"Solvang"....... means ...'Sun Village'...in Danish.....according to the original Danes who called themselves "Square Heads" in the Free Speech Days. As opposed to what they called Irish ...( Myself)....."Round Heads"... Anyway..... I grew up here in the 1960-70's. With the GRAND PARENTS OF THE FOUNDERS OF SOLVANG IN 1911. Solvang is Sun ( Sunny) Villiage

Note: We are fully aware that windmills and clogs are associated with Dutch and not Danish culture. In fact, all of Solvang is really an amalgamation of European culture for the purposes of attracting tourists (i.e. the half timbered facades). However, for the purposes of this video, we've placed everything under the "Danish umbrella" since that is how the town is headlined.

Note: Denmark had alot of windmills :)

We have windmills regardless of anyone’s associations 😭

I have always found Solvang facinating, it is this strange mix of dutch, bavarian and tiny bits danish culture, through a touristy american lens. It is as is kinda implied at the end of the video, a sort of a living themepark exhibit of those aforementioned places.

[ 9:41 ] - "Æbleskiver" is kind of a strange name for those delicious fluffy spheres. The word means "apple slices". I heard they used to put a piece of apple in the middle, but the "slices" part I can't explain. They are typically a Christmas thing 😁
@JesperSandgreen Жыл бұрын
The name is from the middle ages, where they where infact slices of æble dipped in dough and then fried. This was ofc before the invention of the æbleskive pan, which is how they are made now.

Uhm Solvang translated to danish does not mean sunny field ( sunny field translation to danish is sol mark) there isn't actually a word for Solvang
@abroadwiththeburrells2 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the clarification! That's what we were told, but apparently we were told wrong, lol
@hesselholdt1956 Жыл бұрын
That’s not right, ‘vang’ is an old danish word for field. (afgrænset jordstykke, fx en mark eller en eng der hører til en gård eller et hus / delimited piece of land, e.g. a field or a meadow that belongs to a farm or a house). So sunny field is close enough 👍

Solvang is a town of extraterrestrials. Many people that visit say that they feel like they’re in another world. That’s because it’s a town of extraterrestrials. The Basque community is another place founded by extraterrestrials from Andromeda. That’s why they can’t find the origin of the Basques. Extraterrestrials still visit the Basques and Peru.

If you ever comes yo Iowa, then you should visit the "Danish" town of Elk Horn. MUCH more "Danish" than Solvang! Some of the inhabitants actually speak Danish. Maybe not modern Danish, buuut it's still intelligible for Danes! ;)

Animals are NOT bastards! They have a right to be here and imagine if you were locked up in a pen instead in the wild where they belong you would be aggressive to. Learn some manners and respect for the animals. No one asked you to feed it!
