I am from Germany and i can explain some of the Crazy Chicken Stuff. It is called Moorhuhn here and it was pretty popular as a game you sent to collegues on the job. It even has its own song( its called gimme gimme mohr huhn) . Its was very popular in germany and they still try to milk the franchise. Tbh the first games were simple but fun, since the have a lot of secrets

Also, the footage in the beginning of this video looks almost identical to the Moorhuhn Game i played on my dad's Computer 20 years ago. But I therefore wouldn't really call it shovelware, instead it's just a port of an old game.

@@Schlecknits It's actually from a remake of the original game. By this point that remake is also pretty old and it's the base for all modern ports of the first game.

For what it's worth, there is actually a way to browse the Switch eShop by game genre, you just have to do a little searching. And by that I mean there's a section in the "Search/Browse" tab that lets you sort games by their tagged genre.

It's sad how much they milked Moorhuhn and made it into a throwaway joke on current gen. It really used to be HELLA popular around Germany, Czech, Poland. There was multiple installments, christmas, haloween editions, we LOVED it. Each one also had tons of easter eggs, urban legends we used to whisper around in school, like "Hey did you know that if you shoot the church bell 10 times and then shoot the Snowman's head, fireworks will start??". The OG games truly had heart in them.

Whats really scummy about data design interactive platformers is that originally it was gonna be a reboot of the cult classic 16 bit platformer zool. but the rightsholders rejected the pitch because of quality concerns, instead of scrapping the game they literally split thier already made prototype into several other games so ninjabreadman was world 1 of zool prototype trixie in toyland was another world, ect. There are even files left over in the game that reference these other worlds that match up with other ddi platformers themes.

How to solve the problem: allow us to 'hide' games from certain developers. EG: Highlight the game, press a button, choose "hide games from this developer". Done.

My sister bought Crazy Chicken X for the PS2 back in 2007 thinking it would be a 3D Platformer kind of game. Even at the age of 10 or so, she was disappointed in it. Didn’t learn her lesson though as she bought Ninjabread Man on the Wii less than a year later.

I come back to Moorhuhn every now and then for fun. On PC the first 3 games are German classics, short and fun. The Kart one was just a logical thing with its popularity here in Germany. Similar to Doom and installed on nearly every PC at work. I could it play when visiting my dad at work in his office. With the end of the PlayStation Moorhuhn X came out and the hype was over. Every now and then I spot a releaseand think to myself "that still exist?" You cant get the Moorhuhn killed regulardless of how bad the games are. It survived even its publisher that went into shady business.

I agree with your video pretty much entirely. I just want to carve out a space for something I've wanted for a long time. There is nothing inherently wrong with a developer who using the same engine and mechanics to deliver new content in a game. While this is a cost-saving measure that can be abused, it is also a opportunity to focus on that content and make a richer story, better art/sound, etc. I've often wanted more games like this and for them to be given more respect. Diablo 2 is my best example of this. That engine could have had dozens of additional acts where they just made new stories, added new areas and new loot and I would have bought them all. So good games can be identical in function, provided its used to deliver quality in the form.

A form of quality control really is required, especially with the growth and accessibility of AI, which many developers can use to put out games even faster. Then, you also have the KZbinrs who want to play these games just so they can get some views of them, so there is clearly a demand for these games, earning money to the storefront owners. For me, the Nintendo Switch eShop is the worst offender with its lack of filtering.

GoG has the best refund policy and also they're very strict with quality control so there is no shovelware. Plus all the games are DRM free. The Galaxy launcher is also the best, you can boot up games from different launchers from there.

Xbox store has a great refund policy and typically shovelware games aren't promoted but I still know plenty of achievement hunters who intentionally looks for these trash games.

These shovelware games are out of control, especially over the past year - on PlayStation there are like a handful of developers that are responsible for destroying the trophy system due to how they make their trophy lists where you can get the platinum trophy in like 5 minutes, then split that trophy lists into 6 across different regions. The people that buy these games think that total number of trophies is still an impressive stat, the same stat these very games have destroyed the value of. These "games" are basically asset flips that are released every few days and cranked out constantly now. But if Sony (and other console makers) are allowing it, how can you blame the developers? They're cashing out! I blame Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo completely, they're turning their storefronts into a trash dump. Is it the 30% cut the console makers get with each unit sold causing them to not do anything? Who knows Also the solution is not hiding these games, it's no longer allowing games like this and only allowing games with a certain quality limit, not allowing more than x number of titles published a year, and no longer allowing small games to have platinum trophies - there is no reason these games should be on the stores, and that includes for trophy hunters
