Thank you! My first somatic yoga practice. I was a faithful yogi for several years. Then in 2020 I was diagnosed with breast cancer and underwent chemo, surgery and radiation. I’m now cancer free but here I am, 4 years later and do no exercise at all. I’ve tried to get back to some form of exercise with no luck. I decided to try somatic yoga. My body has been wound tight like a spring for the past few years. I felt the tension releasing. Thank you!

Thank you for this. You are my first exposure to somatic yoga and I am sold. My hips are so tight but I felt the more u focused on connecting and letting go there was hope that my body could unwind. This will be a daily moment of self care for me!
@YogawithRachel6 ай бұрын
Hi there 🤗 You're so welcome! Yes, there is hope 💚 I've experienced firsthand how somatic practices can help soften chronically "tight" or tense areas. Somatic practices invite the brain and body to communicate with one another, which can help build new neural pathways. Basically, this conversation between the two tells the brain that there's another option to take - ease and relaxation. I love that this will be a daily self-care practice for you! You may find my somatic yoga for the hips practice useful in your journey. Feel free to explore that practice if it feels good! Thank you for being here. Have an awesome rest of your day, and take care 🙏😊

Thanks! I have tension in jaw now. I liked drawing small circles with my crown in easy pose and imagining it is drawing a color on the ceiling(I chose blue).
@YogawithRachel8 ай бұрын
Hi Tristan! You are most welcome 🤗 I'm sorry to hear about the tension in your jaw. Gentle spinal movements, from the pelvis all the way to the cervical spine (neck), can be very useful for releasing tension that can accumulate in the jaw. Breathwork practices, like lion's breath, can offer a nice release to the facial muscles. Thank you for sharing which movement you enjoyed the most! Love the color you selected for your pencil crayon! Thank you so much for being here, and also for your continued support 😊 Take care🙏

This is such a great video/practice, and feel so blessed to have discovered you. Out of nowhere (like most chronic pain), I am having lateral knee pain, and it seems to migrate from one knee to the other. Scoliosis is my MO. I have a very effective blend of essential oils, but I need to be much more consistent. Today, my right knee made this a painful practice. I’m gonna try it next time with a knee brace over the oils.

Hello and welcome 🤗 Thank you so much for sharing some of your experiences with me! I love that you have resources (essential oils and a knee brace) to offer support. One of the many things I love about somatic practices is that each time you show up on the mat (even if it's the same practice) will be a unique experience. I appreciate you being here, and I'm so grateful that you discovered me and this practice. I hope that this practice continues to serve you well 💚 Enjoy the rest of your day, and take care 🙏

Hi there! You're most welcome 🤗 With somatic practices, you may notice emotions surfacing in different areas of your body. When this happens for me, I lean into the emotion (as long as it feels safe in my body to do so), get curious about it, see if there's any thoughts, images, colors, or a shape attached to the emotion. It's so fascinating what can come up during somatic practices! Thank you so much for sharing your experience! I appreciate you being here 💜 Enjoy the rest of your day! 🙏

This is great. I have a really tight neck at the front nr the throat area. I got this after i had hyplori treatment. Would you recommend anything to ease this please. No gp or chiropractor know what it is.
@YogawithRachel4 ай бұрын
Hi Pauline 🤗 First off, I am so sorry to hear that you're experiencing tightness at the front of your neck following a treatment. Since I'm not a medical practitioner, I cannot diagnose or provide any treatment plan. With that said, I can speak to my own experiences with muscle tightness/tension in my neck. Gentle stretches and relaxation techniques started to ease the tension that I was experiencing in my neck. I found that rubbing my hands together to create warmth between my hands and then gently placing my hands on the area of tightness for a couple of minutes eased some of the discomfort. The breath is also a powerful tool for easing tightness and tension. Gentle neck stretches, accompanied by sending the breath to the area of tightness was useful in my journey. I found that my body responded best to somatic practices and meditation practices when it came to easing muscular tension. Again, this is speaking from my experiences. Each body is so unique. I hope that you can find relief soon 🤍 Thank you so much for being here, and enjoy the rest of your day! 🙏🤗

Is this good for Fibromyalgia? It's been recommended that I try it. Many thanks.
@YogawithRachel3 ай бұрын
Hello 🤗 Thank you so much for your question! Somatic movement practices typically consist of gentle movements that use the ground for sensory feedback. The movements are usually slow in order to help elicit the relaxation response, which can encourage the release of muscular tension. The slower pace can help heighten body awareness, strengthening the mindbody connection (this can be helpful for rewiring habitual movement patterns that can sometimes contribute to stiffness or muscular tension). What I love most about somatic practices is that you are empowered to make the practice your own. The instructor serves as a guide, offering ideas or suggestions for you to try. With that said, the invitation is to listen to what your body is communicating to you throughout your practice. You are encouraged to explore what would feel good, nourishing, and supportive. Somatic practices are said to be a useful movement practice for chronic pain/symptoms. If you decide to move through this practice, I encourage you to listen to your body. If something doesn't feel good, you can explore another option, reduce the range of motion, or find a comfortable seat of your choosing as you bring your awareness to your breath. Feel free to let me know how this practice feels in your body if you decide to give a try! Thank you for being here! Enjoy the rest of your day, and take care 🙏🤗

Hi there 🤗 Thank you so much for your kind words 💜 Ohhhhh I love this idea! I will add a lower body somatic practice to my list of classes for August (I already have July mapped out). In the meantime, you can try my progressive muscle relaxation video for releasing whole body tension. You may find this technique useful for releasing tension from the legs and surrounding areas that can also be a part of leg stiffness and tension (e.g. pelvis and lower back). Thank you so much for the suggestion!!! Wishing you an amazing rest of your day 🤗🙏

First time trying yoga. I noticed an unreal amount of tension in my body. At times my breath went into deeper breathing I’m guessing opening my breath due to releasing tension. I still have a lot. How often should I do this?
@YogawithRachel6 ай бұрын
Hey there and welcome 🤗 First off, amazing that you observed the tension in your body! A helpful piece of this practice is bringing awareness to the places where we are holding tension (and it may be different each time we show up on the mat). It is likely that you were able to access fuller breaths due to the release in tension, and this can also happen when your body starts to relax as your brain shifts into a parasympathetic state (rest-and-digest). Amazing!!! This is a great question. Somatic practices can be done daily as the brain appreciates repetition. Even if you do the same practice every day, you may find that your experience feels different each time. You may sense something new, or sense something that is still lingering. There's a lot of benefits affiliated with a daily somatic practice! With all this in mind, you are welcome to join a class whenever it feels good in your body, or whenever it would feel nourishing. I hope that this answers your question! I appreciate you being here 😊 Take care 🙏
