I am from Denmark and this video was fun to watch. The buildings look like very old countryside style, from around the mid century. Some of the things they sell in the shops are dutch and german, not danish, and we do not have osterich in Denmark, only in the zoo. But still a fun place, maybe i will check it out one day. They should have smørrebrød too. Nothing is more danish than good smørrebrød.

My favorite place in California! Thank you you did a great job on this video. I stayed here two days/nights and it was so wonderful. Did a lot of window shopping smorgasbord's, danishes, took pics. I stayed at the Royal Copenhagen Inn and it was so charming! My favorite place also was the Christmas shop which was right across the way from the hotel I stayed at. I didn't visit the ostriches I didn't know they were there at the time.

Some noteworthy restaurants there today are: First and Oak - a Michelin guide restaurant as with seasonal menus. Upscale but not snooty, so no need to dress too nice. Mad & Vin - amazing restaurant with reasonable prices, seasonal and casual in the Vinland hotel Peasants Feast - creative farm to table dishes in a super chill atmosphere. Limited indoor dining. Good Seed coffee roasters is also a fantastic coffee shop with lots of traditional and modern creative drinks.

I mean as a Dane checking in then yeah, Solvang definitely gets some things right and in others feel more like a mis matched parody of Denmark as well as the Netherlands. Especially with the souvenirs and like the clocks and dresses. Like we had like some dresses for like festivities and traditions but there's like only 1 island where they're still a regular tradition and even then those in the storefront there are again like a parody of such with how over the top it is. But the pastries and snacks do look really good, although the Æbleskiver you tried are only sold and eaten around Christmas back in Denmark. Seriously I have never wondered why the American settlers decided to serve them year round. And I mean you can definitely tell some stuff is represensative of Denmark... but kind of a Denmark that doesn't exist anymore, like one from 130 years ago with like the souvenir dresses and the signage and what not. But the food especially is on point and overall it probably is one of the better places for Danish representation in the US I guess. Especially on the west coast... until an Ole & Steen opens in LA that is lol.

Solvang is more like a caricature of a Danish city. It's the equivalent of another country making a mini american city, and then just building old buildings from the cowboy era and having someone dressed as a cowboy and go "yeeeeeeeehaw" and then thinking "yeah, this is a taste of america, no need to go visit the U.S since i've been here". Hell i'd almost call this city a parody if anything else. I remember how we saw a video of this city in our class and everyone was making fun of it because of how off the mark they are at representing Denmark. The only thing that seems to have withstood the test of time are the bakeries. They seem to sell the same stuff that we have here in ours. But things like the clocks, clothes and the porcelain stuff? Yeah no, you won't find that in a Danish house. Also, æbleskiver is only served around Christmas. It'd be like saying Americans eat pumpkin pie everyday, all year round. But considering the city is a tourist attraction, it makes sense to sell seasonal stuff all the time.

The dresses in the window looks Austria or German? The Tulips are Dutch too. Olive olie and vinegar, not Danish. And The Spanish mission? What does that have to do with Denmark?
