good find on your oil leak. your analysis on the heat from the exhaust below it is spot on but there is a deeper reason why it failed. You need to manually adjust the valve clearances, according to the owners manual you should check and adjust them every 4000 miles. That is crazy, because you have to take the tank and carbs off the engine to get to the two inside valve adjust covers. It takes about 2 hour to check and adjust the valves, and about 90 minutes of that is just getting to the valves, and putting it all back together. Every 16,000 miles is probably an acceptable adjustment period. There are 4 of those tappet access covers, the back one you can get to with the bike fully assembled. The front one you can get to if you leave those fake plastic valve covers off when you do the full job (they have no function). But the two inside ones require pulling the carbs loose and moving them out of the way. So.. When you adjust your valves, if you dont replace those 4 O-rings, odds are they will not seal the 2nd.. 3rd.. 4th... time you do it and they will leak oil all over the engine. When you adjust your valves, replace those 4 o-rings. They are only a few dollars each from Yamaha. Its obvious the tappets have not been adjusted on your bike in a long time - it sounds like a sewing machine.

Do you have part numbers by any chance for those o rings? And i watched another how-to video on the valve adjustment and the guy who made it said there was actual 6 o rings you should replace

What about the other side there is another cover with a gasket near the exhaust, how would you replace that gasket
@neiramotorsport7294 Жыл бұрын
the other side is the same process, obviously, there will probably be more objects in the way, but its the same way, my motorcycle didn't need it on that side, so i didn't change it

kzbin.info/www/bejne/jXbYqmOVZdpkoqMfeature=shared There's a how to video for the whole process, at least for the 650 but it's essentially the same for most all years of the vstar

That's the COVER, CYLINDER HEAD
@kenwittlief255 Жыл бұрын
no that is the cover over the valve adjustment for the tappets the cylinder head has a plastic chromed cover that is non-functional, you can leave it off if you want your engine to look more authentic

It would have been really helpful if you put the part # with video rather than just saying where you got it !!
