I can connect a single panel to an inverter with 2 inputs or 4 inputs, for example if it has two inputs and is 600w, I can put a single 500w panel connected with a y connector to pull the inverter on both inputs from the same panel but without exceeding the total power?

Have WVC800 inverter connected to two solar pannels. After AC connection it starts working after while, flashing blue. Externel powermeter shows increase in power e.g. up to 375W. After some period (40sec, minute or two - it doffers) relay click power sharply goes do 0 and it start red blinking and realay clickinng. After while it turns blue and it repats again and again.
