I've camped in a similar way a few times and the best lesson I've learned is to get some moss smoldering and producing smoke, then place it under the logs around the spot you'll be sleeping in for a few hours before dark or while you're constructing the rest of the shelter. The smoke will drive away most insects & spiders near the surface of the fallen tree that would bother you while you sleep

i love the idea, but the bugs are still there, they just go where the smoke can't, and thank whatever giant came along to provide this warmth. if you go back the next year to the same spot, there will be little shrines and statues made in your honor, also keep an eye out for a pit of sacrifice as well, as that will, in most instances, become a thing.

The idea of self reliance and survival in the wild, living off the land, is very romantic. There is not too much of the all natural hunter gathering here but hey that's not the point, the point is get out do something wild, and bring what you want to be fed and rested after a night out and not travelling too far. For those trekkers out there , please note that the aluminium foil trees are mostly found in the bakery section of the forest, ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,have fun.

So clever how he create a home! This are useful ideas in case somone get lost in the forest. That idea of accomodating yourself in the forest has crossed my mind in my childhood with so many hollow old trees as my grandparents used have a piece of land with native forests of native trees and I was always roaming around alone but I never got lost. I used to climb very tall trees in order to see where the cabin was in order to find the cabin. That forest is a man made forest as all the trees are the same species. You don't see old trees, young trees and different kind of trees. The floor in native forests are full of leaves etc and about one meter or more in depth as I used to make myself invisible if I heard something unusual.

Great to see that someone can replicate someone else’s technique. It really shows how KZbin can teach people things. That’s what I get from the whole situation, I’d be happy as hell if I put out a video and someone made a video showing me that they learned something that I did.

Would you still feel the same way if they did exactly what you did to a T, a few days later, making money, put more commercials in, and pass it off as a completely original idea? All while not giving you an honorable mention as an inspiration? He even admitted in a comment that he learned this directly from Corporals Corner. He can do whatever he wants, I just think its impolite and disrespectful. Imo.
@ComeOutOfHerMyPeople
@ComeOutOfHerMyPeople 3 жыл бұрын
@@daisy671 CC has adverts in their video. I don't see what the problem is. What is it that you're expecting here? For a cut to be sent to CC for intellectual property? Does CC own the copyright on earth shelters? The entire POINT of these channels is to inspire people to get outside. I literally watch 6 different camping / bushcrafting channels and they do a lot of the same content, and noone appears to care. He proudly acknowledged that CC inspired him to get out and build this shelter, and he's being criticised because he didn't acknowledge that whilst he did ALL the work, and made a kickass shelter BY HIMSELF, the idea wasn't original? Have we become that triggered?
@daisy671
@daisy671 3 жыл бұрын
@@ComeOutOfHerMyPeople Geez... is it so complicated to give a nod to the channel that was admittedly his inspiration? That's it.... that's it.. Would he have made this video without that video?? Just a simple 2 second acknowledgment would have been huge. Imitation is the greatest form of flattery. Copy everyone on KZbin, who cares. Cash a check on other people's creativity. I don't care, but do all that while Not acknowledging your inspirations, well than it becomes a question of honor.

I think that the way the world is falling apart today, if I built a shelter like this, I would learn all that I could on surviving on what nature itself could provide for my nurishment, plants, berries, fish and etc. And just move in permanently. I have no problem living alone because I'm basically doing that now since I lost my wife to cancer. My family has basically written me off as a memory also , so this would be fine for me. I'm 77 years old, so I don't imagine I would be doing it for too long.

The list of equipment continued to grow as the story unfolded, 2 axes, shovel, couple serving boards, hotplate, water, sleeping bag, food, foil, gloves, fatwood, head torch, camp light and a couple candles - I'm sure I missed some things but a lot to carry in for a "simple" camp that you then have to build. Maybe I'm just getting old. Thanks for an entertaining video.

@@aoszkar honestly I'm not sure cause I'm no expert by any means where I live in the hot south west that would be a terrible idea cause that's where most of all those critters like to be. In his case I'm not sure but he has a sweater so it might be cold enough that they ain't coming out
