Thank you so much for this explanation. It was so clear! Could you help me with this one: Sin(5x)/sin(3x)=sin(4x)/sin(8x)? Thank you very much!

if your looking for the general solution cant you just do pi/3 + 2pi(k), where k equals all real integers
@iRvinCKF115
@iRvinCKF115 12 жыл бұрын
is there any way to work out the number of solutions in a general case? like the number of solutions for A.sin(B.x+C)+D=0 where A,B,C,D are random constants within the range of [-10,10]. This is for developing a computer aided assessment for my university final year project. Thanks in advance!

How did you get 5pi/3 after the pi/3? I don't get how you get it?

In the first problem, why do you add 2pi if there if a restriction?
@mustafayasmeen
@mustafayasmeen 8 жыл бұрын
+Victoria Gainey The restriction wouldn't apply there. The only time a restriction would apply is if the inverse cosine/sine/tangent is what the problem starts with, but because we are in the middle of solving an equation the restriction wouldn't apply. It's kinda funky, but that's just how it is! Hope I helped!

my teacher tried to teach us this in 2 days but i still dont get it. She said something about finding the period in order to know how many solutions we have to find, but I dont understand how. Then she solved this problem: tan(3x)=1 and I thought you had to draw the triangle in QI and QIII so Tangent would be positive, but she only did it w/QI, y? Please help me

I think keeping the solutions + 2(pi)(n) is more accurate because it accounts for the infinite cycles

wouldnt 5pi/3 be for negative have cuz its on the left side of the unit circl and on the left side cos is negative... im confused... plz someone explain this to me
@moohapple12
@moohapple12 8 жыл бұрын
+EntertainYourselfTV no because 5pi/3 is how many rotations you make around on the unit circle. first pi, then another 2pi/3.
@Harsh-sm5rz
@Harsh-sm5rz 7 жыл бұрын
EntertainYourselfTV It's a late reply but anyways 5pi/3 is basically 300 degrees and is on the right side of the unit circle. 4th quadrant to be more specific. and in the 4th quadrant cos is always positive!😊

2pi - 2pi/3 will get you 4pi/3, and 2pi - pi/3 = 5pi/3

He's solving for theta. 2(theta) = pi/3 is the same thing as solving for x. (2x = pi/3).

Tricia Dobson As we need solutions for theta... We multiplied by 1/2 on both the sides

it’s like you are solving for x but you have 2x on one side , so you have to divide both sides by 2 but Patrick prefers multiplying by 1/2 instead of dividing by 2
