Okay so, before reality, there was only endless fog, Archtrees, grey crags, and Dragons. Then, deep within the earth, there was Fire. With Fire came the seperationnof concepts, life and death, heat and cold, light and dark. Four souls were claimed by the beings that found the fire; The Light that Gwynn used to strike dragons from the sky, Death that Gravelord Nito spread like a miasma, Life that was personifoed by the Pyromancies of the Witch of Izaleth, a life that would one day consume her, and finally, The Dark Soul was claimed by The Furtive Pigmy, progenitor of and ancestor to every single human. The Dark Soul was spread among his children by The Furtive Pigmy, and so while humans would still die, they would always return, immortal. When Gwynn struck out against the tyrannical rule of The Dragons, aided by the betrayal of Seath the Scaleless, the vast armies of Humanity, fighting as long as they had weapons to fire or rocks to throw, no matter how many times they were slain, aided Gwynn and the other Lords, and in fact killed the majority of The Dragons. However, Gwynn's age of fire did not last forever, and the light of his lordsoul began to fade. He feared this, and knew that Humanity would one day give birth to The Dark Lord, which would bring about The Age Of Dark, and the fading light was portent of this. First, The Witch Of Izaleth tried to use Pyromancy and the Lord Soul of Life to make a new Flame of Light, only to fail and warp and change into The Bed Of Chaos, and somehow created the carnival of horrors that was The Demons of Izaleth. these demons, while grotesque, were monstrously strong, and some even gifted with pyromancy. Unfortunately, one of those demons was The Witch Of Izaleth's own newborn Son, who became the Ceaseless Discharge, eternally spewing magma from his gigantic form. He was given The Charred Orange Ring by his sisters as a way to not feel the pain of the lava he made, but the fool he was, dropped it, and it grew into The Centipede Demon. While grotesque, the life made by the uncontrolled pyromancy of The Witch Of Izaleth was in fact successful, and the kingdom of Izaleth grew and prospered. Unfortunately, Gwynn feared the demons, and set upon them The Black Knights, weapons designed to kill the demons. He slaughtered the majority of them, untill they surrendered, and some demons were employed(or enslaved) in gwynn's empire, like the Asylum Demon who guards the undead asylum. However, there was still the problem of the Fading Fire, gwynn's age of light ending. And so, he set upon humanity a Curse. He linked Humanity to the fire, and Burned their immortality away to fuel The Fire. This worked, for a time, humanity lived and died and forgot their immortality as Gwynn shephearded them to believe he and the other lords were Gods. However, this did not work forever, the fire faded again, and with it, Gwynn's Power. The curse weakened, and people were born with The Darksign, who would rise once killed as they used to. However, they would also Go Mad due to the curse, due to gwynn's power burning away within them. This could be staved off at Bonfires by sacrificing Humanities to Gwynn's fire, and thus sustaining The Age Of Fire, but with each death those born with The Darksign would still go gradually insane. Gwynn, desparate to keep the flame alive, burned Himself in it, and while this worked, again the fire soon faded, and Humans were shepherded to believe they could stave off the undead by Linking The Fire again, sacrificing an undead to The Flame, and that is what you do in the first ending of Dark Souls 1. However, you can turn away, let the fire die, and bring about The Age Of Dark. In Dark Souls 3, countless undead have Linked The Fire over the ages, and humans have been born Ashen Ones, who are so burned by Gwynn's fire that they cannot be sacrificed to link the fire. You can let the fire finally die and bring about the age of dark, you can link it by bringing back the lords to their thrones, undead that link the fire once more, or, finally, you can take the last remaining of Gwynn's power into yourself, and become The Lord of Hollows.

I like the twist on the "We're not so different, you and I" speech to "The two of us couldn't be any more different and I'm glad for that." I kind of wish more stories did that, just for a change of pace
@Nightmare704RY

the thing is that the "we're not so different" is used mostly has a poor excuse to justify a villain while in here patches says: "by all logic and reason the two of us should be mortal enemies at each other's troath... istead we are friends".
@willc3697
@willc3697 11 ай бұрын
In one of my stories, the main villain and the hero are two characters cut from the same cloth; two members of a futuristic dimensional cyber-soldier regiment that received brain damage during their mission and went AWOL, but the way they changed from that moment is completely different. While the main character took her newfound freedom as a chance to explore the world and protect its people from the evil scum that prey on the weak, the antagonist went insane and became a sadistic monster. After she kills him, he refuses to die and becomes an AI in her head, which he tells her that despite his hatred for her, he’s happy that she was so different from him and he would still help her fight the new threat. He essentially pulled a Johnny Silverhand “I’m happy you’re so much not like me” moment.
@cpp3221

What would really subvert the trope would be the main character trying a "We're not so different, you and I" to convince it's opponent that they don't have to shoot each other or something. Of course, in most cases, if the villain is sure about what he has to do, it'll mostly result in a "I don't care + fuck you"

The fact that Patches of all people manged to outlive the gods themselves will never stop being hilarious. By all accounts he ought to be a legendary figure, revered as some sort of trickster demigod whose pranks are tests that only a true hero can overcome and who possesses knowledge of kingdoms whose names have been forgotten and will be forgotten... But instead he still just Patches, when he said that all he wants is simple things he means it. He will never get the reverence he deserves but that's not a loss in his eyes because it was never something he cared about in the first place. In the end of the day he is the real winner and he's just going to keep on winning.

Above all else, Undead are stubborn and curious things. They strive forward where others cower away, just to see what lies beyond. They search for discovery; knowledge, secrets, treasures and lore they can't fully grasp the meaning of to broaden their horizons. And no matter how hard or how many times they are knocked down they will get back up despite all odds or reason. In short Undead paradoxically cling on to life when there is next to none to be found.

Wow, that was perfect. All the references we're so good and the unbreakable Patches sums it up well enough. All the bloodshed and frustration we go through in hope to better the world, to do something right only to gain short lived happiness that'll eventually be followed by ever hurting sadness. Always grasping to the slightest glimpse of hope and even when all hope is lost, just fulfilling your duty as chosen unfead or choosing an own path, not rekindling the flame but maybe even letting die, choosing to set an end to this bleak crumbling world and not support the fear of the unknown and of death, because everything has to end. And why do we do it? To prove to ourselves and maybe othersthat we can beat all of Dark Souls, to show we are the best and most skilled player, to see our fair maidens/waifus, to kill everybody, to live through an amazing but dark almost hopeless story, immersing oneself into this rotten world or to just enjoy a world where we are the hero, to feel powerful when we slay one mighty foe after another, even those who claimed godhood and while doing so, learning that you, the one who no one thought could beat the odds stagged against him, can indeed overcome them by learning, adepting, getting stronger and stronger (or by bonking everything with a big stick from the start) til' you can be sure that there's nothing that you can't truly do (which could show you that it is the with real life as long as you're determined enough). I really love Dark Souls, From Software Games in general and I really like this video which perfectly sums up what it all comes down to, a simple *shrug*. We don't really know why we're doing what we're doing or maybe we do, but isn't that part of the charm? Like I said, great video and I'd be happy to hear why some of you played dark souls, why they lived through this cruel yet fascinating world. I love how all the npcs in souls games always talk about us like we have this grand and righteous motivation, when in reality our character is more akin to an impulsive cat, fueled by nothing but curiosity and an instinct that says that boredom is worse than any death the world throws at us.

" ...You know, l've realized, we really couldn't be more different, you and l... and yet here we stand, the both of us; undead, yet unbroken. Me? l'm simple, truly unbound; nothing to gain, nothing to lose. But *_you...?_* l've seen your ilk, time and time again... You grasp for the faintest glimmer of hope; kind-hearted fool that you are, you are blinded by the very light that guides you. So you stumble, searching for answers, driven into madness by the things you uncover... and still you remember what any sane person would rather forget... You want to save everyone... heheheheheh, pitiful, really; you can't even save yourself, and the more you try to help, the more you will lose. Whether you risk everything for glory or offer all that you have left -- with *_boundless_* compassion -- no one can foretell the consequences of your 'good intentions'... heheh. ...l'll never understand what drives you. Is it your thirst for knowledge? Faithful duty? Petty revenge? No matter; you shoulder a task far beyond yourself... and through all your trials, you realize that you measure up to it after all. And when even the gods despair and shy from their duty, when the last fire fades and the abyss grabs at your heart, you hold tight the embers that burn your fingers and you face the end -- unknowing, deceived, yet always sure of yourself... ...And the one thing l just can't understand... *_Why?_* " " *_[shrugs]_* "

And yet, why do the undead turn into Hollows? Before meeting Patches in Dark Souls 3, I think that Hollows are undead without a goal, they achieve it or give up on the way to it. But Patches is different, he has no purpose, he may forget his name, who he was, but he will never become hollow. He never had a “life goal” like the rest of the undead, he simply lived for his own pleasure without any purpose. Maybe this makes sense? An ordinary undead gives itself a goal (vessel), it fills this vessel and either gives up halfway or reaches the goal. In any case, the undead lose their target (vessel) and in its place... there is nothing. The undead lose a piece of themselves and there is nothing left in this place, it is hollow. You know that feeling when you finish reading a good book, beat a story-driven game, or quit something you've been doing for a long time? You feel empty inside, you have finally reached the finish line, but there is nothing further. On the other hand, Patches did not set a goal for himself, he did not become attached to people, he did not save people. He did not lose anything because he possessed nothing. Therefore, it is always whole, because it has no space for hollow.

Gotta say i already saw this video, but I came back to watch this video, I don't know why but it always reminds me of when I played the game, the passion and happiness of killing a difficult boss, a souls is a challenge and a journey at the same time that shows that you don't can just give up and you can do that, hahahaha people making jokes and me being all sentimental about something that everyone calls a game, said many things that no one really cares about hahahaha have a great day and praise the sun brothers and sisters
