This saved me in my 2019 equinox today. Same situation but we caught it before the battery died. Pulled out the fuse (had to look up where the fuse was for radio), turned the car on and pressed the radio power button a few times w fuse out, turned car off and waited 5 min, turn on again w no fuse, turn off for a second, put fuse in, success!!! Saved us a trip to the dealership and saved my parents anniversary lunch. Thank you!!!

I have a 2014 Chevy Cruze and I had the same problem. I followed Matt's steps and it really solved the problem. Now if they could recall this car because of the Trax-stability issue I keep having on this car.

Check the GM website AND the NHTSA site and check by your VIN number also call dealership and have them check your mileage vs. VIN number. The " site " said nope but the dealership fixed a $6,000.00 Tramsmisdion for FREE. Good luck. 👍

Had the same problem, my radio/display would also stay on so id just keep it off and play music on my phone. Just took my car to change the water outlet and got it back with the screen black after they reset the computer. This worked! Thank you so much for the video!!

I own a 2011 cruze and had the same problem. One morning I tried to open the car doors via remote but it didn't open. Car also didn't start(after getting in with the actual key). So I thought that my battery was dead and replaced it.(Couldnt guess that the stupid radio problem was related to the battery) After that I have seen your video. Another Chevy Cruze issue is spot on. Too many to even mention. I have almost 79k miles and I’m ready to get another vehicle soon. I cannot take all of these gm issues. I recall the Malibu had various issues, too. I’m buying foreign next time.

This worked for me for 2 weeks! Had all of these symptoms plus my back up camera wasn’t working. Bluetooth wouldn’t connect. I wound up needing to replace my battery. I recommend getting the battery checked if you start seeing these symptoms. Might save you from being stranded somewhere.

Nice! Worked for me too. Thanks for the tip! My car is at 23K miles, but I've had it over 3 years so it's outside warranty. Apparently, this issue is pretty common. GM keeps sending me a recall notice to change the ignition key (which I actually like the ignition key since all the buttons are on it)- they should really be forced to issue a recall on this electrical issue instead... I just checked mine luckily it was the 7.5 amp fuse just under the radio one and it is the display head unit fuse. My screen was black sound still good and turn signals now it all works again!

You can give it a shot, the worst that should happen is that you have to reset your clock and presets. If it doesn’t work I would go complain to the dealership and demand them fix it or replace the radio (ask for a manager). The issue started after your car was left in their care. Good Luck!

Instead of pulling a fuse, I ended up disconnecting the negative battery cable, waiting five minutes and reconnecting the battery. It did the trick for me, the only downside I found was that I then had to go through the dashboard "setup" to retrain the car to use miles and gallons, etc. A small price to pay compared to what the dealer would have certainly tried to take from me. So to anyone that doesn't get it fixed with just the fuse pull, disconnect the negative battery cable, wait a few minutes (five minutes is how long I waited), reconnect it and see how it goes.

I have a 16 Malibu and a couple of times in the year since I've had my car the screen would freeze while a song is playing. Eventually the screen would go black but then it would reboot itself. I went to Chevy today and they told me if it doesn't happen that much then there's no cause for concern. He also mentioned that it may be a software update issue. Feel free to reply if you have any thoughts. reason I don't want to mess with the fuse cause I really don't want to mess anything up.

I'm having the same "freezing" issue with my 2015 Cruse, the screen isn't going black like on his video so until I read your comment I worried this wouldn't fix it. I cant do anything with the knob or screen or even the steering wheel controls for about 3 or 4 minutes and then the radio freaks out with everything I tried to do it in while it was frozen in fast forward lol...Hopefully this will fix mine like it did yours!!!

Thank You. Worked for me. Strange backup camera and turn signal function before reset. I believe the issue is related to a weak battery. The car starts fine, but the voltage drops low enough while cranking that radio has a start up error.
