Kfftfuftur "except that he ruined his perfectly legitemate progress" Yes, but one of the faces of one of the sides was facing "up" (or "down") the wrong way relative to the surface/face of the other side -- I don't think he could have figured that out without starting over. Anyway, it would be interesting to know if any of the pieces were red herrings in that they would fit a wrong piece if they faced "up" the wrong way.

@TheFlashPod5 жыл бұрын
I think what also makes this so confusing and hard is that you are not used to that each piece has more than 4 possible orientations, actually there are 8. In a conventional jigsaw puzzle you will have a printed and a unprinted side. This fact is missing here wich simply doubles the amount of possible arrangements. Additinally the puzzle has a unique way how the pieces interloce with each other, that also goes against your intuitive way of thinking how a jigsaw puzzle has to work. It makes sense that a child will do much better on this than a grown man who has probably solved a lot of traditional puzzles and is heavily primed in his thoughts. Compliment to the artist! What a beautiful piece of art!

@Trif 55 good thought but if you look at other pieces that aren't part of the outer edge many have flat tops that are less rounded as well. They look very similar to the pieces that do fit along the edge. So it looks like the creator accounted for that little detail.

The sad part of this is that the original part of a solution that he discarded was actually correct. You can see the sides there in the final piece. The part he got tripped up on is the distinction between female and male parts, and sides and not sides. Any distinction or preconceived idea you have about jigsaw puzzles must be eliminated in order to solve this puzzle, and THAT is what makes it so difficult for people, but is why the girl can do it. You can actually see that each end of the 'female side pieces' fit into another piece as if they were a 'male' piece, which is why thinking with rules or physics or logic doesnt totally work. Any and all pieces can be male, female, or a side piece, despite the general 'rules' around jigsaw puzzles. Its oddly inspiring in a bizzare sort of way :>
@littlearies38624 жыл бұрын
Yeah. I started mentally screaming when, at aroung 18:42, he wasnt seeing that one side of the puzzle was going to be inverted. Of course, I probably would have missed it if the puzzle was right in front of me, but doesnt mean I wasnt screaming inside my head. The fact he even mentioned that it was an "illogical" or untraditional puzzle but tried solving it traditionally. Bruh. When you have a puzzle, especially one thats made to be a logical puzzle and not picture-based, you cant really do what you would with a regular one. That defeats the purpose.

I think that the reason most adults can't finish this puzzle and the girl did is because adults 2nd guess themselves a lot, and kids just go with the idea until it's completely wrong. As we grow older we learn from the adults around us to second guess ourselves and to be more aware of things like weight, body type, race, language and other things.

To add, I think the reason why we are more careful and tend to second-guess is because we usually suffer heavier consequences from our failures as adults, and that there's more risk.
