Somali elders report 'devastating' rise in fentanyl use, overdose deaths among young people

Somali elders in the Twin Cities are sounding the alarm over a rise in fentanyl use and related overdose deaths that they say is “devastating the community.”
Use of the deadly opioid has grown most rapidly among young adults, roughly between the ages of 17 and 35 years old, according to Hassanen Mohamed, the executive director of the Minnesota Somali Community Center.

Somalia speaks cushitic but Cushitic is not a race or an ethnicity, it is a language. Somalis do have DNA similar to West Africans, thus they would be labeled black

Regardless of you Google searching DNA origin percentages, they are very homogenous in culture and ethnic features. It's like reading stats on Asians and pretending it's representative of Hmong stats because you think they look close enough.

@@user-tm8jt2py3d Ethnicity has nothing to do with race. Race is a genetics. Ethnicity simply is a cultural entity. They may not want to be labeled black but they are. If we are to use Ethnicity as a definition then white people would be able to claim differences based on where their ancestors originated from, thus whites could be broken down into Scandinavian, Germanic, Slavic. The French could calm Celts or Gauls. Of course Italians and Spaniards.

You said that they are West African when Somalia is in the East, and their genetics are Eurasian and East African. Young people in the Somali Community have hard. Their parents are Somali Americans but may only know the old ways. They want to instill cultural values in these kids with the West being "bad". These kids are both American and Somali. Who teaches them to navigate the fine line? No one! They have it rough. The problem has been seen, and now solutions need to be made, seeing as though THIS is really happening in all communities, not just "American".

It's time to remove the shame and stigma from this illness and try to figure out how to attack this epidemic that is swallowing ALL of us whole. Meanwhile, the Chinese (chemicals) and Cartels in South America are making Billions off of this crap. I'd like to see us fight the war on this Fentanyl Epidemic religiously!

We SHOULD be rooting for law enforcement. But we have a government that's working against them and prosecutors that won't prosecute because of skin-color concerns. "It wouldn't be fair"
