Solving The Female Prisoner Problem? Convicts with Cameras (Crime Documentary)

Күн бұрын

Conviction envisions alternatives to prison through the eyes of women behind bars and those fighting on the front lines of the decarceration movement. Not another ‘broken prison’ film, this collaboration is a ‘broken society’ film-an ambitious and inspired re-build of our community, from the inside out. The film compels viewers to examine why we imprison the most vulnerable among us, and at what cost.

Before I had my own children and stayed home to raise them, I was a middle school teacher for 15 years. The number of kids we have in society that are pretty much raising themselves is mind blowing. Not only are they raising themselves, they are raising their siblings, cousins... and parents. It's so damn sad that parents just produce these little humans that have to fend for themselves... and finally just give in to whatever life throws in their way. They don't believe they are worthy or capable of becoming better than what they see in their daily lives. I taught in inner city Houston for a few years. Kids would ask me, "Miss, where do you stay?" It took me a while to recognize that they used the word "stay" instead of "live" because they move constantly and stay wherever they can find a place. Rarely do they have a home that they grow up in. In schools, we've forgotten about the kids. It's all about test scores. The stupidity of pouring billions into testing while ignoring the basic needs of kids is the whole reason I'm not sure I'll ever go back to teaching.

This country values war more than helping the poor. Thus the military budget vs. helping those in need. We are in a plutocracy and the Democrats are the lesser of two evils but many of them are also being lobbied / influenced by the rich. Many Americans are brainwashed into thinking vulture capitalism, and being materialistic, is okay. Thus the downward spiral we're seeing economically over the past 40+ years.

Very well said. Thank You for sharing. So many people don.t have what we all take for granted. I had good parents. Lived in a nice house. We all ate supper together every evening in the 60.s and 70.s. It's so sad we lock anyone up. Instead of help them to learn to take better care of theirselves.

As a former prisoner from the states this whole video had me bawling. In Indiana where I was in prison there are almost no real programs you can get into that don't have a long long waiting list to help and there isn't a single one that helps when you get out at all. Our sentences are long and a lot of first time offenders like myself get sent to prison without any kind of program first. I was sent the first time for a drug offense that wasn't dealing or anything like that, I was just an addict that's all that it was really. I've been clean now going on 4 yrs no thanks to prison I started using within a year of being released because I didn't know how to cope. When I read about the one that over dosed that day it made me think of myself and I bawled. We think we aren't good enough because that's how we are made to think. I hope and pray they get their program up and running, they along with countless other women deserve it. Sorry for rambling. ☺ ♥

Good for you on the 4 years clean. I was very close to an addict with mental health issues who was in and out of prison. It did nothing to rehab him in any way. A harsher than necessary sentence turned him into a shell of his former self. He died last year, very unhappy & never quite adapted back into the outside life. I miss him, but at least he's now at peace. Keep up the good work & know you do matter. There needs to be so much more done for prisoners if they're ever expected to do well in society. Addiction is a disease & we need to start treating it as such.

I admire all of these women. How brave to go on camera and work on this cause. Addictions are very very hard and so difficult not to relapse. I firmly agree that prisons are not the best solution to helping most addicts. I live in New Zealand and i think this blueprint would work all over the world. I also want to say what an intelligent and self aware group of women, all of them. Beautiful souls

"I want to be able to support myself". That is the main thing that any person coming out of incarceration needs to be able to do. Coming out without a pot to piss in makes you wonder how you are going to do it. Shelter is a start. All that is, is a place to lay your head. They need the tools. Educate themselves on self-respect and learn a trade, develop a skill that will generate an income.

There but for the grace of some spiritual guide, there go I. I was place in institutions since I was a baby. Had an alcoholic mother and a drug dealer/addict father. If it weren't for Andy the cop and the nuns at St. Germaine's home for girls, I would probably be going through that revolving door. As soon as I was old enough, I left that all behind. I had a goal and a dream, so I set out for it. I had a lot of issues trying to accomplish it due to my many insecurities, but I faked it. It worked for thirty plus years until I finally had a breakdown. Thank God it was in time for retirement. I had completed what I set out to do but I couldn't keep it up. So, I retired and now I rest. I got away from it but it still is within me. The wild life, the night life, the danger, the fear always comes back at the least little thing or smell that reminds me. I attempted suicide 3 times but I panicked and called 911. Each time I waited longer before I called. The last time I almost made it. I'm glad I didn't because I have lived long enough to see the fruits of my labor. All my children are professionals. My grandchildren are graduating from different colleges or high schools. One of them just passed their probationary period for the fire department and is now a Fireman. I am now the proud great grandmother of two little babies. It was not easy at all. You have to fake it until you make it. I had to make believe that I was a normal well rounded individual. What I do have is a lot of self control and brains. I could hide my pain and the misery inside. My children helped me to live on. When they left is when I had nothing else to live for. Then my grandchildren came along so I hung in there. Now I am ready to go. I am tired. I leave the rest for them. I did what I set out to do. That was to have a family that would live a better life than I did. I have been blessed that way.

And I have been born of the spirit, just as Jesus spoke of in John 3:3, thanks. A water baptism is a display of public faith in Christ Jesus. A water baptism is not required for eternal life. Being born of the Spirit, however, is the only requirement for eternal life. Eternal life comes through faith alone, as we’re saved by faith, not by works of the flesh. Omg no her baby passing absolutely broke every inch of my heart ! I really believe that’s what she needed and wanted in order to do better for herself because it was no longer about her what’s so ever. Now she doesn’t have the baby she’s felt so close to for 9 months and not only that has to go back to the apartment and see everything she set up for her beautiful baby.. heart breaking. PEOPLE NEED TO START LISTENING WHEN THEY SAY SOMETHING DOESN’T FEEL RIGHT, WHEN YOUR BABY IS NO LONGER DOING GOOD. JUST BECAUSE YOU’RE A PRISONER DOESN’T GIVE THEM THE RIGHT TO JUST OVER LOOK THEM! I would definitely find out what doctor I had went to see and set up a law suite especially if she didn’t even want to take a X-ray or ultrasound. Complete bs. I only pray this makes her stronger and she keeps pushing forward and tries to start her family again, I see she would have been so happy with a mini her to look after. She would be a great mama

When I made a mistake that only harmed me (drug abuse) because so many bad things happened to me and the at least 14 suicide attempts didn't worked (and I really tried almost everything that you can imagine) I thought that the only thing thar will surely makes me dying is drug overdose. But it didn't functioned that fast that I thought, so I took every day a much higher amount to get a overdose (I had 6 overdosed in Month, but every time I was unfortunately found and they could bring me back to live (I'm not stupid, I took the overdoses every time when I knew nobody is around or could come, because they were at work, but unfortunately there was always something that a person came houres bevor they should be able to come to me/home. it was every time a different person where I was living and they didn't knew that I wanted to kill myself) So I thought it was the only chance to die (I know the darknet where you can get the medicine for people to get realsed from their pain/peoples that will die soon, I took 3 times more than usual but I only slept for 15 straight and woke up). After 1Week taken Heroin every day to die I got addicted to it and I was for 2Years a Heroin addict. I don't write why I wanted to kill myself so hardly, because no one is interested in that. I am now 12 Years clean, but the only thing people's are interested are when I will start again taken Drugs! I have a Child and work in a Cafeteria as assisted boss. One time in 5 Years I was really sick and my boss sendet my home. The next day I had to go to a appointment to the CPS (in our country we have another name for the CPS) and during the time when the appointment was with the CPS the CPS took my child from the kindergarten and put my child in foster care. It was clearly illegal what the CPS made, but as a Mother that works in a cafeteria an received no penny from the father of the child and has to pay all the pills, food, child care when I was working, the rent, the toys, clothes... I couldn't afford an attorney😢. When you only make one mistake and you are in the system, you will never have a chance to live a normal life....

US prisons need WAY more funding. Especially for mental health workers and DBT skill classes. Money for continuing education/career classes and resources for inmates who are only serving 10 years or less. We are not handling the mental state of these women and that's why they continue to come back and return to their downward spirals. I would love to see prisons deal directly with halfway houses for new releases to have somewhere to go and continue their sobriety and have a place to live and thrive until they are truly ready to make it on their own in the world. Our system is currently fu**** and nothing will change until enough people want it too.

It's been at least half a year now that I don't even get notifications from the people that I'm subscribed to and thus can't find newer vids to watch. It's always the stupid corporation channels that get preferred on the page and your fave content creator literally are buried so deep that I sometimes have to scroll for 10-15 minutes until I get something worth watching. Why is this that nowadays I always get suggested videos that I have already watched? Ah nevermind, I'm happy to watch something I can inform myself from.

Hello. Dear friend. I'm so glad to hear that you have encountered such an incredible correctional officer, BigNell! It's truly inspiring to witness compassion and empathy in law enforcement professionals. It's a testament to the positive impact they can have on individuals and communities. Finding someone who embodies compassion and understanding within their role is truly remarkable. It's not always easy to come across individuals who prioritize empathy and kindness in their line of work. BigNell's dedication to her job and her ability to show compassion is truly commendable. Having compassionate police officers can make a significant difference in people's lives, especially during challenging times. Their ability to approach situations with empathy and understanding can help build trust and foster positive relationships between law enforcement and the community. It's heartening to know that BigNell has left such a positive impression on you. Her actions serve as a reminder that there are individuals within the police force who are committed to making a difference and treating people with kindness and respect. Thank you for sharing your experience with BigNell. It's important to acknowledge and appreciate those who go above and beyond in their roles, making a positive impact on the lives of others. Are the men given opportunities that these women don't receive? or is it another case of treating women like infants, where its only bad when a woman ends up in prison for committing crimes but not men? I get a sense this is just adult daycare. They're not being taught any skills to be useful and earn money. Nor are they being taught how to avoid the people that lead to their poor choices that will end them back in prison. Yet they blame it all on these people being abused. Some are clearly abusing themselves... even while being in prison. These planning sessions seem like just imagining a happy place without the skills to achieve these things. Giving them sabbatical where they can experience their bad patterns too doesn't seem helpful like the first woman that self harmed. Guess this must be minimum security if they're being let out for a day.

@pricewood1284
@pricewood1284 Жыл бұрын
Hello. Dear friend. I hope this message finds you well. I noticed your comment asking about what "smudge" means, and I'm happy to provide some clarification. The term "smudge" can have different meanings depending on the context in which it is used. Here are a few possible interpretations: 1. In the context of art: "Smudge" refers to the act of smearing or blending colors together, often done with a finger or a tool, to create a softer or more blended effect in a drawing or painting. 2. In the context of cleaning: "Smudge" can refer to a mark or streak left behind when something is smeared or rubbed against a surface, such as a fingerprint on a glass or a smudge on a mirror. 3. In the context of spirituality: "Smudging" is a practice found in various cultures, particularly in Native American traditions, where herbs, such as sage or palo santo, are burned to cleanse or purify a space, person, or object. If you provide more details or context about where you encountered the term "smudge," I can offer a more specific explanation. Feel free to share any additional information, and I'll be glad to assist you further. Looking forward to hearing from you soon ❤❤
