Amber was found standing next to a fallen tree. I remember hearing someone saying that a toddler who gets lost in woods will typically lie down, right up against the trunk of a fallen tree and go silent - seens to be some kind of a ancient instinct to hide from predators, but it also makes it hard for rescuers to find them. This expert said when a toddler goes missing, search very carefully along the entire length of both sides of any and all fallen trees in the area. If Amber did cuddle up to the fallen tree all night, the tree trunk and leaf litter could have held enough warmth to protect her from hypothermia.

If you happen to find any additional info on this subject, I’d love to know. I’ve tried researching various forms of human child instincts and it’s all the same ones about why babies cry and children find certain food gross. That's super interesting. When I was a kid 30+ years ago we were told that if we ever got lost to hug a tree. It was so that the child wouldn't wander off too far and would help them be found. I was at a huge assembly once and got separated from my family and I stopped and hugged a tree. Someone found me and brought me to the lost and found......lol..... where my mom found me later. Fun fact: a different child called Amber went missing decades ago and was found dead. They never found her kidnapper/murderer, but her mother petitioned for laws that publicise missing cases more severely, interrupt news/radio, and send out a larger search team in those first crucial hours and days. That’s how we got the AMBER alert in the US. Before that, public awareness was even worse on missing person’s cases, especially on children’s cases.

Steven's story sounds a lot like the case of Hannah Upp. She went for a jog and went missing for weeks only to be found almost drowning in a river. She had no recollection of whatever happened to her, but throughout the time she was missing, she was seen in surveillance camera footages just doing regular stuff in the city. Apparently it's a rare type of amnesia called dissociative fugue, which can cause the sufferer to travel to unexpected places and have no recollection of it. Hannah went missing again in 2017, and to this day, she hasn't been found.

The 1978 case of Steven Kubacki's disappearance is similar to the story of Hannah Emily Upp (around 1000mi/1600km away in New York/Maryland) who suffered from a dissociative fugue in August 2008. While these stories are fascinating - I do feel sorry for the victims, they must feel so hopeless being unable to account for their actions during the time they were "missing". I had a similar experience while driving once - but it must have lasted only a short while - I just recall "waking up" as I approached an offramp, and feeling horribly lost and confused in "unfamiliar surroundings". It turned out to be around 10km (or 3 highway offramps) away from my "last conscious memory", heading in almost the opposite direction of my intended destination. I slowed down, slowly got my bearings, took the offramp, got back onto the highway and headed on my way again in the other direction. The idea of "losing consciousness" and operating a vehicle at speeds of 120km/h - driving to some unknown destination - was really scary.

I know a person with DID. When he disassociates he has no memory of the events, but on the outside he acts like a normal person. Those who know him can tell the differences when he is disassociating, but to a stranger they wouldn't know. It's rare for him to have an event - in fact he has only had five in his 32 years of life - and the 3rd story sounds exactly like that.

My grandson was about 2 years old when they lived on a rugged farm with lots of hills far out of society. They always kept him inside the yard, because it was dangerous to let him out of their sight. One day, while I was visiting, I decided to take him for a walk. Lol, once I opened the gate, he ran!!!! I struggled to keep up with him! It was like he was enoying the freedom and been curious of what's outside there. We continuoud for about 30 min before he got tired and went slower as tine goes on. It was so funny and weird. He didn't allow me to pick him up as I think he was afraid I'll take him back home and he wanted to explore. So I let him explored untill he eventually got to tired, then I picked him up and took him home. So I thoroughly believe this story. I just thank God watching over this little girl during night time! That second story reminds me of something I did when I was 4 years old. My family was at our beach house in Ocean City New Jersey. Our house was on a corner and the beach was about 3 large intersections away with 2 smaller side streets in between. My parents were apparently taking too long to pack for the beach so I decided to walk there myself. After all the frantic packing, my parents were finally ready and noticed I wasn’t there. They couldn’t find me in the house so in a panic they ran outside and they could see me down the way already having crossed 2 of the 3 busy intersections at 4 years old. My father then ran to catch up to me 🤣 I was very lucky there weren’t any weirdos driving around I could have very easily been taken or even hit by a car I must have had someone up above looking our for me

My little brother was around the age of Amber when he did the same thing as her. We lived in front of a forest where we often went in for a walk. My mother was busy birnging back groceries to our house and she thought my little brother was sleeping in his baby seat in the car,...When she came back the car door was opened, my two years old brother wasn't sitting in there (the belt taken off) and the dog was also missing. She reacted much like the father in the amber case, then called the police. She called my step-father who was at work and he left everything (including his clients and coworker in the middle of a reunion) to come and look for him with the police too but got trapped int he traffic jam for an hour and a half. The police went to look for the forest but found nothing, and our neighbor where looking around. Honestly at this point the police thought he was taken because there was no way in their mind a two years old kids could have taken off his belt and opened the door alll on his own. When my step-father came back, he claimed "i know where he is" and went directly in the forest witht eh officer. He told use that when he was trapped in the traffic jam he forbid himself ot think about someone taking his son (as it was too awful) and thought instead of how a two years old mind could work and why would he get out of the car -and then where he would go-. He though "i'm two years old, my dad forbid me to cross the road, i go to the forest to play maybe, thinking it's time for a walk? Then once in the forest, you take the easiest way, path that get down rather than up, with less vegetation, but funny space to climb or run" he was very scared because there is a river in the forest where we lived and while my brother knew how to swim at this age + the dog is specialized in saving people from drowning - he feared he might go there. Anyways he rushed there, and they found my little brother almost all the way to the next city, he had followed the path that went down. The dog was with him and he busy playing with a stick. Of course the officers took him immediately to the hopsital to examine him and then interrogated my step father because hell, that was weird. But they found nothing that said my brother was mistreated like amber, just coherent bruises with a walk inside the forest. (Though the dog did growl at the officer when she NEVER growl). Anyways he was found safe and sound and was told to NEVER wander out in the forest on his own ever again. Also he showed us he could open the door and take off his seat belt like no problem. Two years old can do more than what you might think. Anyway, now he is 21 and doesn't remember much but we're all glad he got out of this okay. This amber case is so like my little brother, sorry i couldn't help sharing it becaue well, it is weird xD

@@pricklypear7516 I agree. For fact that she could not have survived on one can of ginger ale for 20 day's is impossible in itself. She would have been having to drink her own urine to survive at all past the maximum of 5 day's and that is being extremely generous on time. If you've ever heard of the 3,3,3 rule, it is 100% true in survival. 3 minutes for air, 3 day's for water, & 3 week's for food, those are the deadly three and with all the information available at our fingertips it's very easy to know this story doesn't add up. There's been people missing in mountains & have kept alive drinking their own urine, even drinking their own blood or rather sucking their blood for proteins, even losing fingers and toes from frostbite, etc. All of them barely moving when finally found and in bad shape, including survivalists stranded by freak accidents. To still not know what or how she survived makes me feel she took off and purposely had someone report her missing to pop back up weeks later in a storage drain, slightly dehydrated.

The storm drain chick: Over two months later, she was in a storm drain in Grand Prairie, Texas. She supposedly has a mental illness and is a heavy drug user (according to various news articles). The Texas incident - police were looking for her for some reason, and when they approached her, she scurried into the drain system, eventually climbing out on her own and being taken to a psychiatric hospital. Some articles are withholding her name, citing her mental issues, but others have no such qualms. She was arrested in Florida in 2015 for grand theft auto, burglary of an unoccupied structure, and providing false information to a pawnbroker, and she is currently listed with the Florida Dept of Corrections as being an "absconder/fugitive" from felony probation supervision.

With everyone saying Amber's parents were bad at parenting or they should have tried harder. Let me tell you! I have a little sister, who was at the same/around the same age of 2 years old - 6 years old once upon a time. Would decide to get candy in the middle of the night. She would push something like a chair or stool up to the counter. She would climb onto the counter, she would climb onto the fridge to get into the shelves above the fridge to eat candies. My parents even had to duct tape the fridge shut at night, so she wouldn't steal cheese. She loved cheese. My little cousin did similar things, except he would run outside at the same age. He would unlock the door, he would even climb up onto stools to unlock the door to get outside. Children are smart and will become professional rogues, escape artists, thieves, etc... when it comes to what they want. Have a child who decided they want something, for example, Amber wanted to be outside. You cannot watch a child 24/7, so yes, those children make parenting difficult, but they are not bad parents. lmao. Bad parenting would be her parents not reporting her missing, not dedicating themselves to finding her, not worrying, etc... Those would be bad parents, but they did all those things because they care for and love their daughter. Add-on: I am glad that they found her safe and sound. That would have been horrible to find her any other way.

The fact he "woke" in the midst of what seemed normal life (well prepared for exploring/hiking, just not with what he started out with) is the most bizarre part to me. It's almost like he got set for making journey home, then memory of his time missing deleted. This kind of crazy stuff helps fuel the "alien abduction" believers. What little I know of how the brain works, amnesia to that degree would be the result of some physical or emotional trauma. If it were physical, I'd think there would be some sign, and he might have ongoing brain function issues. Is that enough talk? lol
