Totally agree with your review of the Chef Paul's on crappie. I do it that way sometimes and it is delicious but the crappie doesn't firm up like a lot of the saltwater fish do. Can't wait for round 3!

That was awesome! I like your camping adventures. The lake looked nice, didn't see no traffic to get in your way when trolling and the weather was perfect for you. Great job. Wish the weather up here in SC would improve so I can get out on the lake.

Been a long time since i crappie fished. Might just have to get some shiners and give it a go in about a month or so.

JC I can’t believe a lake of that caliber for fishing would be that empty.

I've never dedicated time trolling for crappie. I'd throw out a few lines and troll to where I'm headed to but that's it. If I caught one on the way I'd go back to that spot and fan cast all around and/or jig. There's more around even if they are not schooled up tight, the others won't be to far away and more often than not you'll get on them pretty quick. Those Roadrunners are good for searching large areas quickly. As Ol Richard Gene says, always follow the bait and you'll find them. Crappie are finicky, they could be on fire at 2ft and in 10 min shut off only to have moved deeper or off to a different area sometimes not far away. An sometimes yeah, they don't want anything unless you dangle it right in front of them. I can't remember,do you have a fish finder? I just have a older Garmin Striker Plus7SV that I swap from Yak to boat. The SV lets you scan a wide area instead of having to boat over so much water looking for structure and/or the bait and it doesn't have to the most up to date or biggest model to see all the more you need to. Can't wait till March or mid March once it starts warming up a lil more up here in the ol Commiewealth of PA to get out there and load up on more B/W Crappie,White Bass,Rockbass (my favorite tasting fish),Bluegill,Yellow Perch,Walleye, etc. Also need to stock up on bait for Catfish, so the Fallfish should be starting to come around here in the next couple weeks. Then about beginning/mid April the Striper will start running. I used to just cut the heads an tails off and gut all my panfish and cook them in butter. Then use a fork to peal the skin and scales away. A buddy and his wife prefers them to be filleted so I just give them all to him any more instead as we have a fish fry once we have a slew of them an invite a bunch of friends. Up here our limit is 50 ea and no size, but I don't keep Crappie less than 11in.

Also,if you want the best bait for 99% of freshwater fish (don't know how well they are for saltwater species) there is it looks like cicada's are going to be emerging in FL in 2027. If it's on the water more than 10 - 15 seconds move to another spot as there's no fish there.
