I travel and live out of my Jeep Wrangler pulling an overland trailer. I am retired. I got to retirement, my kids were raised and I found myself wondering what to do next. I have way more friends amongst my vanlifers than I do locally. So, I have never found lonliness a problem. I do have a fridge in my Jeep, so food storage isn't a problem. I find I am way happier traveling than I would be sitting at home staring out the window watching the world pass me by watching TV. Safe Travels :)

Good to have a pro to talk to. I am leaning towards a vehicle that can go camping/sleeping in and economic enough for everyday driving. Is Rav4 or CRV a good choice pls? Someone said Kia Soul is good too. Am thinking an attached tent right behind the tail gate to make it the living area and the car for sleeping. Pls comment.
@beepseatsfindingfoodtreasu8756 Жыл бұрын
@DonRua you can rent several vehicles for a weekend and try them out. I did a Chrysler Town and Country touring up and the stow & go seats once removed gave me a ton of storage space. But give a few vehicles a try and see what fits your style. That's what makes taking off so much fun. You decide where your house is for the night. I'm currently working on a hightop one ton van I've converted to four wheel drive. I can go off road out west and have all the luxuries of home. Or go where motor homes are not allowed. I've had several vans but this one is perfect for what I enjoy. You're going to find your's just be patient and don't settle. Best wishes.

My husband passed away 4 years ago August 24th. I have been wanting to do van life for about 8 years and was trying to talk my husband into going before he got sick. He was very ill for 2 years before he got a lung transplant. But unfortunately he was too weak when his body rejected the lung and he did not make it. I now have just a car and have been afraid to try camping in just a car. But I honestly have to admit that watching you has sprung a spark in me again. Oh and I am glad you don't pay much attention to people that make comments to you about living in your car and your husband leaving you. Sometimes people just like to see if they can get other people upset for entertainment on their part. Love your videos, keep going

Good for you that you found a way to live out your dream of living a life of "freedom" from the office. Most people are unfortunately stuck in a 9-5 office job that does not allow them to roam free. I retired very early and the joy of getting in the car going on an adventure with no specific destination in mind or any time limitations is just awesome. I did so myself and figured I go for a couple of weeks which turned into a couple of months just roaming the country. I definitely want to do that again, but this time I want to convert my SUV to be as comfortable to camp in as possible. Loved your curtain solution BTW.

I did It out of necessity to survive a tough financial set back. Now I'm back living in my house. I applaud your toughness as it is not easy living in a car. I'm 6-2 and I just slept in the front seat with pillows and a blanket. I just had window blinds and used black sheets to cover my stuff so it didn't look like I was living in my car. Great Job Elisa, I just started following. I am a car camper and avid hiker. A bit different than living in my car full time. I see that with each adventure you are gaining more confidence in what you are doing as well as enjoying it more. Finding out what works for you and what doesn’t. A suggestion would be to find a way to attach the gazebo to the tailgate section of your Rav. That will extend your living space in the day time.then close up shop (tailgate)at night. Also if you don’t already have some, a can of bear spray. It will help to keep away the two legged animals. I’ve found when camping, natures creatures are curios but more afraid of you. Also maybe a couple of battery motion lights that you can attach with magnets at night for peace of mind. Enjoy the journey!

I think what you're doing is AMAZING! I have a small bus that I inherited from my Dad. He had dreams of traveling around the country but died before he could. I had the bus for a year or so wondering what I was going to ever do with it. My world got flipped upside down last year when my wife decided to leave. As much as I hate that she left one thing it did was open the door wide open for me to continue with my Dads dream. (and something I've always wanted to do). I've been converting the bus to live and travel in. Its been a slow process for me, and no youtube channel of it as of yet, but your videos really inspire me. So Thank You!! So funny to hear of some of the concerns that some people raised like this person who claims you age twice as fast on the road sleeping in a car. Living the life of freedom from the 9-5 office job, who in reality often is more like 9-7, or 8, or 9, or 10 certainly does not age you faster. If anything it ages you less. Living a life like this full of adventures, exploration, and wonders rejuvenates you and relives any stress. I did a lot of strenuous hikes like 14ers on my road trips and that certainly keeps you in shape too.

I understand completely why you want to do this. When I was younger (back in the 70s) I wanted to expand my world too. I was just out of the Navy and had the urge to travel. I did most of my traveling by hitchhiking though. I also got into hopping freight trains. Don't regret any of it and I look back and think this was the best thing I ever did with my life. Lots of adventures. I backpacked all over the US and into Canada. Worked a lot of different odd jobs and met some wonderful people some of whom I'm still in contact with today. Your travel experiences will no doubt enrich your life and when you get older, you will realize that you experienced things that few people ever get to do. I'm 71 now, a retired college professor (biologist) and I still travel. I have a small 13" Scamp camper. My travels are the best part of my retirement. It's all about being free to enjoy the world around you and in my case, the outdoors. Just recently found your channel and I'm so impressed with what you have accomplished and what your are accomplishing. Don't let those who lack the courage to live outside the "norm" to bring you down. Very simply, you are truly awesome. Stay safe and enjoy!

I just got a little solar charger that's helpful but cannot rely on it to charge itself from sun. Need much larger surface area panel for that. Looking into larger charging bank. Cheers, Chris

I did the same thing without a car traveled around the country multiple times hitchiking staying in wonderful places like Key West, Montana, Santa Monica, Nashville and so on. I had no bills and no real responsablities and I wouldnt change that part of my life for anything it was so fun. When you get old and retire its too late to do some of those things. Something I noticed when I was a kid. So I can completely relate to your journey and aspiration for adventure. I hope that you have the time of your life congrats and thanks for sharing!!

I most definitely agree with the comment at 5:40 -- I think a Campervan would suit you very, very well. And, you could have some solar panels, battery pack, and that'd be pretty luxurious depending on the part of the country you are in. Could charge it from your vehicle during unpleasant weather, as well. And you'd have more space for clean water storage. I also think it'd give you some good content to make, campervan lifestyle. Me and my GF would probably live in a small RV, or campervan, if we didn't have 3 kids lol. We don't need much space personally, but it would be hard to get the kids ready for school 5 days a week in a van.

I really admire what you've done and your desire to strike out from the boring and ordinary.

I think you are doing the right thing by trialing van-life in your car. Your rabbit is very cute. Gracious handling of the negative commenters. Nice video.

I am glad I found your videos. I have been fascinated by driving/camping, free as a bird, since I was a child. Someday I will gather the courage to do it. Thanx for sharing.

I love what you are doing. This is so inspirational. All the hustle and no fun leaves you questioning if there is more out there. Keep doing what your doing. Do you enjoy life and the simple things that money can't buy. Like peace, self exploration/development, and enjoyment. Thank you. ❤🤗

Hi Elisa…well done with the videos! For the past 2 months I lived out of a Nissan Rogue and I loved it. Was in the Rockies. Used a tent and also slept in the back. I’d love to compare notes of how you and I managed but I was much more in nature. Badlands, Black Hills, Montana, Yellowstone, Tetons, Arches, Teluride, Rocky Mtn National Park, Pikes peak…. You’ve now bought your Class B to renovate. I am considering a truck and trailer. My mother lives in Florida…I’ve been living in Singapore, moved back to the US. Wish I could meet someone like you…my experience so far in the US has been a little disappointing! People seem a little self absorbed.

First time I've seen your videos and I enjoyed it. Listen, you are a very smart person and know exactly who you are and what is important to you. I think people make some assumptions about KZbinrs and try to put them all in a box as the same. You are not the typical case. You're educated, you have a marketable skill being a pharmacist and on top of that also run a business teaching English online. You have structured your life so you can do what you want to do. Right now that is traveling but that could change but again you have the skills to do what ever you choose to do. Living out of my car wouldn't be for me but I am thrilled you are enjoying life and wish you all the best.

Elisa….I just came across your channel and love what I see. I am subscribing. I can hardly believe that you are doing this as you are so beautiful and look so professional. Having been a pharmacist is interesting. But I want to wish you well as I believe happiness and freedom are the most important thing for you right now. I see you got a van recently and are making it into a home. Wish you were here so I could help you. I live in NE Oregon. You seem so talented to do that all by yourself. About you living this way……if you are happy and can support yourself,I think that is wonderful. I have traveled so very much when I was younger and will tell you that possessions do not make a person truly happy. Experiences are what make you happy because later in life being free and remembering all the neat things you did earlier will be more valuable than any possession you have. People think an object they just got will make them happy but a year later it will mean very little to them. Go for it sweet girl but always remember to be safe. If you are around Joseph, Oregon please stop by. Would be most fun to meet you. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for providing a window into answering viewers' curious questions (the good and the bad). With respect to the channel name, I would like to remind everyone that travel IS available over-the-counter--you do not need a prescription. (Though some of us could use one!)
