I go camping with a £200 survival tin that has over 25 items in it. This is the most expensive survival kit I have used so far. I want to test out the items inside and see whether it is worth the price for what you get.

Always better to assemble your own kit. A fraction of the price and more applicable to your environment / needs. It only takes a little research and no wasted / unneeded items. Appreciate you showing us what is available for someone who doesn't want to.

Another great video, Mike! The only problem I have with this kit is the lack of any first-aid supplies. For £200 you'd think they'd throw in a couple band-aids or some Bactine or somethin'.

Fresnel (the lens) is pronounced “fray-null” according to the book i got that taught me about them as a kid. The reamer tool (leather punch) has a hole for a thin cord and you thread the cordage through and you can use it to stitch leather bits together without having to fight with a needle in leather. Great vid! Thanks for all the testing

Great video Mike, I bought the tin empty and pieced it together with what works best in my area ( gulf coast ms) and have four Esee knives!! I also work for a shop that sells the Esee brand knives and to me they have the best warranty!! Yes they are very pricey but you get what you pay for!!! Keep up the great videos and I'll keep watching!!

Personally I would , and have put together before , a Survival Pouch according to John " Lofty " Wiseman from his " SAS Survival Handbook . You could use some of the elements of your ESEE Mess Tin . Mr. Wiseman included electrolytes , a brew kit , dried meat like jerky , and instead of using lard or ghee , like he did , I would use coconut oil . He also packed signal flares and chocolate . I found it to be a fun challenge to try and include all the items of his kit into a mess tin . I really like your channel keep up the good work ! ! !

In France, they used to use Sodium Lighting with ORANGE glow as it was said to be the best for drivers due to the fact that human eyes adapt to that orange glow the best. It was was also said to be the best to grow WEED, which explains many disappearances...

Not sure about the green light but I've heard many times that red light won't break your eye adaptation to see in the dark while regular light would and you would have to spend time to adapt to darkness again.

Hey Mike. What it is with red light is, it doesn't take away your night vision. Night vision is mainly monochrome and a red light doesn't stimulate the same receptors in your eye.

A big advantage of the green light is that our eyes are most sensitive to green, so at a given power level it'll look brighter than any other colour. (Or it'll be as bright and use less power!)

My pack survival kit has always been in 2 army mess tins its a no brainer. I have variations on what goes in it depending on the terrain and weather. I also have a small bull brand baccy from poundland for fishing kit, sowing kit and asprin, paracetomol and ibuprofen sealed with waterproof tape used for temporary plumming fixes (a game changer, its awesome stuff) my pocket kit is full sized baccy tin that can be used as a boiling pot aswell. Fits in most field dressing pocket in army issue jackets/smocks if it aint on you it aint gonna help in dire survival situations .. i put ALOT of survival kit in jacket seams aswell.

Honestly, this looks like an almost perfect tin to give to someone who has maybe done a weekend bushcraft course for use in emergencies. It requires a little bit of knowledge that I don't know if it's included on the various cards (for example, fishing without a rod, and setting up shelter), but with a small amount of knowledge you could probably keep a small family alive (if not too comfortable) for a decent amount of time with this. An expert could create their own kit that's just as good for less money overall, but that's not really the intended target of a tin like this.

I LIKE this series but I am also looking forward to the mix of subjects you have in store. With this kit, you ARE talking serious money. We could 'grab and go' with this but we probably have even better stuff in a drawer or closet. Maybe this is for the family that suddenly hears bad times are coming and unexpectedly needs to head for field and stream.

All great stuff a very comprehensive kit I made a similar one many many years ago from my mess tins but it had some hard tack biscuits in it, but I agree some medical items such as iodine maybe could have been good but I’d say maybe £180 is about where I ld want it priced

I do, indeed, remember McQ Bushcraft: I was a regular viewer right up to the end, even as he relocated to Sweden. As for the survival kit in a mess, that’s actually been pretty standard issue for the British military for sometime, which fact is surely what prompted ESEE to market this item.

That's a very proper kit, although there was a bit of content duplication (the neck knife, cards, there's already a magnifier on the çompass, ...). I'd have liked to have seen at least a basic shelter diagram, and a slightly larger mess tin with a 7 ft × 7 ft sil nylon tarp as a emergency shelter, and a life straw water filter.

Less gimmicky stuff in this one than in some of the cheaper ones, which is nice. I do think the inclusion of knives in the survival kit is maybe a waste of money. My thinking is that you should always have something like a Victorinox in your pocket anyway, so why also have a knife in the survival tin? Plus that fixed blade knife they included makes this kit illegal to carry in the UK.

I don't know about the knife, but the sak is most popular and cheap, the items may be quality but most things are few pound items. But there is so much missing also you should make your own survival kits to suit your needs as everyone and areas are different and it's simply satisfying to do your own. I think apart from knife I could make rest for less than £60, just my thoughts love your channel... BatW

I’d expect a Mylar blanket and a thin poncho in the tin as there’s no protection’. In terms of cost, by the time you’ve bought the two knives, the mess tin and the compass you won’t get much change out of £100. Add in £20 for the fishing kit and £20 for the odds and sods, it’s still a bit over priced. That’s not a real Photon it’s a knockoff, or ‘faux-ton’…

£200 survival tin? It better have some fine damn sardines in it... Good set overal, but realisticaly for that amount of money you can get an actual survival kit, which will encompas not only what's in this tin already, but also a sizeable first aid kit, with a mylar blanket. I suspect this product is aimed at people who want to get into survival/bushcraft, and not those who have had their kidneys already blastedy by icy winds.
