the equation at 8:29 has a long and a short method. You showed the short method, but the long method consists of log base 2 (x^2+4x)=log base 2 (5) put both terms on LHS log base 2 (x^2+4x) - log base 2 (5) = 0 using log laws log base 2 [(x^2+4x)/5)=0 2^0 = (x^2+4x)/5=1 x^2+4x=5 x^2+4x-5 = 0 simplify the quadratic (x+5)(x-1)=0 thus x= 1 or x= -5 this is a really useful video, no time wasting, just a plain black screen and coloured writing on it, practising log equations.
