"SHE WAS 5 TIMES AS OLD AS GAURAV" SO BASICALLY MOTHER'S AGE IS X +23 since you subtract the 5 to the “x+28” because it's five years ago. But then, since the second to the last sentence referred to gaurav's mother so it's 5(x+23). But your equation (x+28)-5 = 5(x-5) seems like gaurav are being multiply by 5. And it's does not satisfied to the statement “SHE WAS 5 TIMES AS OLD AS GAURAV”. In this statement it should be translated mathematically like this 5(x+23)= x-5. “5(x+23)” SHE WAS 5 TIMES AS OLD and “x-5” AS GAURAV.
