Fun video. Looking forward to the next installment. I started my SoloDark campaign on vacation in July and it's going strong. Six PC's have been listed on the roll of honor. What has really surprised me is how actual roleplaying situations occur in the game...dialogue and all. Some of the adventures have been quite exciting; so much so I'm converting one of them to run at Gary Con.

I love how the rules include a weather table. I'm using this in all games now. It makes such a big change to encounters and exploration if it's raining, or if it's stinking hot. Want to push a brisk pace? Good luck in scorching heat! Want to avoid being tracked? That's hard with all of this mud you are churning in your wake. Also, I swear your dice are cursed. Torson's mishap last session and then you rolled a 100mi journey with little food this session. :P

Wanted to ask about how you checked for potential change of terrain. Send like you went with one check out day rather than by hex. What's your thinking on that?
@TheArcaneLibrary23 күн бұрын
You can definitely do it hex-by-hex, but I wanted to keep the procedure moving quickly so switched over to checking day-by-day. I also figured the forest was super big due to previous rolls, so it made sense to check a bit less frequently!

Wait, you get your luck token back on a nat 20? How did I not know that? My players will love this!
@TheArcaneLibrary11 күн бұрын
This is a rule specific to SoloDark (since there isn’t a GM to award luck tokens), but you can implement this in normal games! An alternative method is to give a luck token out when a player rolls a natural 1 to make the critical failure suck a bit less. It’s pretty flexible! :)
@BobIrving211 күн бұрын
@@TheArcaneLibrary I give them each a luck token at the beginning of each session but that idea of awarding one when you roll a nat 20 (or 1) is pretty killer. Gonna have to try that next time.

Hello! I am learning to play Shadowdark with my sister and we are having a lot of fun playing the Lost Citadel. I have a question about crawling rounds vs combat rounds. Do combat rounds overlap with crawling rounds? Let's say combat extends for more than 2 rounds and we are in a risky area, do we roll for another random encounter in the middle of combat? Also, when an encounter ends, do the characters that haven't taken their initiative get an action before the combat round ends or does it fast-forward to the next round? By the way, really fun episode. I'm rooting for Lienna and Torson! You've inspired me to try Solo play and I'm loving the Shadowdark random tables.
@TheArcaneLibrary4 сағат бұрын
I’m glad to hear you and your sister are having fun with Lost Citadel! :) Combat rounds and crawling rounds overlap. They are actually the same except for two key differences: 1. You do not roll for random encounter checks during combat rounds. Start the countdown for a random encounter check over once you start crawling rounds again (AKA don’t count combat rounds against the timer). 2. You can regroup during crawling rounds, which is not something you can do during combat rounds. Regrouping allows the characters to move and act as one whole they’re exploring. You can see more about that on pg. 85 of the Core Rules, or in the Crawling section of the QuickStart Guides. I hope that helps. Happy gaming! :)
