So it appears that from 58:00-59:43 you needed to vent some frustration against Creationism and Christianity by relating the tale of the Ica Stones into your beautifully woven web of PokéLore, and portraying the Creationists specifically as the villains of that account. While you are entitled to your own opinions and worldview, and it is true that it looks bad for Christian scientists in the '60s and '70s to have fallen for such an obvious tourist trap scam, it is not fair to claim that Young Earth Creationism "ruined" dinosaurs for everyone by suggesting that they existed at the same time as humans 6000 years ago. Science is all about discovery and having differing theories compete with each other for veracity and relevance! Basically, I just take offense at you portraying Christianity as unfun clueless losers who can't get with the times just because of one time when we made a big error in judgement. Another point to mention about the 5 elements are that they’re all weak to each or the legendary’s types, reinforcing that they’re opposite. “Metal” is weak to fire (chi-yu) “Fire” is weak to ground (Ting Lu) “Earth” is weak to water (Terapagos) “Wood” is weak to ice (Chien-pao) “Water” is weak to grass (Wo-chien) Only 10 minutes in so this may be talked about later. Kiwi here, gotta day I like lockstins thinking about the New Zealand stuff (and his attempts at trying to say Maori names) but some of the points got me thinking about something. So, I was just thinking about the whole duality thing and my brain just clicked on this thought. Lugia (master of the oceans, depicted as swimming and staying below water) is considered the master of the legendary birds who remain in the sky. Ho oh on the other hand is the rainbow bird, ever present in the sky and is the master of the legendary beasts, earth bound large cats. The two are opposites and a duality of each other, one where the legendary at the center of it is in the opposite area of those it resides over. But this also got me thinking, why did we only get paradox forms of legendary beasts in this generation? Well cause in the generation prior we got our legendary birds, once again they were released a generation apart from each other, the birds first and the beasts second. This is also very loose in terms of what's applicable but the master of these new birds appears to be Calyrex, an emporer, while the master of the new beasts appears to be Terapagos, the world treasure and turtle.

42:47 I think people consider the legendary beasts as dogs despite their inspirations being large cats is because their designs remind people of specific dog species Entei looking like a Bulldog Suicune looking like a greyhound Meanwhile Raikou in isolation most people would say is inspired by sabertooth tigers, but when lumped with Entei and Suicune people go “if Entei and Suicune look like dogs then Raikou must be some type of Golden Retriever or other ‘generic dog’ species” (Probably a side effect of Entei being in the third Pokemon movie, Suicune being both in the fourth Pokemon movie and box legendary of Crystal, and Raikou only ever being depicted as part of the trio)

According to some Spanish cronistas, Tupac Yupanqui went on a 2-3 year expedition to the Pacific Ocean and came back with slaves, fur from exotic animals and strange tools. There's also some evidence on those two islands that support this theory. There's the legend of "King Tupa" in Mangareva, who arrived from the middle of the sea and introduced metals to the island, and in Eastern Island there're mentions of a "Mahuna-te Ra'á" (Son of the Sun). Lastly, the Ahu Vinapu on Eastern Island is a stone structure built very similarly to the stone walls on Sacsayhuaman, Cusco. Most likely there were other people from the Incan empire who travelled to those islands, but there's only a record of the expedition of Tupac Yupanqui because he was a very important person.

It's kinda funny watching this whole video and being like "So basically Paldea is just central and south America just transplanted over the ocean" with how much everything from the starters to like half of the mons to the paradox pokemon and the legendaries all tie back to the indigenous cultures. Hell the fact that MTG thought enough to include dinosaurs (past paradox) and golems (future paradox) in the native's designs shows how on track that line of thinking is. Makes you wonder how much is left for a potential south American region when so much already went into Paldea.

ok, so the inca had god who existed kinda in pairs to fufill the nature of duality, and terapagos takes inspiration from them, and there might be two terapagos, one male, and one female to also fufill duality, and terapagos is the fifth treasure of ruin, then maybe it was sealed for the actions of its counterpart. While both are perhaps capable of the same things, the other used its power for more disaterous things at some point, which is why it was sealed/is a treasure of ruin while our terapagos may not be "evil", people still saw a terapagos and treated it as they did the other treasures of ruin.

39:36 As a New Zealander, can I help with the pronunciation? My sister's been helping me touch up on Māori, or Te Reo as I've learned it should be called. Lockstin's pretty good with Pacific Island words, like in the Alolan fossil video, and he nailed Manawatū (where my mum lives, hi mum!), but in Te Reo 'wh' is said like a f, so Whanganui is a bit like 'FUNG-ah-noo-ee'. Dude basically had it! He got Aotearoa pretty close too, just the first syllable's more like you stubbed your toe. 'OW!-tay-ah-RO-ah'. Info you didn't ask for are wiser for knowing (: Edit: Forgot to add, 'Māori' is usually a hard word to get right, I'm New Zealandic and still struggle a bit, but once again Lockstin said it pretty damn well! Even slightly rolling the r. The macron on the a just means you say the 'ah' sound a bit longer before moving on the the o, similar to if it was written 'Maaori'. But yeah, love it when Lockstin references this side of the Pacific!

1:05:18 You know it's funny how Akihabra ganined its title of "Electric Town" for its association with cutting and bleeding edge technology but at some point in the 2000s or early to mid 2010s, it turned into more of an otaku haven (though I'm guessing it and the presently similarly otaku-oriented Nakano Broadway were foodie havens since the "economic miracle" started)

10:43 wasn't that the Dutch?
@peperoni_pepino7 ай бұрын
Yeah, I was wondering how he repeatedly mentioned the Portuguese trade with Japan and the USA/UK gunboat diplomacy, but never mentioned the Dutch. I'm pretty sure the period between the Portuguese where kicked out for trying to convert the locals and the gunboat was Dutch trade, with the Dutch (and secretly Germans, since the Japanese couldn't tell the difference) bringing modern medicine etc. to Japan.
@kayschut93275 ай бұрын
He's correct at that timestamp, makes a slight mistake near the end of the video. The Portuguese were at first their sole trade partners until, as peperoni_pepino stated, they tried to forcefully convert the Japanese to Christianity. Being Protestants, the Dutch were not really a fan of the Portuguese at the time, and helped the Japanese kick them out. By doing this they were in the good graces of the Emperor and basically took over the position of trade partners. This also led to what was called Rangaku, basically Dutch Studies, and Yōgaku (Western Studies)
