Great video. I have the same stove but I have the MSR Titan kettle that I keep it in. The pot is a little smaller than the Solo pot but they work well together.......Take care, Bluefin.

I got a knock-off of the stove, and fuel means a big difference on boil times. Little chunks of dry hardwood work really well. Thank you for the video

Cool...I have the knock off too but it's a bigger model than this one, did a review on it a few months back...great stove. I think bigger pieces of hard wood would definitely help. This small ones wood holding chamber is very small compared to the knock off stove. Thanks for watching 👍

Nice review, I just ordered the same combo. If you draw the ferro rod back towards you, and hold the striker steady, lot less likely to knock over your tinder.

what are you using as a neck knife? It is a great little stove and very nice pot. Does your Emberlit stove fit into the pot and nest well
@highlandtrekker
@highlandtrekker 7 жыл бұрын
The neck knife is an inexpensive Uncle Henry full tang skinning/caping knife, great little food prepping knife. Ya I really like the Solo 900 pot, great size for 1 to 2 people and it can also be used as your cup and the stove nests right in it....pretty cool little kit ! Thanks for watching and commenting Wheels 👍

I thought that neck knife looked familiar. I have been using that exact model myself. Love it for small tasks and is so light weight. Would it be the model 301UH? Does the Emberlit stove fit into that 900 ml pot?
@highlandtrekker
@highlandtrekker 7 жыл бұрын
+Wheels gone Wild ya that's the model #... The emberlit folds flat so it won't fit inside. I sometimes still bring the pot on its own and put whatever I'll be eating in it, makes for a great extra cooking pot ! All I did to the knife was sharpen the spine a little, and I can't believe how well it makes small feather sticks !!. For the price you can't go wrong 👍

I got that knife a few months ago and it takes a wonderful edge. I have not used it long enough to see how well the edge lasts but is such a little sweetie that I just can't put it down.

That's -7.6 Fahrenheit . . . how can you stand it out there doing a demo on your kit when its that cold?!? You're a better man than I am. Btw, great combo. I have both of them myself, but I haven't used the stove yet, just the pot . . . to make tea and stuff at my house. I appreciate people like you who are willing to out in the real world and show me how they work. Thanks, my friend..

Another great watch and listen. A great stove and pot. Which of the two stoves, the Solo or Lixada would you choose over the other if you had too? You have a new subscriber. Thank you for sharing. Happy wandering. Paul :)

To be completely honest I would choose the knock off...and the only reason would be that it can handle bigger fuel therefore not as much feeding. That being said I have not tried the Swedish torch method in small solo stove, which apparently does increase the burn time by quite a bit. Thank you so much for the sub !!! 👍

Nice one :) 8 mins is nothing. I know people like to time till it boils (myself included :)) But really your out in the bush. If it takes 5-20 mins who cares. Where else do you have to be hahahaha. Just thinking -22 C in Canada and we had 40 C here in my part of Australia the other day. Over 60 degrees difference just thought that was pretty cool or hot hahahaha. Anyway take care. Enjoying the video's. Craig :)

I agree but a lot of people want performance but I just enjoy the whole process of gathering the wood, processing it and tending it. -22 to +40..WOW

I've been looking forward to your review of this combo. I like the size of the Solo pot. How would you compare the stove against your other wood gas stove
@highlandtrekker
@highlandtrekker 7 жыл бұрын
It works as efficiently as the other gasifier stove and nests perfectly into the cup/pot, makes for a really nice combo. I like the pot as well, it's a perfect size for 1 or 2 people, I've seen people use the stove with a smaller version of the Swedish torch and it did seem to burn longer. It does take a lot of feeding due to its efficiency, burns really fast. All in all a good little stove, but I think my emberlit burns much hotter size for size.

Im having a hard time deciding between Solo stove/pot and the Firebox. Having used both, which would you recommend and why? Thank you
@highlandtrekker
@highlandtrekker 7 жыл бұрын
The pro's for the Solo stove are it burns very efficiently, is light weight and is fairly compact...the cons are that due to the size of the burning chamber you are better off using smaller sticks which demands a lot more feeding. The pro's of the firebox are that you can cook in many different ways, check out the web site for more details. You can use much bigger wood creating much more heat and some what less feeding and the con which seems to be agreed by most people is the weight. So really it comes down to a personal choice and that for most is are you trying to go light weight or not. Another big plus with the Solo stove is that you can buy the nesting pot with it and will still be way lighter than the Firebox. I hope this helped !
