Hi Tony, Yes the plastic cap thing is relatively new - last 12 -18 months or so. I believe it's to stop the caps a) from becoming litter and b) being discarded separately to the bottles as the both are recyclable. 😊

The blue in that ball is gorgeous and made that scene even more spectacular. You have an eye!! When I was in Italy a few months ago all their bottles were like that. It was mandatory by law and was to reduce littering.
