I'm a tenant. A really good one. My experience with landlords is that most of them shouldn't be. I've lived with landlords who are alcoholic, diagnosed bipolar, liars, thiefs. No more. They want someone to pay for their house while treating the tenants poorly. This lady is an example of an entitled person. I'll bet that she kept the deposit of the tenant that moved out so she didn't really lose anything. Bad landlords create bad tenants.

You might want to look at your anger and resentment. Landlords take great risks having tenants and it's not common for all tenants to think they are being taken advantage of, like you. A landlord has the cost of insurance, taxes, liability having someone in their home who could sue them for twisting their ankle on a step..... I have been a landlord for 24 years. My tenants can't afford to buy a home, or couldn't at the time. Many went on to buy their own homes. I have had tenants stay for more than a decade and they love and appreciate my house like it's their own. I'm sorry you feel so unhappy. Maybe 2025 will be a better year for you!

I fell into a circumstance at age 65+ that ended up being the best thing ever. My aunt asked me to housesit for her for several months and I got to be friends with the 98 year old (!) man next door. He still had all his marbles and was physically active but going blind and really needed someone to drive for him, cook, find things he'd lost and read his mail for him; just everyday things that came up all the time. When my aunt returned he asked me to move in with him; he lived another almost 4 years and the money I saved on housing in that time enabled me to buy a modest house, free and clear. The need is great for senior care positions and if the personalities mesh it can be a joy.

My Mother was dying from cancer in 2014. One day I was at work when my brother called me and told me she had stopped breathing. I asked my boss if I could leave early (I had finished my major duties that had to be done, the other duties I could finish at a later date) and she said "of course." My mother recovered, hospice was called etc and she lived for another 3 weeks. The next day after I had left work early, however, my employer called me into her office and said to me "I'm letting you go but you can come back after things calm down" My mouth dropped open. I said "what?! You mean when she passes away?" I was just really in disbelief of what was happening, denial that my Mom was dying even. Just all of it. My boss lied to me, it wasn't okay to leave, obviously. I still to this day feel like it was all a bad dream, a crazy nightmare. I was so confused, mentallyexhausted. Of course my Mother was my priority but I also needed my job. I've always worked hard, always above and beyond and even came in on my days off to cover other employee shifts because they called in sick, etc. But that didn't matter. Everyone at that time was replaceable. I was told it was okay to leave early and then the very next day I was let go. Two months later the business shut down. She was obviously having hardships at the time. But so much grief and I was also shocked from losing my job I couldn't think straight. Some people should NOT be managers, supervisors or directors. Completely heartless. Life happens. And death. RIP Mom, I miss you every day. ❤

Just want to add from experience as a divorced person who also wanted to keep my family home in Cali and took on a renter: tenants have a lot of rights, no matter what agreements or contracts you have them sign, and simply "voting them off the island" isn't so easy if they don't go willingly. Having to evict a roommate is a costly, messy, ugly process. Love this channel, and I'd subscribe to Bridgette's channel, too. Edited to add: the "liberals vs. landlords" comments going on underneath my comment are making me regret my post. This video is about ways for seniors to consider making ends meet. Tenants need rights, too. I did not mean to imply otherwise. Just wanted to add a perspective to hopefully help keep seniors safe. Peace, love, and light to all on this journey.

In California, landlords have virtually no rights. Tenants have all the rights. The state has become exceedingly landlord-hostile. I owned an apartment complex in Glendale, Calif. The expenses and liability kept increasing, while the profit kept decreasing. Then Gov. Newsom made it the law that tenants didn't have to pay any rent during the COVID lockdown and for one year after the lockdown was lifted. Meanwhile, I still had to pay taxes, insurance, utilities, maintenance, and repairs. That was the final straw. I sold the apartment complex exactly one year ago and purchased commercial and office rental properties in a state that isn't anti-landlord, lifting a huge burden off my shoulders.

I commented on my iPad but I don't see it here on my phone sorry if I'm repeating myself. My husband passed away about two and a half years ago. We have a house together in southern california. My son is living here now as he is separated from his wife.. I have a hard enough time living with him and I love him LOL I don't think I could do the roommate thing but everyone is different. I would probably sell and downsize if he ever moved out he helps pay the finances..

@LifeBetweenTheDash both my sister and mom live in San Diego...Rancho Bernardo and East San Diego.. its a beautiful area but yes...very expensive. My sister in Rancho Bernardo is 60..she shares often that if she were to lose her high paying job she doesn't how she would afford her condo. My mom in east San Diego lives in a run down duplex and pays more than my mortgage... I've been living in the same home for almost 30 years and I wish my mortgage was paid off however we have had to borrow against the equity. I still owe $130,000 on it with a $900 a month mortgage.. people have answers for what they say they think I should do the answer is.. you have to do what works for you.

@@bdoyle061769 I'm in TN; bought a modest house in good condition (2002 built, 3bed, 2 bath on 1/3 acre) with cash from a live-in home health aide/companion situation. My taxes are only $200 a month, and the utilities are reasonable. Total housing expenses under $500 a month. I have a roommate, an old friend who is a joy to live with; our personalities are much alike (introvert, an hour a day of talking is all either of us can handle) and the rent he gives me pays for the utilities and insurance. I've lived in San Diego and know the appeal but there are plenty of cheaper places in the states. No worries here about wildfires, drought, earthquakes or landslides, either. On the Cumberland Plateau at 2000 ft elevation and so floods aren't an issue either. It pays to do research, haunt Zillow and see what's available.

I also live in an expensive area and had roommates live in my 2nd bedroom downstairs with a very casual 1 page agreement. Then I had someone who said that their apartment house had burned down and just needed a place for 2 months, and when i said that I could not get it ready in time, she said she would help me. I let her move in with out checking references because I was leaving that day on a trip. I had to evict her - she had lied about everything. It took me 6 more months (unpaid) to get her out, and the lawyer wrote it up that I was taking it off the rental market and now I cannot afford to live here by myself. Fire insurance had been almost $10,000 per year, I got it down to $4500, but it can still go up every year. I am still working at age 75, part time to pay all of the bills. I am going to have to sell and move into a van in order to retire. It seems that there are people out there who prey on older people to rip them off. You really need to get the background checks and credit references before you let someone move in. Sad to have to leave my home of 40 years.

I have been alone most of my life and when I had the opportunity and was financially secure, I bought land in the rurals of NM, had a small house built and moved there. Unfortunately bad decisions and circumstances destroyed both my financial security and my physical integrity by breaking leg and ankle. However, after 6 months in Nursing home, I fought my way out and came back to home. I couldn’t walk very well when I arrived but the life style and my dog demanded I walk, bend, carry, and drive. I have greatly improved since returning, have new neighbors who are very helpful, and intend to stay here as long as I can. I’m 77, doing well.

I was always about 20 years older than my roommates. I did consider having a roommate again when I retired, but decided instead to sell my house and move to the city and retirement complex where my brother lived.

She should be very careful about the possibility of a squatter moving in. The law protects them and you cannot get them out. If someone moved in and they became disabled or even pretended to be disabled she could find herself with a permanent resident who doesn’t pay rent and they could make her life miserable. I have seen videos on this and it is very disturbing.

I’ve rented a room for 21 years and lived in two different homes who had another renters. One renter became a threat to my safety. I also had one landlord who became a threat to me. It’s definitely challenging and I always try to avoid people who have other renters. I currently live in a guest house. But I still have to deal with the land lord who is disrespectful. He doesn’t pose a threat to me but he definitely makes life stressful at times. I really can’t afford to move so I tolerate his crap. Preparing for possible full-time van life in the future because if I have to move or my expenses rise I will have no other option that would allow me safe shelter at this time and I don’t see that changing since I have no one to lean on for support if needed. So I am preparing for my future. I’ve thought about a KZbin channel myself but it seems expensive having to purchase equipment needed and also trying to create content interesting enough that doesn’t expose my personal life. You are very kind to offer to help her. I believe sharing is a gift it allows others to relate and learn from each other. Thanks for sharing!

It certainly can be challenging living in someone else's home or on their property. It is wise of you to be planning ahead in case you have to move. As far as being expensive to start a KZbin channel, it really is not. All I use is my cell phone and a small hand held tripod. I also have another taller tripod which I rarely use and neither is expensive. I wdit my videos and do the thumbnails also in my phone.

Bosses act like tyrants like they get of on power tripping and being callous towards people. If you don't let people live normal lives while working for you, people aren't going to want to work. Then they complain they can't find employees, but no one wants to work for a boss who treats them like a slave or a spare part. This lady has a talent for management if she can manage all these male roommates. Maybe she should have hired an assistant to stir and pack the candy while she just oversaw the operation. It is a shame when people retire out of their profession and leave no one to take their place. At least she is still fighting to keep her place and not giving in to the high cost of living.
