so when do you use the quadratic formula and when don't you?
@onyinyeobudulu36627 жыл бұрын
You use the quadratic formula when solving the quadratic equation by using the normal technique is impossible. However, you can use the quadratic formula to solve any quadratic equation (even in instances where you can use the normal method) People usually refrain from using the quadratic formula before trying the normal method because it's lengthier and a waste of time if the normal method works. So in summary, you can use the quadratic formula with any quadratic equation at GCSE level.
@Fansofwow7 жыл бұрын
Onyx Sumiko Understood that now. What I meant was why did he use the quadratic formula when there was something like "5x". When there was 'x' by itself then I knew where I went wrong because he used the quadratic formula when there was something like "4x squared+12x+9=25. That's where I got confused, I then soon realised that after figuring it out and using my brain. Lol. Thank you anyways.

you factorise incorrectly , at 9:43 , to get -3x you would have to + -1x to cancel it out and simplify , not take away or else you'd be taking away from a negative making it -4x not -3x

how’d you know when to use the quadratic formula
@robinalsop96983 жыл бұрын
You can use it when the equation is equal to 0, instead of factorising like he did. When it is a relatively simple equation it is quicker to factorise, but for more complex ones it is easier to use the quadratic formula. It’s just down to preference really
@yvephix13254 жыл бұрын
Idk what to do when one of the lines are x = 2y + 5
@mathsgenie78084 жыл бұрын
You could rearrange the equation to make y the subject, or...just substitute some y values in to find the x values. If you sub in y=0 you find x=5, so (5, 0)

okay so im confused in 9:50 you say that (x-1)(x-2) but then you say x = 1 and x = -2, shouldn't x be = -1? and -2?
@natashasethia44903 жыл бұрын
No because when you solve the equation (x-1)=0 and get 1 to the other side, 0+1 = 1 same way with (x-2)=0 solve equation by getting 2 to the other side, the sign changes from - to + hence giving the answer +1 and +2

Allan Murray the higher level maths is used in science, technology, engineering and finance. But yeah it isn't widely used in "real life" situations. Try looking back at substitution and Solving Equations (linear and quadratic) before moving onto this topic.
@feero96806 жыл бұрын
General use of simultaneous eqn is like the following example: Buying 3 drinks and 2 burgers cost you a total of $8.50 dollar The next day you buy 6 drinks and 1 burger and that costs you a total of $11 dollar. You cant remember how much each drink and burger cost, so you apply this simultaneous method to find the of each product. Let drink becomes d and burger becomes b, now eqn is look like this: 3d+2b = 8.5 6d+1b = 11
