Absolute value equations are equations where the variable is within an absolute value operator, like |x-5|=9. The challenge is that the absolute value of a number depends on the number's sign: if it's positive, it's equal to the number: |9|=9. If the number is negative, then the absolute value is its opposite: |-9|=9. So when we're dealing with a variable, we need to consider both cases. Doesn't substituting -2 into -(-3x + 2) equal 4? If so, isn't the second half of the solution correct?

I have the same question. Why did you substitute X = -2 in the equation 3x + 2 instead of -(3x -2) in the last question of the video? Could you kindly elaborate upon it? I'm a bit confused on which equation to check the answer.

@@Dr.Aayushi when you check your answer you always substitute x in the very first equation. So in the last example you should substitute x in |x+6|=3x+2. That's because whenever you get your answer, strictly speaking, you get an answer not to your original equation/inequality, but to a corollary of your original equation/inequality. And there are no other possible answers except those you get, but not all answers you get are in fact answers to your original problem. They are called (at least in my country) extraneous roots. I hope that helped.

Don't know if you still need an answer, but here it is. First subtract 4 from both sides, you will get |x|=-4, but absolute value is non-negative due to its definition, so there is no such x that satisfies this equation.
