So true, you learn what works and what does not work with every trip out. It's always a learning experience, no matter how many times you've done it. Peace.

the higher in freq you go the less the nvis effect, as long as the MUF is high it can be done, One of the most effective antennas for NVIS is a dipole positioned from .1 to .25 wavelengths above ground. K3MT did a great article on a grasswire antenna, just lay it on the ground, nvis will give a range of a couple of hundred miles, beyond line of sight, for dx put this in the youtube search bar aLgFeTpIX4A a 9ft whip with wide bandwidth that can be made out of speaker wire. hope it helps

Great video. I've bought a Dutch army bivi last weekend. It was second hand but never used before. I've shown it in one of my last videos but never slept in it. Looking forward to do so during my next overnighter. Your experience makes me believe that it's one of the best things I ever bought. Take care mate Mahdi

That reminded me a little of my first Dartmoor trip. We started up a hill and found it a right killer. We decided to stop half way for a breather and an old couple just strolled past us right up the hill, after that I sorted through my kit quite mercilessly and ditched a lot of weight. It always feels better after a brew though. How would you suggest I support the aerial horizontally, bearing in mind I need to carry everything in my backpack ? Thanks for the feedback...

The walk is actually only an hour but with 25Kg, made it HARRRRRRD going. Still enjoyed it though. weather could have been better, especially when you're up in the clouds, everything just gets soaked... Thanks Adam

The dutch army bivi looks great. I was just wondering if you have some sort of solar back up to charge your radio if all the power was down? Cheers Glenn

The weather can always be better mate :), but it can also be a lot worse. If it was hot and sunny, just imagine how much more dehydrated you'd be. Those clouds come in handy at times. The moisture in the air can be gathered, as you know, so good emergency supply of fluids ;)

I thought my Midland Portapak was great until I got a yaesu ft-817, I call it my tardis, about same size as the portapak but the batteries fit inside and it does HF, VHF and UHF at 5 Watts too. For contacts in the UK you want to lay that aerial horizontal and take advantage of NVIS, vertical aerials are best for local work and skip work, the only way I would get up that hill is in my 4x4 :0)

well you could lay it along the wall your camped out next to, or you could try an inverted V cut for 27MHz, it would be way better than the one your using, you could ask your foundation tutor about them, good luck if you decide to accept this mission, as you might be able to tell I've been up all night enjoying your videos :0)

Those little green glow in the dark tubes are actually tritium (Hydrogen-3) coated in phosphor. They're slightly radioactive, but nothing to worry about! 73, -CT2181

Awesome video! I like wildcamping and I am trying to get this Dutch Bivy Bag, but they're sold out everywhere or not for reasonable price. But I hope I will get one soon. I will subscribe for your channel! :)
