People can be so judgmental because they have no life and that’s all they have to do. They’re miserable so they gotta make other people miserable by being assholes.

I travel and live out of my Jeep Wrangler pulling an overland trailer. I am retired. I got to retirement, my kids were raised and I found myself wondering what to do next. I have way more friends amongst my vanlifers than I do locally. So, I have never found lonliness a problem. I do have a fridge in my Jeep, so food storage isn't a problem. I find I am way happier traveling than I would be sitting at home staring out the window watching the world pass me by watching TV. Safe Travels :)

Good to have a pro to talk to. I am leaning towards a vehicle that can go camping/sleeping in and economic enough for everyday driving. Is Rav4 or CRV a good choice pls? Someone said Kia Soul is good too. Am thinking an attached tent right behind the tail gate to make it the living area and the car for sleeping. Pls comment.

@DonRua you can rent several vehicles for a weekend and try them out. I did a Chrysler Town and Country touring up and the stow & go seats once removed gave me a ton of storage space. But give a few vehicles a try and see what fits your style. That's what makes taking off so much fun. You decide where your house is for the night. I'm currently working on a hightop one ton van I've converted to four wheel drive. I can go off road out west and have all the luxuries of home. Or go where motor homes are not allowed. I've had several vans but this one is perfect for what I enjoy. You're going to find your's just be patient and don't settle. Best wishes.

My husband passed away 4 years ago August 24th. I have been wanting to do van life for about 8 years and was trying to talk my husband into going before he got sick. He was very ill for 2 years before he got a lung transplant. But unfortunately he was too weak when his body rejected the lung and he did not make it. I now have just a car and have been afraid to try camping in just a car. But I honestly have to admit that watching you has sprung a spark in me again. Oh and I am glad you don't pay much attention to people that make comments to you about living in your car and your husband leaving you. Sometimes people just like to see if they can get other people upset for entertainment on their part. Love your videos, keep going

Aw thank you Kimberly! I'm so sorry for your loss. I can't imagine how difficult that must have been. I had been thinking about vanlife for about 7 years before actually trying it. I think starting in a car is a good idea before investing into something bigger... but if you do it don't get discourage when it gets uncomfortable, just take breaks as needed. I hope you decide to go out and explore! 💕

Good for you that you found a way to live out your dream of living a life of "freedom" from the office. Most people are unfortunately stuck in a 9-5 office job that does not allow them to roam free. I retired very early and the joy of getting in the car going on an adventure with no specific destination in mind or any time limitations is just awesome. I did so myself and figured I go for a couple of weeks which turned into a couple of months just roaming the country. I definitely want to do that again, but this time I want to convert my SUV to be as comfortable to camp in as possible. Loved your curtain solution BTW.

I'm going back through your videos I hadn't seen. I think its awesome that you read the comments but I hope you don't let them discourage you at all (it seems like you don't). I think what you're doing is AMAZING! I have a small bus that I inherited from my Dad. He had dreams of traveling around the country but died before he could. I had the bus for a year or so wondering what I was going to ever do with it. My world got flipped upside down last year when my wife decided to leave. As much as I hate that she left one thing it did was open the door wide open for me to continue with my Dads dream. (and something I've always wanted to do). I've been converting the bus to live and travel in. Its been a slow process for me, and no youtube channel of it as of yet, but your videos really inspire me. So Thank You!! I also think its awesome that your stepdad helps you, I would have loved to been able to work with my Dad on this even though we would have probably butted heads a lot :) Keep up the Awesome Work!!

Great Job Elisa, I just started following. I am a car camper and avid hiker. A bit different than living in my car full time. I see that with each adventure you are gaining more confidence in what you are doing as well as enjoying it more. Finding out what works for you and what doesn’t. A suggestion would be to find a way to attach the gazebo to the tailgate section of your Rav. That will extend your living space in the day time.then close up shop (tailgate)at night. Also if you don’t already have some, a can of bear spray. It will help to keep away the two legged animals. I’ve found when camping, natures creatures are curios but more afraid of you. Also maybe a couple of battery motion lights that you can attach with magnets at night for peace of mind. Enjoy the journey!

I lived in my Toyota Prius C for two years and it was nice since it only used about one gallon of gas per night to provide full AC and heat. I did It out of necessity to survive a tough financial set back. Now I'm back living in my house. I applaud your toughness as it is not easy living in a car. I'm 6-2 and I just slept in the front seat with pillows and a blanket. I just had window blinds and used black sheets to cover my stuff so it didn't look like I was living in my car. No one ever noticed.

First time I've seen your videos and I enjoyed it. Listen, you are a very smart person and know exactly who you are and what is important to you. I think people make some assumptions about KZbinrs and try to put them all in a box as the same. You are not the typical case. You're educated, you have a marketable skill being a pharmacist and on top of that also run a business teaching English online. You have structured your life so you can do what you want to do. Right now that is traveling but that could change but again you have the skills to do what ever you choose to do. Living out of my car wouldn't be for me but I am thrilled you are enjoying life and wish you all the best.

I understand completely why you want to do this. When I was younger (back in the 70s) I wanted to expand my world too. I was just out of the Navy and had the urge to travel. I did most of my traveling by hitchhiking though. I also got into hopping freight trains. Don't regret any of it and I look back and think this was the best thing I ever did with my life. Lots of adventures. I backpacked all over the US and into Canada. Worked a lot of different odd jobs and met some wonderful people some of whom I'm still in contact with today. Your travel experiences will no doubt enrich your life and when you get older, you will realize that you experienced things that few people ever get to do. I'm 71 now, a retired college professor (biologist) and I still travel. I have a small 13" Scamp camper. My travels are the best part of my retirement. It's all about being free to enjoy the world around you and in my case, the outdoors. Just recently found your channel and I'm so impressed with what you have accomplished and what your are accomplishing. Don't let those who lack the courage to live outside the "norm" to bring you down. Very simply, you are truly awesome. Stay safe and enjoy!

What keeps you young, is doing what makes you smile .... this lifestyle is not for everyone, but neither is traditional home living. People living in a house and are quite isolated still. Rav4's are great little cars for car camping. We have a 2020 hybrid AWD and it works great for mild offroad. I would not go rock climbing with it, but its a good vehicle for running about. I think the rabbit would be a lot of fun to travel with. Keep up the great videos. You are a natural at it.

I’m jealous of your lifestyle! Everyone just needs to take their own path and live their own life. You do you and enjoy! All the ones worrying about your personal life are just jealous because you are a stunning woman that seems independent and happy! ❤ I would love to be this strong to just do this life.

Once I saw the Rx at the end, I'm like NO WAY she's a pharmacist.. until I found this video. I'm also a hospital pharmacist and have been wanting to do van life. I'm happy to see someone in this profession doing this. I'll live vicariously through your adventures until maybe one day I have the courage to do so. Cheers!

I just saw your channel today. You’re doing what I want to be doing so I really don’t understand those stupid questions. People are just so hyper-domesticated this day and age it’s not even funny, or they’re just jealous. Im trying to come up with an idea to be able to keep paying my rent but live on the road. Right now im just watching how others do and found you’re video. Im excited to see how your van turns out, congratulations! Thanks for the inspiration, there seems to be fewer and fewer of the free spirits out there!

OMG! Can’t people take a joke? I’ve been living in my car for 3 years and 1 month now exploring the each state except Hawaii and Alaska by choice (not homeless). You are not “crazy” as there are thousands of us short term and long term nomads each with his or her own reasons for living in our vehicles. The rewards often outweigh the challenges. My biggest one is sometimes parking. I also have a gym membership to Anytime Fitness all over the country 24/7 open. I also have several state park passes and a permanent National Park pass to every federal park. I also access military bases as a retired soldier as well as Veterans Hospitals in every state for medical and dental care if I need it. Your videos are very good and I learned a lot from them like I do other traveler’s videos or sharing info on the road at truck and rest stops. Safe travels young lady! 👍🇺🇸

Homeless I get this quite often. But my truck and trailer or caravan is worth more than the average brick and morta house. Most people struggle to relate to a mobile home and business. My rig is a go everywhere off grid setup. When you are setup in your van you'll be amazed at the comfort and scope of possibilities. My rig has on-board toilet, hot and cold running water, shower, WiFi, computers, electricity from solar panels on my struck. Plus shore power connection when parked at a caravan sites. It's my business and home all in one. I have my own coffee brand sourced from East Africa. I sell to supermarkets and hospitality outlets in my country.

I write this not to be mean but rather informative. The sleeping board is always flat. The correct word to describe your meaning is level. As in no slope. Slope can make one really uncomfortable when blood flows towards the side that is lower more easily. My wife and I camp out of a Toyota Sienna. Our double sleeping board has much longer legs at the front of the car then near the back These legs allow for larger storage totes for cloths near the slider doors and thinner totes for kitchen stuff and dry food near the back where the cooking gear is. I used a builders level to get it perfectly level, and also because the car over it's length is sloping as well. Cheers and happy travels!

Interesting story- thanks for sharing. Just be you- I lived in my Toyota Sienna for many years. I was working full time, and used the gym to workout, shower and have a social life. Not many people knew. It was stressful at times. But very much who I was , a lot of time to surf, swim and bike. Also allows me to travel outside of the US,which I had never done before . Over some time I was able to put away a nice chunk of change. Always dreamed of the sprinter lifestyle. Maybe in a little while. I found a beautiful wife on my travels. So kicking back here in Arizona highlands for a few years already. Cheers .

I have great admiration for people who aren't afraid to take risks and are adventurest. What better way to travel than living in a mobile home? I think it's fantastic. Having a big house feels like such a waste. I currently own a condo, but I'm interested in exploring container homes, tiny homes, and mobile homes.

Your video popped up on my suggested videos to watch, good to see someone doing themself. As a former truck driver I enjoyed the open road most of the time. I strongly suggest you pre-trip every time before driving. Better to catch any issues with your vehicle beforehand. Safe Travels 🙏🏽

Who ever made the ridiculous comment about losing a man only succeeded in showing their true colors of being a resentful person toward you, simply because you’re a very likable woman, you give off a vibe of being confident while being humble, you seem to have a great attitude toward life, and with all that it unfortunately brings out some of those who are a bit pathetic, they feel they need to knock you down a notch because for some reason they resent people who have it together, keep rock’n and keep liv’n!
