@@EricRLane I want to thank you for your great grandfather's service to our country. He, like my father and father in law, were all part of the greatest generation. My father was in the "Mighty" 8th army air corps, stationed at Great Ashfield Air Base, in England. He was the navigator on the B-17's and flew 26 missions, 1 more than required, before being allowed to go home. Every time they flew in the B-17, they had a 13% chance of survival. After my father passed I was able to meet and have a beautiful relationship with my father's pilot. 😊My father in law was in the Army 's 14th Armored Division, and was the group that liberated Mooseburg's concentration camp, and several other camps as well. There after his division was called the Liberators. Sadly he passed years before I was in the picture. It is wonderful, and refreshing that someone your age is aware of your great grandfather's service. We run across a lot of families that either don't know or don't care to learn about the military service of their family member, which to us is always sad. If you understand history it explains what is going on today, it always repeats itself. Currently my husband builds beautiful flag boxes for the flag that is presented at the funeral of a veteran. Happy New Year, God's blessings to you and your family and we are sorry for the loss of your great grandfather.🇱🇷❤

Thank you so much AWP for your work and time. You guys really are angels. I hope you guys have a happy holiday, and time to rest.
@norwalkspectator52753 жыл бұрын
There is no doubt that what AWP does is stressful and takes an emotional toll on the team. While I can understand Jared's anger, I do want to point out that most people aren't aware of the number of missing people who end up in submerged vehicles. And even if the boaters were and had their fish finders turned on when they launched, I'm not terribly sure they would have recognized the vehicle for what it was. If one of the team hadn't recognized that piece of undercarriage from the Ford because he had to remove it from his wife's car, the others wouldn't have realized what it was either. Jared had to pass over the vehicle a few times with the sonar before he was sure it was a car, so I'm willing to cut the other boaters some slack for not using their sonar so close to the ramp and/or not recognizing the vehicle on the screen. It was a tragedy for sure, but the victim has been found and returned to his family for burial. And that is their purpose.

@Marshall Carwood Even in a large municipality, there are those who are experts in a given area that can be ignored or dismissed. Recently sat through a major fight over funding for a retired detective who just has the "touch" for spent bullets and recovered firearms. One group didn't want to pay the person as an outside consultant because there "must be other officers out there who have the same level of expertise". It didn't matter that he cracked at least 10 cold cases or the fact that even the State officials go to this person for consultations. Jared and Company obviously have the touch for these types of cases and even though they found the vehicle fairly quickly, Jared still had to go over the area a few times to verify the vehicle was actually there. @ggmanatee2 жыл бұрын
As they mentioned, it's a town of less than 400 people, so their local law enforcement definitely doesn't have the budget for the technology AWP uses. Being in the industry, a town of that size would rely on donations or grants to get any kind of investment into technology and given the fact that smaller towns are usually poorer, it's not likely they'll get that kind of search and rescue tech any time soon. Thanks for your service.

@birdy3692 жыл бұрын
I've come to conclude, from only my own guesses, that sometimes these PDs may have all of the evidence in the world pointing to where a missing persons is in these cases where they ARE actually in vehicles underwater, yet these departments, and even the bigger city ones, may not have the tech to properly search to confirm for sure... or they do, and they HAVE basically confirmed it amongst themselves, but they do not have the other things necessary to retrieve the car/persons.. and I feel in those cases they may purposely choose not to tell the families because of the outrage and backlash they would face for not doing more, either because of • Lack of man power or man hours, when they've got a whole town or city full of live victims to be looking after, as well as if they have to wait to have people or equipment to come in from other places for proper confirmation or for recovery, they may choose not to release information to thr public or families, so they don't have anyone going to the scene for any reason in the meantime, as well as not having to have police guard the area until recovery, ya know, so the family doesn't come try anything either out of desperation or nothin.... • Lack of scuba training or other things needed to recover, certain types of tow vehicles/cranes needed to recover properly... • Lack of money to pay professionals or even coordination with nearby jurisdictions to come in and help (luckily AWP here does not charge anybody!) So with that, I think that police may decide upon acting as if they thoroughly searched the exact places that these victims are in, and tell the family that they're still following other leads or something, in order to avoid any backlash or anger from the family instead of saying that they know where they are but they have to leave them there... It also keeps the department "looking good" and I think that's why sometimes you'll see some PDs acting... a bit intolerant towards AWP. There was a case AWP did early on, with a white truck... the police and family DID know he was down there but lordy it was a RAGING muddy iver that his truck was buried underneath for years in, yet AWP had em out in hours despite the danger. No one was trained to handle that sort of thing there though. As well as a young man who was feet from another boat ramp... the police in that case were beyond ignorant and rude... accused AWP of bringing a fake license plate to the scene! Despite the scuba gear and everything else!

I agree that this town probably doesn't have the resources (I doubt it has a police department), but the county and state do. This was a missing human being. It took all of no time for the dive team to find a part of the car right on the shoreline. Having a deputy or two spending a shift checking boat docks for a missing person is the very least that they could have done, if they didn't.
@builtontherockhomestead93902 жыл бұрын
I live in Texas but closer to western side. Only law enforcement out here is county, no towns have anything. My county is larger in size then the state of Delaware, yet there maybe only a couple officers on duty at any time. I once called requesting an officer and had to wait over 6 hours cause the only officer on duty was in a meeting with the state fire marshal. I had to look Huxley on the map, so don't know anything about their law enforcement situation but I wouldn't be surprised if like my county, no dive team, few officers covering a huge area, and only VFD available. It is shameful no fisherman thought to check the river.

@@AdventuresWithPurpose Jared it is sad, and yet...many boaters may not be aware unless fliers are posted alerting people that someone is missing in this area and to keep their eyes open even on the water. In fact, they likely overlook the cars in the water, not even identifying them as that's not what they're there for. It is like looking for a Jeep on the highway. You may not notice all the Ford's if you're focusing your eyes on finding only a Jeep. When people get that tunnel vision and are looking only for what they're there for, they literally just don't even see anything else. Many people still find it hard to comprehend that there are so many in the waters. So they're not looking for it. And still others, when they do see it just assume it is a dumped vehicle. They don't connect it to missing people 😭 if only more people were proactive about reporting things they see that don't belong in a certain place. Even like cars in the woods. It isn't a junk yard. If something looks out of place, say something!

@@AdventuresWithPurpose Perhaps it is time to branch out with a side of AWP which travels to agencies and brings training on what to look for/where and why. You divers might not be able to carve out time to take knowledge to others, but there are many available with the drive and expertise in training who could under the aegis of this platform. LE agencies, Fishing and Hunting groups, Hunter Safety classes, General boating Safety classes and even just civic meetings could all be venues for education.

I used to believe that narrative “ folks spat of them “… that’s not true. I’m a navy veteran USS Puget Sound. I am in graduate school to become a social worker to work with veterans. I decided to do extensive research to better understand the issues with veterans that served in different campaigns so I could be better prepared . For example, veterans from the Korean War often feel forgotten etc I was shocked to find the narrative “ we were spat on” to just not be true but a lot of veterans by into that narrative and the victim consciousness that goes along with it. It’s was the hippies, the rebels etc that spoke out against the war and fully supported the troops, they challenged the politicans and all their lies. I wish I could remember the documentary, saw it about a year ago on KZbin, there were veterans challenging other veterans saying “ man that’s just not true, we were not spat on , we have yet to find the footage “. .. the one veteran in the clip suggested it was a lie stated by politicians and the media looking for a salacious story If I can find the link I will post it. Of course we can believe what we choose. I just always thought the spitting was true.

I am a Vietnam Veterans daughter. I remember when he left for Vietnam and when he came home for good. Those two days will never be forgotten by me. Yes, many did not respect the Military personnel when they returned home, and so many more did respect them. One thing is for sure, they are respected today, and loved by this country. I want to thank the recovery team for what they have done for this family. I think this hit home for so many because this is a Veteran, who they brought home again..God Bless their efforts and the families who receive this closure..

To Jared and Doug and the rest of your team a huge thank you for being so dedicated in this calling. I don't know how y'all handle seeing these families loved ones in the vehicles. I wish I were there to hug the family and most of all you and your team. I love you guys so much!

Thank you sir for your service. Hearing he knew what was happening just makes my heart ache. Drowning is one of my fears, so I’ve carried a window punch for years. I live near a large lake in Texas and have multiple bridges to cross which ever direction I go. Thank you for making a video on water escape and offering the tool to break a window.
