Sounds crazy but I’d venture folks would really appreciate seeing ‘their’ knife getting made. Just take images repeatedly along the assembly line, then compile a few at the end like they do with amusement park rides.

In work our dmg mori came with the coolant gun magnet combo. It works really well but after 2 years the paint is starting to rub off where the magnet is removed and replaced, I would advise painting a steel plate kern red as a protector.
@nraynaud3 жыл бұрын
about the magnets: if you want to stick against a plate, the magnet should be potted in steel, that brings both north and south with high "conduction" to the plate. Right now the back pole has to come back in random materials like plastic, air, etc. Another consideration is that sometimes the steel plate you want to stick to is too thin, and it can't conduct enough magnetic magic pixies across the poles and the rest have to fly in the air (inside the machine this time) and it's not efficient.

For barbed hose fittings I warm up the hose end a little with a heat gun. The hose fits with little effort. When the hose cools, it forms to the barbs.
@JasonGrammenos3 жыл бұрын
So if your washdown hose comes from your pre mixed coolant supply does that not mean there is some risk that you could wash down a machine enough to over fill it with coolant? Would it not be more desirable to have the wash down come from the machines coolant tank, which means you are only re circulating the coolant already in the machine? Then the pre mixed supply is only used for top up and concentration adjustments.

Hey John! I’ve used lens profile endmills for contouring similar contoured surfaces on our DMU65 and it’s so much faster than a ball and leaves beautiful finishes especially when tipping the tool over at 3-5 degrees.

Yeah, any one of the circle segment tool forms would be better since he's using a 5 axis machine. A tapered EM would probably be best.

I've found leaving the machines powered up even in power stop mode when they are not being used bumps my electricity bill up quite considerably! So I power them down now when they are not running parts.

regarding the Okamoto paperfilter problem: i used to work on a maschine with a similar paper filter and had the same problem. We used to bump up the feeding speed on the paper roll to avoid the paper getting clogged up and the dirty coolant would just run over the filter down the side back in to the tank. if possible maybe give it a try

Hi John, we created a custom m code on our mills to send spindle to safe position during pallet change or rotations. Easier and faster to type vs. absolute positions. Keep up the good work.

Hi John, Yep, I have both the Dewalt 12 volt drill and the Dewalt 12 volt impact wrench and love them. They are very handy and lighter than the 18 volt monsters. Really enjoyed the video and appreciate you bringing me along on your journey in PRECISION knife making. It has been a long journey from your Tormach days in the garage at home. Ha Ha. You and Eric are the KNIFE GUYS!!!!!! Glad to see that you have added other HIGHLY MOTIVATED employees along your journey. Wish you the best for 2021 and the years to come. Get some sleep. Ha Ha John

I Think you could benefit from version control your CNC code, so you not only have your code on the Kern in case of fire in the workshop. It also gives your better compare options and easier rollback and description for each version. Take a look at GIT and it's easy to use in cooperation with source tree.

Hi, I really like to see your excitement and passion when you talk about your work and your machines, I've been following you for some time it's really fun to see your vlogs, keep up the good work and just try to do some more vlogs about the kern, I started to see you doing the first tombstone for the RASK but couldn't find the rest of the process video, have fun and stay safe
@adammcneil15453 жыл бұрын
Not sure if the kern has through spinal air, but if so it would be really cool to add a sub program that blows off your pallets before swapping them out! Just chuck up a pipe as easy as that.
@zviper3 жыл бұрын
John I would just make a hook with the magnet, so you don't have to yank it off the pallet changer. aslo you wont be banging the coolant nozzle on the side when you put it away.

Remember when I caught one of your video back when you were just a kid and running benchtops. And by accident stomped on that recommended video to find you're now running a decent shop with production machine-tools. And That's Awesome!!! Side note You kinda look much older than you should though, working way too hard perhaps... keep the health priority man and good luck. Great vid btw!

To get the best fit up on barbed fittings, try soaking the end of the hose in a container of near boiling water and force in on wearing rubber gloves. ✌

For the tool chipping why not use a bullnose endmill or an endmill with a large corner radius? Does a radius in the bottom of the bore change the function of the bore?
@databoy20103 жыл бұрын
Why are you keeping the Kern filters in a wooden box? get someone to weld and paint a steel stand that would look a lot nicer than some random cart and as a bonus you could add an upright just to hold your gauges. Also, consider color coding your filters and bags so that you only maintain an inventory in one spot. You could use colored electrical tape or colored dots etc.

The finishes of the handles are spectacular! I’m sure you could get a similar result with the blades and the process might be a bit less complex then grinding 👍🏼

Man love the kern . Love the.. work life vs home life honesty. I have a question, is the kern controller Linux based? Windows? I can't imagine they invented their own operating system.. mentioning finding the graphic file.. Nerds need to know! I love the fact you bought a machine above your knowledge level. Knowing full well you will be challenged, and will learn. Edit: Also.. that kern. Those rapids. That tolerance. So sick. Well done sir Double edit: you know how you comment before watching the whole vid? Yeah.. can you get kern with different control interfaces? Or rather, if you prefer one interface/controller can you swap it out

Torque wrenches are typically calibrated with your hand on the end of the handle. So for what you're doing as long as you (and your operators) always hold it the same way you're getting that consistency. But if you needed to hit an actual number you'd want to hold it by the end of the handle otherwise you're changing the length of the level. Then you'll want to make sure all your operators use the wrench the same way to maximize your benefit of using one.
@xenonram3 жыл бұрын
Torque is torque is torque. The wrench has no idea where your holding it. It's measuring torque, and you holding it at different lengths just changes the force you need to apply to achieve that torque..
@patrickmartinez32173 жыл бұрын
@@xenonram I agree, I did not think that where and how you hold a torque wrench changed the value of the torque you are putting to the part. We have torque wrenches calibrated through calibration services and they never ask us where and how to hold the torque wrench. I am not sure what this guy is talking about.
@stuarthardy46263 жыл бұрын
@@patrickmartinez3217 I think he is referring to the human torque setting FT
@willej783 жыл бұрын
@@xenonram That's simply not true; shorter lever = more torque applied before the wrench clicks. Experiment with a wrench and a torque analyzer and you'll see that the torque reading will be higher if you hold the tool closer to the head. I've had to show lots of very clever people this for them to believe it.
@nimernimer3 жыл бұрын
Correct. The difference between accuracy and precision. Use the Handle designed into the torque wrench to achieve both.
