Ahh Yes. Pembrokeshire 9 months of winter followed by 3 months of bad weather. Having done this leg a few times you have brought back some pleasant memories. Great channel and thank you.

Thanks Nick! Yes, we're getting weather on the Iridium GO. We get the whole package from PredictWind and cancel the subscription when we're coastal.

@@theoddvoyage How do you find it is it pretty accurate or way off ?
@theoddvoyage4 ай бұрын
It's as good as anything else. Really it's dependent on the underlying weather model, so the same for everyone. Those models really are remarkable pieces of science though, but as the atmosphere is a chaotic system there's always surprises in store

Lovely video, really enjoying it (I’ve just arrived Bangor), got to ask where did your blinds?

Over the portholes? Those are "Dometic Oceanair Portshade" blinds

Another great video, thank you, Captain. Did you ever sort out the squeak, was it a mouse? 🧐

It was the upper nylon bearing of the rudder shaft. No idea why, and there's no play in it. I sprayed it with silicone and it stopped

Brilliant !! I love solo sailing once in a while. How do you deal with insurance? I’m with GJW and like lots of others they have a flat 18hr rule. Next year that won’t work for me, may have to ‘self insure’ for the odd longer solo passage.. Any pointers? Cheers Jonathan
@theoddvoyage4 ай бұрын
TBH, I don’t understand insurance at all and I don’t think I can better all the forum chat. But my suggestion would be to talk to a human at GJW first and explain precisely what you’re trying to do. I’ve used Topsail in the same way, and it was important to get across all the details and let a human there do the legwork to find someone out there who will underwrite your specific plan. They needed to know everything including my shoe size. It’s expensive, but their time doing the legwork for you is worth the price. Be prepared to be denied without knowing how to fix it, but I have had more luck explaining a specific plan (I want to do X) rather than an aspiration (I wish to single-hand for a year). Craftinsure do 24 hours, which may give you the extra margin you need. Equally plausibly, try Bishop Skinner or Basic Boat or others for third-party only (aka liability insurance), if you can live with the potential loss of your own boat. I guess the thing we all want to guard against is causing damage to someone else and not being able to make them whole again.
