New to wild camping, been to the lost valley twice this year. Have yet to try camping in the colder weather. Loved the video.

Brilliant nice to have you on board the Wild camping bug. The Lost Valley is such a lovely place and plenty time to experience the colder weather, so many places and spoilt for choice. No need for expensive kit and stick to easier locations until you get more adventurous 👍

....Never has a cup of instant coffee ....looked so? ....well?......Wanted!!!! 👌 Also - the only person out of 7 Billion people, to be there, certainly had me pondering for a while! Thank you for the video - it was a great watch. Cheers🍺

Thanks for the comment, yeah the instant coffee is a bit of a saviour and less packaging and they are actually not bad. I do prefer a cup of tea mind haha. Its a great feeling that places are busy with people and when you get out in to the wild to camp where nobody else is about, it's a nice feeling you have that place to yourself. All the best and thanks again 👍 Steve

Hi Steve, what a cracking camp. You’ve single-handedly made me *really* want to get up to the Lost Valley sometime soon. Hope it’s not too late for camera recommendations… I’m unsure what your photography experience is like, but if you’re looking for something with fantastic picture quality, compact, easy to use, an optical zoom, and a half-decent on-board mic, take a look at the Sony ZV-1. Personally, I’d stay away from GoPros (coming from someone who owns one). They’re great as a supplementary camera, for unique/creative perspectives (due to small size), or when the weather turns bad (they’re fully waterproof)… otherwise, I find GoPros rather run of the mill (used as the main camera by so many KZbinrs), dreadful in low-light, unreliable/buggy, not to mention all the extra accessories GoPro force you to pay separately for. You could look at getting a ‘mirrorless’ camera, which would hands-down provide the very best video quality in a still-somewhat-compact package. This would be the most expensive route, however, as you’re buying into a full system, used by professionals, with multiple interchangeable lenses potentially required-these lenses can easily be more expensive than the camera body itself! If you’re really serious about photography/videography, it’s a worthwhile investment, in my opinion. Should you go down the mirrorless path, I recommend something by Sony or Fujifilm. Sony are making some of the very best mirrorless cameras today, with great image sensors and unbeatable autofocus technology. As for Fujifilm, their cameras are a joy to use (I personally own one) and can produce beautiful colours straight out of camera, with minimal/no post-processing required. Anyhow, hope some of that is useful! All the best.

Hi Jon Thank you for the comments and advice I appreciate all that. Firstly that's a very touching comment that the video has made you want to get out to the Lost Valley it's an amazing place to go and I was lucky to have it to myself. It's a great experience to walk with the views you leave behind as you progress up the gorge. Glad to have inspired you in a way, that's what I do these videos for and please to see this has helped. Amazing info you have given on the camera choice, I use the Sony Cybershot hd camera, its good enough for day to day use and this has got me started in the wold of You Tube footage but I was looking for something new and as you mentioned the Sony ZV1 seems to be a good easy all-round choice. I do see a few other good You Tubers use that camera and looks perfect or as good as I need for now. I am one for trying to be as lightweight as I can so lenses etc may not be so helpful but really goo to see the wide choice of cameras that people use. I will look again into the Sony ZV1 and see if the price has dropped haha Thanks again for all the info for me and hope others see this and is also helpful to them. All the best Jon Steve👍

@@Campingonthewildsidescotland You’re very welcome, Steve. When I finally manage to get up, hopefully I’m as lucky as you in having the Valley all to myself! If lightweight is a priority, a ZV1 would be the way to go. I don’t personally own one, but I’ve always been impressed by the KZbin footage that’s shot on a ZV1; the image quality to compactness ratio is pretty wild. Hope you find a good price! Looking forward to seeing more of your adventures, Steve. All the best. 👍🏼

Thank you for the video - it certainly was a beautiful area, crisp, cold and clear skies. The walk back down that icy slope, it was extremely dangerous, I definitely wouldn't want to have faced that. I think that you should be taking crampons with you for future scenarios, especially if you are away on your own. Enjoying your videos, thank you

Cheers again for the comments, stunning up there, well worth a walk up in the good weather. I got myself micro spikes to help with situations like that. I am not a fully blown winter snow and ice climber as i know my limits. I will leave the hard snow and ice climbing to the professionals. It does show you that small ice patches can be pretty dangerous. Thanks Steve 👍

Lovely video. I've been up there a good few times but never in winter, mostly back in the early '90s. Did some bouldering up there too. I also went up the path at 41:03 up the other side of the middle sister and back down the ridge of the middle sister, very exposed and scary. There's an easy walk up a nice wide ledge on the front of the middle sister.

Fantastic video, what tech did you end up getting to film the stars?
@Campingonthewildsidescotland Жыл бұрын
Thank you, i did explore many deals but, its such an expensive bit of kit to justify. I was looking at the Sony ZV1 vlogging camera, its more lightweight and so easy to use but the battery life is very poor. As it stand i am still no further forward, i may just have to bite the bullet and get something 👍
