There's a book "The Archimedes Codex" that argues that this puzzle is about trying to calculate how many ways there are to solve it. It's Archimedies dealing with what we now call combinatorics.

This is a great puzzle, and appreciate you sharing. This is the first "puzzle" I've seen that I think I'll get, one for myself and one for my father. My father has Parkinsons and he and I spent some good time over last Christmas playing with some metal puzzles my wife and kids had gotten me because they noticed me watching your channel - playing with the puzzles helps with his motor skills and is a good mental exercise for him, so this one will be exceptionally perfect. Thanks Chris ❤️👍

This video was nostalgic for me. My grandmother had a mini version of one of these on her desk at work and anytime I was off from school I spent the day with her working on finding different solutions. I worked on it from age 8 to 13 (just a few days a year), kept a little notebook recording my progress, and found only about 50 solutions. Wish I had a smartphone in 1990 to make the process easier. Lol. Congrats on 4m subs, Chris.

It is supposed to be called "Ostomachion", meaning bone-fight, as in a game that used to be played with bones, instead of "Stomachion" which means stomach and is a bad translation that has been accepted as the closest one that modern day people, not willing enough to research, can relate to.

Chris, It would be fun if you challenged each of your friends to solve the Stomachion Puzzle and document the different solutions found. Also, can I suggest that when you fail to solve a puzzle, that instead of opening up the directions, you keep it as an unsolved puzzle and trade your unsolved puzzles with your other puzzle friends for their unsolved puzzles. There's some really good lock picking videos where they do this.

This puzzle was great. And the sounds coming from the pieces as you placed them in the frame was very satisfying...atleast for me....is that weird?!?! Definitely one of my faves!!💯🤙🏽

Always want to play along with the puzzles but not buy them. But fortunately this one is possible to find! And I solved it in about 5 minutes lol. Gonna see if i can find another solution now before the video ends... It was close... took about 11 minutes this time! Amazing puzzle, you can really tell how the pieces are made to fit in many different ways

I love this kind of tangram puzzles. Yes you may be correct in that the designer decided to just cut pieces out and then a mathmatician did the calculus involving the geometry of the pieces to know the total of possible solutions, based on area and etc.
