I go camping with a £200 survival tin that has over 25 items in it. This is the most expensive survival kit I have used so far. I want to test out the items inside and see whether it is worth the price for what you get.

Agreed. This is a rich boy's kit. My entire camping kit probably cost me less than £200 A £60 knife that will give you blisters faster than you can say 'feather stick.' I fail to see where any of these so called survival kits would be of any use.

I like chilling at night with the green lights on! Easy on the eyes and quite relaxing! 🎉 Love my new little cabin in the woods, out on the corner of our property. Just tucked away enough in the woods where its peaceful and relaxing! 😎 So far the only wildlife ive seen is rabbits, chips, and squirrels!😂😂 It will be my 3rd night out in the woods, i think i just might stay out here for a while!😂😂 Got a spot to mount the phone and speaker, got a lil buddy heater, led lights and lanterns, plenty of flashlights! Now i just sit and think of how i can improve my situation!! 😂 Survival is just a game at this point!! I want to test out all my gear and see what works for me and what doesnt! Ordered a Kukri blade from amazon, thatll be awesome in processing all the firewood, big and small! 🔥 So far everything is all well, little cramped at times, but im making shelving for all the odd crap laying around!😂 Need a better sleeping pad!😂 Figure out where im gonna put a permanent stove would be nice!! 👍 Get working on sealing the roof better, its a little drafty when the wind picks up!!😂😂 Anyways, cool video and ill be watching all your future videos from my tiny cabin in the woods!🎉 🪓 With the green lights on no doubt!! 💚 😂

Personally I would , and have put together before , a Survival Pouch according to John " Lofty " Wiseman from his " SAS Survival Handbook . You could use some of the elements of your ESEE Mess Tin . Mr. Wiseman included electrolytes , a brew kit , dried meat like jerky , and instead of using lard or ghee , like he did , I would use coconut oil . He also packed signal flares and chocolate . I found it to be a fun challenge to try and include all the items of his kit into a mess tin . I really like your channel keep up the good work ! ! !

Re. Flares - I couldn’t help laughing when I saw the evasion card in this kit - yeah, not being found when in a survival situation is exactly the opposite of what you want and tell me everything I need to know about people who buy these kits. They don’t want a little tin to keep in the bottom of their bag whilst outdoors just in case, they are LARPers (Live Action Role Players) but instead of wearing elf ears and medieval clothes pretending to be on epic adventures, they wear camo and pretend they are in a combat zone. I remember quite distinctly passing the fattest tub of lard crouched in a bush, wearing camo face paint and wearing a backpack covered in little military-ish patches and pouches of no doubt, this sort of stuff in this kit. We said hello and he ran away!

Bit of a baffler - quality swiss army knife but a American orientated bass ( predatory ) fishing kit for the UK market ?. Like the multifunction trip line but no plasters or a bandage in there ! . Like the purification tablets and the matches . Don't like the knife , rather have an Opinel #6 or #8 for the longer blade and more glove wearing friendly handle . Ferro rod seems quality . Really like ( and i make my own ) the waxed jute , just i use it in a copper tube like a match / candle . Not sure about the snare wire as i fit brass eyes to let the snare slide as find plain wire can bend and snag instead of tightening And weirdly it dosn't have a wire saw , not super good but they are useful , especially for cutting a fishing pole etc . ( where a longer bladed knife lets you batton off the side branches without hitting your hand with the batton ) At £200 i would have expected a manual chainsaw style instead of the wire saw but there's neither ?. Suppose the marker tape could be used to wrap a piece of cut shirt over a wound , but a bandage would be better . And i'd be laying a micro fibre cloth in the bottom and placing the contents in over it so there's a cloth for cleaning / drying . And the addition of a chapstick would be nice , start a fire then cover a burn or use it on your lips in the winter . But it's ok though pricy as the contents swing from quality to cheap making it difficult to make up your mind ..

if i remember correctly is that: its not how bright a light is that can trouble your night sight or get spotted but it is the color spectrum and i think the red is the best one to preserve night sight and harder to get spotted :D Great kitt :D Nice stove you have too. i have the smal bcb stove type with firedragon(i think its called) to fire it up its sort of alcohol gel type so it can even be used for cleanign wounds too hehe and i have bcb survival kit with me always, bcb suvival kit is smal but its great for the price :D but your kit there did looks really good and if/when the cleaning tabs goes out of date you can buy new ones and put it in same bottle :D

Not sure about the green light but I've heard many times that red light won't break your eye adaptation to see in the dark while regular light would and you would have to spend time to adapt to darkness again.

The human eye is most sensitive to green, so the green light is an OK idea since you'll get the best bang for buck out of that tiny battery. Only problem is color rendition when reading maps - green lines will be very faint, some other colors may appear black. For a survival kit, I think white is the better choice.

Great video Mike thanks for sharing. The use of a mess tin is however not new and is mentioned in the SAS survival handbook by John Lofty Wiseman.

Hey Mike. What it is with red light is, it doesn't take away your night vision. Night vision is mainly monochrome and a red light doesn't stimulate the same receptors in your eye.

I LIKE this series but I am also looking forward to the mix of subjects you have in store. With this kit, you ARE talking serious money. We could 'grab and go' with this but we probably have even better stuff in a drawer or closet. Maybe this is for the family that suddenly hears bad times are coming and unexpectedly needs to head for field and stream.

Personally my preferred Swiss Army Knife is the Huntsman. I have always regarded the Philips screwdriver that is swapped out for the corkscrew a bit "not very good" (substitute your own one word replacement). The Huntsman has the same tools plus a pairs of scissors. I know the cordage can be cut with one of the blades but I still think the scissors helps improve the usefulness of the Huntsman over the Hiker (the included model). As I always pack a bottle of wine in my rucksack I am always prepared in the event of needing an emergency drink of Châteauneuf-du-Pape by using the corkscrew to open the bottle. Please excuse the fact that I use an enamelled mug to drink it but carrying a lead crystal glass means it's likely to get smashed.

I used to love watching MCQ Bushcraft! I'd say TA, MCQ, Haze and Simon a bloke in the woods are my OG bushcraft youtubers. Also Alfie aesthetics who had an amazing channel.

For the knife, you could also have used some of the cordage to wrap a handle or at least bulk it up a little bit to make use a little more comfy

This series as great Mike. Would never pay that amount for a survival kit though. I tend to carry most that I feel I need about my person any way. Yes I have a small tin with the small bit's in it in a pocket. Great tip don't cook on pine good info for all is that.

I have a photon but have stopped using it, because you need the skills of a jeweller to change the batteries. And the button never works properly again. I much prefer cooking on an open fire, which is easier to feed and to cook with. The Esee kit is over priced because of the two knives. An ex army mess tin with a cheaper knife would be a better option. Good video. I will watch more. Well done.

As well as less harsh on your eyes, the green light helps with reading maps too I think. If you use red light you can’t see the all the lines

Honestly, this looks like an almost perfect tin to give to someone who has maybe done a weekend bushcraft course for use in emergencies. It requires a little bit of knowledge that I don't know if it's included on the various cards (for example, fishing without a rod, and setting up shelter), but with a small amount of knowledge you could probably keep a small family alive (if not too comfortable) for a decent amount of time with this. An expert could create their own kit that's just as good for less money overall, but that's not really the intended target of a tin like this.

Love the series on the survival kits. The £200 kit was very good, but do you think you could make your own survival kit using similar items at a lower cost? Perhaps you could make your own TA outdoors survival kit.

Hi Mike, There's a Survival kit that you didn't test yet that I think, in my opinion , it is the best in Gear and in Price: the "SOL Scout Survival Kit". It carries only Life-Saving Gears -No Frills and no useless items. Something to look into for the next video. All my outdoor packs has one even my belt pouch. Thanks

All the little books and descriptions are definitely a nice touch, although some might need a pair of glasses with them as well. The fontsize seems tiny. Also, I'd lose half of the cards if they're not packed together probably. A booklet (like the one where they're attacked together like a swivel) would seem better imo.
