This is a delicate video for me.
There are still the birds, but after KZbin recommended me A LOT of ‪@SuzanneCiani‬ recent performances and workshops, I had to try my way with the sea on the SOMA Pulsar-23, and while not fascinating as the quadraphonic Buchla version, I am pretty satisfied with the result.
Adding the piano was a bold decision.
Within synth/modular stuff everything can be justified by calling it experimental, ambient, noise, and so on; on piano, there is no place to hide.
It's been quite a while since I hesitated before releasing the video, because I feel a deeper connection with the music presented here; feels more like a released song, rather than a "jam".
To me, this video is yet another testament to the direction I am going, further and sideways from the previous one featuring the birds, and I am pretty excited for what the future, the opportunities, and the connections, hold.
Do you want to buy the synth you see in this video?

this is so delicate and intimate..............an awesome combination of textures, tones, and the motif...........................................as a side note, back when I was a touring keyboard player in the 80's, I went to Suzanne's studio in NYC when I was in town, and we swapped some DX7 patches, etc...............it was so great to meet such a legendary talent, in her private zone.................(good thing you didn't get an incoming call when you were recording this)........all around: awesome!!!!

So the pulsar is making the bird sounds? Love the mysteriously haunting vibes of the keys!

Exactly! Pulsar gives all the ambience, with waves, raindrops plucking and the birds. I am so happy with the result, something I go back to listen to from time to time (and that doesn't happen often with my own recordings!)

Lovely track Dexba. Loved the playing and the Rhodes vibe on this. I really like where you're heading. I myself had a lot of time on my hands these past months as I quit my job to move to another city and started working from home with only one client as for now, and I could see my music evolving during that time. It's a bit stressful but definitely great to have some more time for music. It shows here!
@Dexba

What an honour 🧡 Thank you so much. The Rhodes sound is a key to the soul, I don't know how else I could describe it. Still couldn't find anything that couldn't benefit even from a small amount of Rhodes. I get you completely, I am in the exact same situation, holding on to some previous clients which I am working with remotely, and I probably even fear the day I will be back at work full time, because that would break the delicate equilibrium I seem to be finding these last weeks. We'll see. As for now, I feel grateful for this $200 fake Rhodes in front of this little view from my 40sqm apartment: I feel like I'm in the movie "Rear Window" and the keyboard is my binocular 🙏🏻 Thank you again!

What a fabulous, delicate little moment! Beautiful improvisation which does seem to capture some of what you wrote about in the description very very well. I particularly liked what you said about having nowhere to hide with a piano. Bravo and best wishes in your new city x

Thank you so, so much for your words 🧡 Now that I am getting more confident on the piano, the next step will be getting back to my roots: cello. That will be fun, and I will probably live the experience with less "impostor syndrome". Thank you so much again, and let's see where this city leads me 🙏🏻

Thank you so much 🧡 And yes, it is indeed a Casio CT-S1, a lovely, simple but elegant keyboard. I think the only reason why these Casio are not more widespread is their - generally speaking - a bit toyish look, and the same happens to many of their watches; if people can go past that, they can find that this S1 sounds honestly GREAT, for $200, in a world where the Yamaha Reface CP costs $350 and it's not even comparable in features. Keep rocking your Casio, it's older than me 😄

That's an amazing description! 🧡 As for the instruments, I brought the Pulsar-23 with me from Italy, and bought the Casio in VN. Unfortunately, there are no shops carrying these "strange" instruments in Vietnam, so even when I bought some stuff, I had to order it from abroad (and deal with the lovely Vietnamese customs)

@@chilluminare Oh that Pulsar looks amazing. I would love to collect them all, if it wasn't for the price 😁 And the Misha seems like a refreshing take on pitch sequencing, I would love to try it in the future. At the moment I am chasing an almost-exclusive Instruo case ;)

Is the microcosm effecting the mod synth or the piano? Both? Beautiful performance! I loved it.
@Dexba
@Dexba 2 жыл бұрын
At first, I wanted to use it on the Pulsar, to enhance the birds chirping, but the CXM1978 was quite dull for the piano, so I switched to CXM for the Pulsar (it just needed the space to be convincing as ambience), and Microcosm for the piano, for a subtle "spicy reverb" kind of effect 😄 Oh and also: thank you so much, I am glad you liked it 🧡

Ok, so what are we listening here exactly?? What is being triggered automatically on the synth and what are you playing out of the 4 voices??
@Dexba
@Dexba 10 ай бұрын
That's a great question ;) Pulsar-23 is making all the background/base layer, with one voice used for a sort of sea-like waves coming and going, then there is some plucking and birds (you can find this patch in the official Pulsar-23 patchbook as "Rainforest"). On top of that, I am playing the piano, with its own sound!
