When I am entering equations (at 0:49) I am unable to enter the fraction. In addition, to the far left of the calculator display, i dont see a small line. Instead, i have a series of arrows I can chose from. Why is this? thanks for the very informative content! :)

To be able to use fractions, your TI-84 has to have "MathPrint". See this link for more detail: www.dropbox.com/s/ux2y3l7wcm8dt3a/Fractions%20on%20the%20TI-84.pdf?dl=0 To take care of the series of arrows you are seeing on the left side of the screen, I would clear the RAM. Do this by hitting "2nd" "Mem", then select "7: Reset". After that select "1: All RAM". Finally, select "2: Reset". Once it clears the RAM, you should be able to go back into the "Y=" section and see all lines to the far left.

I agree not all features of the TI-84 are the most optimal, but the TI guys have managed to corner the market with standardized testing and the College Board.
