I tried this and it worked on my 2005 Silverado (4x4)! I took my truck to the shop to replace the wheel hub from the passenger side. After I picked up the truck from the shop, the ABS activated at slow speeds. There was no light on the dash though. It felt that the ABS was activating on the driver's side. I took the truck to be diagnosed and they told me there were no codes. So I took it upon myself to check the sensor on the driver's side. I followed the instructions on this video. When I inspected the sensor I noticed that it was a little detached. I took it off and cleaned it real well. I also sanded the place where it went. I sprayed a little paint. After I put everything back together, I test drove the truck and the ABS no longer activated! Thanks to this video, I was able to solve the issue!

That piece you called a "gasket", "plate", then "washer" is a shim. Some have more or no shims at all. If you remove all the rust and the abs still comes on, try removing a shim or two. The O ring is the "gasket" that keeps out debris. Great videos!

Okay so I've been following you guys for quite a while. I've been doing this 28 years and I cannot figure out this low speed ABS activation. It's usually when pulling up to a stop sign or a red light weather the steering wheel is straight or slightly turned the ABS pump kicks in and the service stabiltrack comes comes on the display. It is a 2008 Chevy Express 3500 regular cargo 6.0 l. I have replaced the front hub assemblies with new sensors and the two rear sensors with the AC Delco pigtail kits as well , I have also replaced fuses and relays just in case , inspected wiring to the module for the ABS and I was told that the only two things left are the steering wheel position sensor and the brake switch that could be causing this. Like I said I am a huge fan of you guys and hope you have more knowledge on this because I can't track down this problem that is freaking out the drivers in my fleet. HELLLPP

Just did this on my 2006 silverado 2500hd. It worked😊. A couple of comments: 1. If the truck is old enough to have this problem, you will probably break off the sensor sleeve when you remove it. The plastic sleeve will break off and stay in the hole in the hub. Don’t despair. Use some needle nose pliers to pull out the sleeve and throw it away. If the sensor itself is not damaged, get some liquid electrical tape and paint it all around the sensor and it’s tip. Let it dry for two hours before you reinstall it. To make sure water doesn’t get into the hole, get some plumbers putty and spread it around the base of the sensor before you reinstall it. Finally get a lock washer that is just big enough to fit over the Allen bolt. This will make sure that the Allen bolt presses the plastic sensor assembly tight against the hub where you filed and sanded away the rust. I’ve had this problem on a 1995 Yukon and my 2008 Silverado. Both when the hit their 8th year on the road. Poor design my gm. Thanks so much for making this video. It will help many people.😊

Just wanted to point out that if these are active sensors, they require a good electrical ground especially where the sensor mounting screw base metal collar contacts the metal wheel hub. Removing all the rust will resolve a poor ground issue if the issue is rust at the point of contact between the ground collar/ mounting bolt collar and the hub. Either way (active or passive sensor) always clean the mounting surface of any rust.

I followed the procedure exactly to get rid of the constant abs activation in my 2004 Tahoe 4x4. I even used a couple spritzes of spray paint, as recommended. On the driver's side, I had the little flimsy metal gasket but on the passenger side, there wasn't one but the sensor was of a different brand (not sure if that explains it). I just put everything back together rust free and no more clicking. Liberal use of brake cleaner is key to make the cleaning easy of the hub and sensor.

I wish I had seen this video first. Had a similar problem on my 02 Chevy S10 Blazer. Previous owner let the passenger side front brake get to Bare metal on the inner pad. Diagnostic tool said "erratic signal/no signal from passenger side front sensor, and that set an ABS DTC light. Upon inspection that sensor wire looked cut or just the casing was loose at the sensor. I bought 2 news ones to replace both. Had to clean out some metal shavings stuck to the magnet in the sensor. Wasn't rusty on that side so I didn't clean the mounting surface by file or emory cloth. Now I get the low speed abs activation, but no codes set. I'll check the driver's side sensor mounting area for rust when I replace that sensor, and go back over the passenger side and clean out any more metal shavings with compressed air & brake cleaner. Then coat both mounting surfaces with a rust inhibitor.

I have a 1997 gmc jimmy when the ball joints went bad while under warranty the dealer cut the wheel speed sensor wires instead of unplugging them. They repaired the cut with simple wire connectors. When those corroded the ABS system would activate without much brake pressure but it just cycled the fluid inside the ABS valve removing all hydraulic pressure to the wheels. Giving complete brake failure. It surprised me because I actually worked at the TRW plant in Fowlerville MI where these systems were made. They told us any failure in the ABS system would result in the system returning you to just standard brakes. Unfortunately this is not true. Luckily no one was hurt. I since replaced the backing plates with new wheel speed sensors. These new ones started rubbing inside the rim and the same thing happened again. Now I just leave it unplugged.

these trucks rust. i have never replaced any components when my abs acted up. or when my service 4wd light came on. or various other bs that i noticed. i did however pull apart my main wiring harness at/near my abs module. i cut out as much as i could of the main pwr and ground wiring to the abs module it self and make them as short as possible (they were cooked/corroded). also pulled all the frame grounds off and reworked them in the same fashion. i got sick and tired of headlight bulbs constantly being replaced and came to the conclusion that i just need to rework the entire main wiring harness that not inside the cab. I still do preventive maintenance of my grounds keeping clean and I have never had a problem since. all of the electronic components in my truck are the originals from the factory. keep the resistance of the component low and in spec and it will last a hell of a lot longer. kevin- 2002 Chevy Avalanche 250k the best part is I noticed huge mile per gallon improvements an big time power gains compared to the sluggish feeling that the truck had gotten over the years.( think transmission computer shifts , and sensors giving correct information to the main PCM)

I was looking into the input/output transmission speed sensors but have NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT and NO abs light on the dash any more. Can you give me any advice on where to look without just blindly throwing parts at it?

I thought the spec on the caliper mounting bracket to the hub is 40ft.lb? Either way there is plenty torque, no axial load on the bracket only shear load. Great video was thinking of doing just this however replacing the entire hub doesnt seem to pricey. Are there any tricks to removing the CJ joint from the hub or is it just a centre bolt holding it to the spindle??

That’s sounds like the slider bolts that hold the caliper onto the bracket. Bracket bolts are 133ft lbs

my 96 Silverado c1500 has an issue where i can drive it for about 15 20 minutes top before the brakes engage themselves pretty much slowing the truck down and eventually making the truck unmovable until i let it sit for about 30 minutes. its ABS disc in the front and drum in the rear. i replaced 1 caliper and flex hose already. but both wheels are still stopped. i noticed my fluid was milky when i bled the new cylinder though. but its like they get hot, seize and then cool off and unseize. help!?!?

+Ron Wicker We wouldn't be able to diagnose an issue like that here, you may want to have a local mechanic take a look at it. Thanks for checking us out! 1aau.to/m/Shop-1AAuto-c

I am getting a magnetic encoder malfunction after wheel bearing swap. I reset the error and drive slow and I can feel that low speed ABS kick in on braking and then after a few of those, ABS light without the low speed ABS brake feel now. The scanner doesn’t say the sensor is bad so I’m going try and take it out and clean it. If I can’t get out cleanly will just manhandle and will just replace. The bearings are not backwards, the tone ring is facing in towards vehicle. I hope this is it and I don’t have a damaged bearing.

I put a brand new hub assembly with sensor on my 2013 4x4 silverado yesterday and it still activates on the same front left wheel so I have to disconnect the sensor to keep the brakes from applying its only the front left

figured out I needed to replace an abs sensor. thank you. other issue. front brakes won't release after driving for a bit and get up to 260 degrees. truck works hard to go down the road like I'm holding the brake pedal down. caliper pistons are free and float nicely. new rotors pads, d.s. caliper, and flexible brake lines. (thinking the brake lines were the culprit) I've read it could be the booster, master cylinder, or abs. do you have any video's on this problem?

You can check to make sure your rubber brake lines are not breaking down internally. They will swell up actually holding the pressure on the calipers making them not release. Rarely it could also be a bad master cylinder that is leaking pressure through the lines.
