Massive thanks for this vid from 2021! I was literally on the brink of returning my new BigShot. I've been using it without an issue with frame dies for a few days, but when I got these intricate corner dies (very simialr to what you show in the video) they just wouldn't cut through in the middle of the design. I thought either the machine or the die was faulty! I even tried various quality papers, no luck. A bit of extra cardstock layer on top solved the problem perfectly - the shapes just pop out of the dies without effort. Cannot thank you enough. This vide should be on top of every cardmaking search list!!!!

I try everything you mentioned with similar success. I have one tip that I found that works, too. After the die is almost cut all the way through, I turn it over and add the rubber embossing mat without any shims, and run it through. I almost always finishes the job.

Awesome video, this is very helpful. Most people don't realize that they can add a paper shim on top of the die to help the die cutting machine add more pressure. That they don't NEED to have the metal shim. I just love watching your videos they are so helpful when using your stamps and dies. What I like mostly is that you show us how to manipulate the paper when making the flowers to make them look more real. I get more compliments than ever before on my cards, now that Ive adopted your techniques when making my flowers etc.. My friend Sue and I got to meet and take a picture with you at the convention this April in Collinsville IL. And you showed us how you make your poppy flowers. It was great to see first hand your technique on making them. You told us that your home store was about 5 1/2 hours from there, and I think we are going to take a road trip and come visit your store this summer sometime. Keep the awesome products coming. I can't wait to see what's new for next year!!!!

Thanks for this video Emma Lou. I've always used shims and waxed paper with my intricate dies but have struggled with those small areas that just don't quite seem to make it. Thanks for posting this video. I had this very problem this week with one of the dies in the Raindrops on Roses set. I tried it several times, but it just wouldn't work. I tried the other die in the set, and it worked beautifully. I have gone back tonight after watching your video, and after experimenting with shims, I finally got it to work. Thanks for this video. You explained the problem perfectly and showed excellent solutions for making our dies work better. It always frustrates me when I see a beautiful die being bashed by a reviewer that just doesn't know how to make these intricate dies work. I have also seen reviews by people that are trying to use very old die cutting machines that were simply not designed to work with these intricate dies. Sometimes it's time to purchase a new machine. Thanks for thinking ahead and making a companion oval die set. I can't wait for it to hit the market.

Damaged a metal shim, went threw many stacks of papers, non I might say was any good! I was determined that it wasn't going to win! Love the die but It gave me so much trouble! Thank you Emma Lou for the advice and showing such beautiful cards. I find (this is just my opinion) that using a Metal Adaptor Plate helps me immensely when cutting out intricate dies. I have all the die cut machines except the Vagabond and a few others, but I have the New Spellbinders Platinum, The Big Shot, Cuttlebug, The Grand Calibur and 2 more... I guess it is time to get rid of all of them but 2 huh? lol but anyway, the metal adaptor die works perfect at least for me. I have seen many video's that tell us that wax paper will ruin our dies, so I don't do that anymore...but this is just my opinion...THANK YOU Emma Lou...

If you run a tumbler dryer sheet through your machine with your dies in embossing mode before using them the paper then comes away easily when you do. You may need to repeat this after a few uses because paper dust builds up on the dies again. You can keep re-using the dryer sheets over and over..it gives a thin layer of silicone to your dies. No need for wax sheets etc.

Thanks for asking how I have progressed with my wafer die cut outs! I haven't conquered them yet, but I don't plan on giving up either! Your suggestion were very helpful! I'm still having problems with the die cutting out the lines around the square and not in the center. Maybe it would help if I told you that I'm working on the wave die. It's such a pretty die. I finally ended up cutting the centers out by hand. The card turned out pretty! I have a whole lot of pieces that I actually used for sea weed on another card! Lol. You know the old saying! Some of your best work comes from mistakes that you found useful while covering up your bobo's! ! So in answer to your question, no I haven't conquered my problem, but I set a side the problem, till I'm ready to dive in again!!! I must say you have really been a big help understanding why there was a problem in the first place! Thanks for very much!!! Nancy

When I have a problem with intricate dies, I use a Bounty paper towel usually folded in half. That seems to give the proper cushion. I have inserted a dryer sheet also to catch the small bits. Some of my friend were using text wt paper instead of the paper towels. That did not work. I normally use my Cuttlebug, even though I have an Evolution and Grand Calibur. I also have the Cricut and am probably the only person in the world who does not enjoy it. I would very much like someone to have it that would love it. I have crafted all my life, but of course could not afford the best products until several years ago. I started with Anna Griffin and I still love her products. I feel I need to branch out and get a less expensive line. When I saw HEARTFELT CREATIONS I was sold. Not a less expensive choice. Maybe I'm a crafting tool Snob, but I want the best and try not to settle for less. I will continue to watch your tutorials. Please tell me when you are exhausted from my posts, as I am a passionate crafter who thinks things should be done properly. I am also alone all day, so sometimes my brain kicks into creative overdrive and I tend to share too much. Thanks for your great tutorials and I will be starting my Christmas flower making with you about Wednesday if all items arrive in a timely manner. Thanks again for sharing your knowledge. Jonie

Please make a video on the gorgeous things that are behind you on the shelves! I love the lanterns! Are they in your collection?

Hi Sandra, Thank you for your suggestion! The cream lantern was a painted thrift store find and the one with the poppies was cut from a SVG file.

I really like your video and wish there were more like this. I notice you like your dies face down cutting side. I think it's more efficient. Do you emboss your dies too after die cut?

Sometimes, it depends on the die design.

I use a Crossover machine it is 20 years old. I rarely have an issue. I like to put my dies face down so I can see where on the paper I'm using but the instructions say die, then paper. I don't want to cut my base plate. Would the die get hurt if I put the metal plate under the cutting side?
@heartfeltcreations
@heartfeltcreations 2 жыл бұрын
Hey Chris, if it's a metal plate for precision die cutting, it won't hurt the die.

I have enjoyed watching your tutorials for the past few weeks/months. I have had a cast on my leg so maybe that what a sign for me to learn something new. I decided last night that I deserved the HEARTFELT CREATIONS STARTER KIT and I chose the Poinsettia stamps and dies. (2 sets...couldn't decide) I am so excited to get the supplies so I can sit and make my Christmas flowers. I am almost old enough to be retired but my back decided it was time for me to stop work and do the crafts that I really love. Even at work I was a graphic designer but I would like to create for me and not someone else. I notice you have the Vagabond. I have thought about purchase for a while. Since the new Vagabond came out I pretty much made up my mind. Do you enjoy your Vagabond?

Hey Emma Lou, Do you have a video showing how to put the corners together to make a doily? I watched a demonstrator show it a couple years ago at a Scrapbook Show. I have trouble lining it up as you briefly showed in this video.

You know how dies have those little holes/circles in them? Is there a way to prevent it from making an imprint on my paper?
