Solved! 1990 Saab 900S Idle Issues Fixed (It was the MAF)

I like your way of showing things even if they didn't solve the problem. It's the hole problem solving process that is so interesting. I'm dealing with bad cold start - then everything is fine. Fuelpump and/or check valve i guess...

If you try to start with the MAF disconnected, the ECU put injection in degraded mode, with a constant fuel injection so you can drive home if the MAF doesn't work.

Does a 900 even have anything like an ECU?

i have an ems 900 and an aero 900, prefer the ems, really good here in hot aussie land, glad to see someone else likes the normally aspirated stuff...

I do like the simplicity of the NA 900 but I can't help but covet the turbo version. At the time I bought the car, there weren't any turbo c900s available. Even less now! Thank you for the comment!

I feel like my car idles on 3 cylinders, If I touch the throttle it will vibrate quite strongly and make "blop blop" noises... This only happens when cold, and driving the car for just a very short distancce fixes it. Then it runs fine. I find it quite weird. Changed the spark plugs, spark plug number 1 smelled like unburnt fuel, so it's probably cylinder misbehaving when cold It starts up fine though. 1990 Saab 900i

Where did you find the mass air sensor? Looking everywhere for one.

1988 saab 900 turbo - I have a cold idle problem .. it starts fine but won't hold idle but once is warm up is fine .. I will check the MAF

Ya, sprayed and cleaned mine and my 1992 Convertible idles so much better now.

Did it run better with new 02 sensor

At the time, no. I still had a massive vacuum leak from my intake being warped so the o2 sensor did not help in making the car run better. It just gave me a working point to do diagnostic tests later on.

this is exactly what my 9000 is doing, runs for a minute, tries to stay alive then stalls. I'll check the map out asap!

When it dies , change the rotor arm. Resistor packed up on mine.
