Ultimately, the biggest benefit to me of this video was that a lot of people have this challenge. I thought it was just because I am old and weak. :) My spline shaft from the tractor PTO was damaged. The shaft is really hard steel and I ended up using a Harbor Freight cutoff tool to reshape the spline(s) after trying a file and Dremel tool. Your use of a file to clean the yoke is good because it is probably hard steel too, so it's unlikely a file will damage it. Thanks again. Also, cutting a piece of plastic tubing (copper, steel or aluminum would work) to hold the lock pin in the disengaged position was a big help, although with everything fitting right, depressing the pin while engaging the yoke may not be as big of a challenge. I put the tubing pieces in my toolbox.

Another fine presentation. I always learn something. I watched your video on how to build mini forks out of t posts and built a set for my Kubota BX and have already used them a couple of times in the first week. Thank you for the idea!!

Keep mine packed in grease biggest problem I run into is remembering how the locking ring works because as you know often we put them just once or so a year. Some rings push, others pull and some are squeezed.

Thanks. All the other hits for this problem are sales pitches or they don't have a problem connecting to the PTO. I knew I'd find a use for the dur-dur (plastic tube Walmart dog-poop bags are wrapped on, not the dur-dur for toilet paper). I cut about a half inch off with a hacksaw and then split it lengthwise. I use this to hold the spring-loaded pin depressed so I can focus on aligning the splines. One comment on another video was to use a marker to show where the grooves are on the yoke spline. I'm goin' to do that and see if it helps because I don't think I have a rust problem (stored in a SteelMaster outbuilding).

Yeah, Tex, your video was helpful. I went back at it today and it still would not go on, so I removed the PTO shaft shield. At that point, I could see clearly that the shaft had been boogered up. Probably from when I was moving snow over the winter and a clip came loose and the blade twisted. Anyway, I ended up "sharpening" the shaft almost like a spear. :) Now the Brush Chief shaft goes on smooth as silk. The tubing to hold the pin helped a lot, too.

Thanks for sharing. I Always take acid/Coca-Cola and put in a bucket and then when I’m done I get some old grease/oil from the Jiffy Lube and drop it in that bucket then wipe it off.

Hello from a fellow Texan! I recently purchased a used bush hog. The yoke release pin on the implement side appears to be seized. I have soaked it in PB blaster and attempted to strike it with a punch and hammer. It’s simply will not budge. Can you give me any helpful tips? I really do not want to have to pay a shop to remove it.

Sounds like you've tried everything I would have tried... except applying heat. Sometimes heating metal up will free it. Give it a try, but don't get it so hot that it melts the rubber seals on it. It shouldn't be close enough to get the rubber that hot, but just be aware. Let me know how it goes.

I forgot to push the pin when I tried connected my bish hog, it was only slightly attached to the shaft. At first it worked but then BANG, it stopped and now the shaft wont spin and the PTO light is flashing. What happened? Did the pto shaft stop spinning because of me not connecting it correctly or could this be another issue like electrical?
@BIGALTX2 жыл бұрын
Man, I don't know If you can get the PTO shaft off the tractor and it still flashes... there may be a serious problem If it's still on there it may just be jammed' Try to get it off (if it's not already)

Now you have a greasy dust/sand magnet. Just spray some PB blaster on it and shove it on. Why make things so complicated?
