Arceus is more like Lugia is to Articuno, Zapdos, and Moltres... and Ho-oh is to the legendary beasts in Johto. There is another quartet with the swords of justice: Cobalion, Terrakion, Virizion and Keldeo. Keldeo's status as a mythical doesn't keep it from the group because it is "in training" and not above the group in rank.

Kiwi here, gotta day I like lockstins thinking about the New Zealand stuff (and his attempts at trying to say Maori names) but some of the points got me thinking about something. So, I was just thinking about the whole duality thing and my brain just clicked on this thought. Lugia (master of the oceans, depicted as swimming and staying below water) is considered the master of the legendary birds who remain in the sky. Ho oh on the other hand is the rainbow bird, ever present in the sky and is the master of the legendary beasts, earth bound large cats. The two are opposites and a duality of each other, one where the legendary at the center of it is in the opposite area of those it resides over. But this also got me thinking, why did we only get paradox forms of legendary beasts in this generation? Well cause in the generation prior we got our legendary birds, once again they were released a generation apart from each other, the birds first and the beasts second. This is also very loose in terms of what's applicable but the master of these new birds appears to be Calyrex, an emporer, while the master of the new beasts appears to be Terapagos, the world treasure and turtle.

Quick addition to the whole Portugal being the only nation to have contact with Japan until Britain and the US forced Japan to open up. The Netherlands also had some diplomatic and trade relations with Japan since 1609 and ended in 1858 when Japan concluded the Treaty of Kanagawa with the US. This is a bit of a loose thread connected to Japanese trade history but there might be some fun connection to be made with it. I loved the video either way. 40:30 I'd like to add to that connection between Polynesia and South America. There is a story of an Inca who is said to have travelled to (at least) Mangareva and Eastern Island. According to some Spanish cronistas, Tupac Yupanqui went on a 2-3 year expedition to the Pacific Ocean and came back with slaves, fur from exotic animals and strange tools. There's also some evidence on those two islands that support this theory. There's the legend of "King Tupa" in Mangareva, who arrived from the middle of the sea and introduced metals to the island, and in Eastern Island there're mentions of a "Mahuna-te Ra'á" (Son of the Sun). Lastly, the Ahu Vinapu on Eastern Island is a stone structure built very similarly to the stone walls on Sacsayhuaman, Cusco. Most likely there were other people from the Incan empire who travelled to those islands, but there's only a record of the expedition of Tupac Yupanqui because he was a very important person.

Okay, this might be a lot based off a one off comment, but you mentioning how the paradox swords are golems could explain how all the future paradox Pokémon work. In the future, Pokémon are fully extinct, completely, except ghost type Pokémon- they can’t die they’re already dead- so would it be so far fetched that the future paradox Pokémon are the few that survive in ghosts that now possess these man made machines that they accepted because it’s was the closest thing they could find to their old bodies

ok, so the inca had god who existed kinda in pairs to fufill the nature of duality, and terapagos takes inspiration from them, and there might be two terapagos, one male, and one female to also fufill duality, and terapagos is the fifth treasure of ruin, then maybe it was sealed for the actions of its counterpart. While both are perhaps capable of the same things, the other used its power for more disaterous things at some point, which is why it was sealed/is a treasure of ruin while our terapagos may not be "evil", people still saw a terapagos and treated it as they did the other treasures of ruin.

I actually think Gholdengo is the elemental metal based on the Gimmighoul dex entry sounding like its tied to the traveling merchant that brought the Ruinous Quartet to Paldea. As per what Raifort teaches in History class. They all seem to represent a different aspect of sha chi as well as their element.

I just had a crazy theory that came to be after you discussed duality and the Incas seeing a godly and mortal counterpart for each other: could Terapagos being the earthly, mortal counterpart to Arceus? Both have a lot of things in common, mainly Normal Type as their base Type and their ability to use the power of all 18 Types, and even a 19th one. Terapagos introduced the Stellar Type as a Tera-based type that utilizes the power of all Types in one, boosting the Type of a move of once. There is also Tera Blast and Tera Starstorm, the latter being Terapagos’s signature move. Starting off, they are normal type, but when Terastalized, it can change its Type into the Pokémon’s chosen Tera Type and that chosen Tera Type can also boost the power of a move of the same Type. Meanwhile, with Arceus, it can change its Type into any of the 18 Types with its Plates, and the Plates themselves also boosting the power of a move that corresponds to Type it represents when being held by another Pokemon. It can also change the typing of Arceus’s signature move, Judgement, into that of the same Type. Prior to Legends Arceus, there were only 17 plates, with Arceus not needing one for Normal as its base Type (with the as of then Pixie Plate as the final one revealed in Kalos, which we are going back to Legends Z-A). But in Legends Arceus, we got the Blank Plate that represents Normal, and finally the 19th Plate, the Legend Plate, one that uses the power of all 18 Types, changing Arceus’s Judgement into the Type most super effective against its opponent. Also, this 19th Plate, on it had the depiction that looks like a shining Star and was revealed in the game prior to Gen 9. Quite the Stellar coincidence. Both Tera Starstorm and Judgement even have similar vibes to them, both shooting energy into the sky, often via a pillar of energy, and then crash it down onto the opponent like meteors. Both also have abilities relating to Time and Space. Arceus not only created the Pokemon universe but also directly created Dialga and Palkia, Time and Space, and also transported our character into the past of Hisui in Legends Arceus. Meanwhile, Terapagos has shown its ability to mess with time and space, plucking Paradox Pokémon from their respective timelines into Area Zero, and even transporting the real and then alive Professor Sada/Turo from the past into the Crystal Lake of Kitakami, transporting them not just from a different point in time but also space. The two also have shown omnipresent abilities, with Arceus obviously watching down on us from the Hall of Origins in the Heavens, but Terapagos is rumored to do something similar. In each of the 18 Tera Crowns, at the base of the crown are a pair of eyes, eyes that look the same as the Terapagos figure in the Stellar crown. This has been theorized to be Terapagos looking through the eyes of the Terastalized Pokemon, viewing the world through them even it’s dormant state, helpfully hypothesized via the fact that each of the 18 crowns represent their individual Type via weird and random objects instead of abstract ones, like modern balloons and a bulb to represent Flying and Electric, a chandelier to represent Fire instead of just a fire itself, or an axe to represent Steel, things that Terapagos might have saw to relate to the 18 types. They have similar and even contrasting elements to them too. Both have relations with multicolors like a rainbow and jewels, like in the Pokemon movie, Arceus and the Jewel of life, where the Jewel is the combination of five different Plates, with the Plates in that movie looking like multicolored jewels, not too dissimilar to the Tera Crystals, and even in the game who is to say that Plates themselves aren’t in fact jewels. Then there is the Heaven and Earth duality motif with them, with Arceus representing the Heavens, outer space, the Stars even, and it’s godly, immortal power where Terapagos represents more of the Earth, based on the World Turtle, having an entire region vaguely shaped like it, it residing in the caves underneath Area Zero, and it’s Stellar Form having it stand on a what looks like a piece of globe, with it wearing a crown like a king, but what is a king to a god? Fun Fact: each of Arceus’s Plates have descriptions on them, with Legends giving us a unique one for each of them. For the Sky Plate, it reads ‘The being poured the remains it’s power into stone and buried it deep’. While this could be seen as the Plates themselves, the Earth Plate reads ‘When the universe was created, it’s shards became this Plate’ and the Flame Plate famously reads ‘The power of defeated giants infuses this Plate’. The Earth Plate seems to suggest that the leftover energy of Arceus creating the universe was then turned by the Alpha Pokemon into the Plates and how they are infused by these ‘giants’. So, then what remains of Arceus’s own power, not the universe’s shards, were turned to stone and blasted into the ground? Could it be the Tera Crystals and Terapagos itself? Could this act have been what created Terapagos and Area Zero as whole, as giant impact crater from Arceus itself that which created the Tera Crystals as well? It could explain why a random tree is the Underdepths, probably a tree that was crystallized by Arceus’s power into that of the newly formed Tera Crystals all over. And it’s funny how the info that comes from these Plates come from the Sky Plate, the Heavens, and the ‘Earth’ Plate, where the Flame Plate is then representing Fire, a form of energy, the gift in which Prometheus gave to the mortals from stealing it from the gods, linking Heaven and Earth, two sides of coin, much like it could be with Arceus and Terapagos. One the Pure, Original, and Alpha from The Heavens and the other the Many, All-Aspect, Multitude of The Earth.

I think the sealing symbol for the Treasures of Ruin is a hint towards the story of humans sealing pokemon/the history of the modern pokeball... which is why the seal looks like a pokeball. The Loyal Three are also bound to a physical location and only released when a human with strong emotions makes physical contact, Kieran's passion frees them just like how his frustration helps to pull Terapagos.

39:36 As a New Zealander, can I help with the pronunciation? My sister's been helping me touch up on Māori, or Te Reo as I've learned it should be called. Lockstin's pretty good with Pacific Island words, like in the Alolan fossil video, and he nailed Manawatū (where my mum lives, hi mum!), but in Te Reo 'wh' is said like a f, so Whanganui is a bit like 'FUNG-ah-noo-ee'. Dude basically had it! He got Aotearoa pretty close too, just the first syllable's more like you stubbed your toe. 'OW!-tay-ah-RO-ah'. Info you didn't ask for are wiser for knowing (: Edit: Forgot to add, 'Māori' is usually a hard word to get right, I'm New Zealandic and still struggle a bit, but once again Lockstin said it pretty damn well! Even slightly rolling the r. The macron on the a just means you say the 'ah' sound a bit longer before moving on the the o, similar to if it was written 'Maaori'. But yeah, love it when Lockstin references this side of the Pacific!

Pokémon has informed so much of how I approach my D&D worldbuilding. Pulling from dozens of cultures and concepts to create something that is both new but also recognizable to those who know where things are drawing from. I also love "on the nose" naming conventions similar to Pokemon, where I will mash qualities/features of a place/person to sound like a new word that's really just a mash or bastardization of the origin words

Something I'd like to mention is the Japanese folktale connection with The Teal Mask referencing to Momotaro, and it's pretty obvious The Indigo Disk has links to the Tale of Urashima Taro and the Dragon Palace (Blueberry, possibly also Area Zero Underdepths) which might be the inspiration for Terapagos's time powers. The Glimmet line has to tie into this too. They even share both their regular and shiny colours with Terapagos.
