Thank You Vlad Kreimer for such an important and amazing instrument that the Lyra-8 is. I am a 74 year young woman and appreciate what a blessed gift you have provided me with, in the lyra-8. Your work is providing a clearing of space for expressions of hope, peace, sadness, and grief in such a troubled world... I think that you are a prophet in the nonlinear, changing with your instrument's voices, our existence in this world for the better. I remain always amazed and grateful for your time and work for us in this most important matter. Thank You.

Watching this with my Lyra-8 in front of me was an absolute delight. This box is somehow immediately intuitive while still being an absolute mystery and I love it so much.

Glad it helps! I will record my own Lyra tutorial one day. Also I recommend watching Loopop's review/tutorial on his synths channel.

A genuinely unpredictable device that can send you either soaring to ethereal planes, or diving into the pits of darkness in one performance. I absolutely love mine. Thank you Vlad for the detailed explanation. 🎥

Exactly, the Lyra opens endless possibilities. Might be intimidating at first, but like a helicopter if you can fly it will make wonders))

Very interesting about the vibrato. Didn't know it modulated each group of voices differently 😮👍🏻

Bought a used one today. Absolutely blown away by its unique sound capabilities and the ways it can be played. Lovely creation.

It's amazing you adopted a Lyra from someone who gave up on it. It's like adopting a shy cat from a shelter who then turns out to be the most amazing special cat. Or ferret.

I played this on Superbooth 23 and I had no idea how this thing works... The outcome was not very deterministic, but on the journey I came along some very special sounds... I wish I had watched this video beforehand... great sounding instrument...

Yea, definitely one of those instruments where you should read the fine manual first ;-) I got my 1st Lyra four years ago, it was also my first Soma instrument, and it revolutionized my music, freeing me from the jail of piano-like keyboards.

Fully agree, Lyra revolutionised my music in 2019 and gave the wings to give up midi and slowly abandon keyboards altogether.

Thanks, this is excellent! I was confused about the central switch 34>56 78>12 because I thought 78>12 was the down position - but Vlad clarified it here. Amazing instrument from an innovative creator.

Yes, you can play it for years and still learn new things. When you just remember the sound is alive in there and if you can anticipate what every knob will do, considering the virtually infinite combinations for driving the sound, you just know it's an instrument for a lifetime. If you have effectors behind it, it's usually a good idea to have a raw output from the headphones output in one ear and the end result in the other ear, so you can monitor changes live before they exit from the effects chain.

Pretty much the best, "down to earth" all around explanation of LYRA-8. You nailed it Vlad!!
Жыл бұрын
He nailed it when he designed the instrument. The manual is a smooth read, but the teaching from the designer is invaluable. I'm so blessed I got a chance to film these discussions!

@ First a big "thank you" for filming, which means also collaborating with Vlad, because we got the privilage of you filming and Vlad talking, which is better than any manual so you ARE now part of LYRA development. And Vlad gave us the very best description of what we can do with it. On the other hand , explaining TERRA, in one other segment, kzbin.info/www/bejne/Y5jHeIB4opejpck came from his Spiritual Angle (my modest opinion) but it is new for him too, I believe so. Thanks man!!

to ship to Canada, try to find a 2nd hand Lyra from Europe, will ship easily, or ask Soma Poland if they got a new one in stock.

@ I finally bought it in Canada and what can I say.... I think I got a new girlfriend or something or someone here; t's absolute living creature, a beast of possibilities, I'm already using it on a top of all, as an effects unit for Moog Taurus, DFAM, etc. Pairs well with Strymon Nightsky!

I am curious, @Benoit Mussche, at 29:16, what have you done there to lyra? Did you use a mic& voice into the CV Voice input?
Жыл бұрын
Oh no, that's when I had left the Lyra on overnight, and then revealed the sound that was alive within. You can watch the original video here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/bn-9YpaCfs2hirs with full description

Is it correct, that when the modulation switch is set to LFO/FB, the Mod knob does not 100% close the Mod signal when set to full CCW? It always bleeds a bit?
2 ай бұрын
you should never put the MOD knobs to 100%, it leads to chaotic results. That's valid for the top MOD knobs and for the track's MOD knobs as well
@studio48nl
@studio48nl 2 ай бұрын
@ I meant the MOD knobs at 0%, which results in full (100%} close. On my unit the MOD still bleeds through.

really wanted to watch this but unfortunately the bad filming is unwatchable :(

This was actually a fairly improvised session, originally we had a meeting but didn't even discuss of filming it. I just started to film because I was too lazy to takes notes, then noticed it was actually material for publication. You can just watch your Lyra and listen and try the knobs as you listen. Hundreds of Lyra users have found this tutorial valuable. In fact, it has one of the most gems in any tutorial for the Lyra, and I'm not bragging, it's just because the creator of the instrument himself is explaining it, and in a little different approach than in the manual.
