The whipped cream one instantly made me think of Grizzly Tales even before that was checked, solely because the concept of "fat boy dies from eating whipped cream" is pretty much par for the course for that show. I HATED that programme so god damn much. Even as a kid I questioned who exactly the target audience was meant to be; it was too aggressive, gross, and excessive to be affective fear mongering for naughty kids, and it was obviously not for adults. Like, obviously not everything needs to have a point or meaning, but the programme was clearly intent on attempting to drive home what bad behaviour was and that everything has consequences, but not even children can take that level of extremes seriously, so you're left with gross stories and a gross art style for what...? Lmao.

I used to love the show as a kid, I was pretty well-behaved and watched it because of the gore but did think it was rather silly at the time. Always been a big fan of blood n gore though so that might've fed into it. I think it might've been purely for entertainment from the start and it seems they did add a tagline "Cautionary Tales for Lovers of Squeam!" instead of just hitting out at bad-behaving kids. (this show might be why I'm so desensitised baha)
@wolfiedoesthings1436 Жыл бұрын
By the way OP described the show, I wouldn't be surprised if it was another show that traumatized me as a kid. It was called 1000 Ways to Die and depicted people dying in gruesome/graphic ways. Often times the death victims, according to some comments I found about the show, are made unlikeable so the audience doesn't feel bad for them or something.

when i remember weird and obscure things from my childhood i dont get scared as much as i feel empty and sad, it makes me think about all the unique and strange things i consumed and loved as a kid, and the fact that alot of obscure things I saw will always be lost to me and in some cases the entire world, its harrowing. It's an especially strong feeling when it comes to some weird ps2 game or demo disc I played, thinking about all the work people put into media like this just for it to be forgotten by everyone is a downer.

For a word to define the feeling, look in the dictionary of obscure sorrows. Im almost positive he wrote a definition… I must say you guys are real lucky because I am creeped out by 99.9% of the stuff that I remember. I don’t know if it’s that I used to watch really weird stuff or that really weird stuff was presented to me, but I view the 80s and 90s in way that feels very haunted and creepy. It could also be that I am just really good at creeping myself out…. I don’t scare easily but I do get really weird vibes from things and this is what I feel from the 80s and the 90s when I think back upon it… and it’s funny because my gen Z daughter says that she views the 80s and 90s in the same way. she says she doesn’t feel the nostalgia as much as a haunted feeling.

I imagine if it was any of these it was OP misremembering and mixing memories maybe with the tumblr post and another anime, as I'm not sure how many if any of these are similar to what they described. Other redditors had already suggested most on this list, also, and OP never got back. So we wait and see.

Are you still searching for the rest of the video? Because if you are, have you tried reaching out to the creators? I’m like 90% sure I know who they are. If they are, they both have their own wikipedia pages and still make films and are a well-known family of creators in sweden and everything (they are father and son). You know their names are Bo (people aren’t usually named ”Bosse”, it’s a nickname for Bo) and Ossian Melin. If you check their wikipedia pages it all matches up. The ages, the country, the names… And the fact that Bo is a professional filmmaker and artist that made an award winning dark short film about a violent clay character that is animated in a similar style around THE SAME YEARS (2008) that you recall seeing the video. It’s called ”Dockpojken”. Look up their pages. The other videos on the channel you found part of the video on also feature a guy that looks like Ossian Melin. They would at least be able to deny making it if it’s not them. But it really should be that simple? Maybe? Should I try reaching out in swedish to them? Or has anyone already tried that?
@happycylinderpigs2559 ай бұрын
If you still want to find it, try reaching out to the creators. Everything points to them being swedish award winning filmmaker Bo Melin and his (also filmmaker) son. They probably made the pingu video together in their free time.

Regarding the empty show: sorry if someone pointed this out already but there is a great 1940’s movie called The Red Shoes that features an extended ballet performance halfway through and then (spoilers for an 80 year old movie) after the main ballerina dies tragically, the film ends with the piece being performed again in it’s entirety but without the main character and the camera just following empty space. It’s super eerie and I thought it was pretty ballsy for the time. Second edit: just rewatched the ending - again - and my memory was correct except it’s not the entire 15 minute performance and it’s intercut with other stuff. It hits really hard emotionally though, I guess that’s why I remembered it being longer.
@scrumpcity Жыл бұрын
the movie is relatively similar to the story of the red shoes so i’m wondering if there’s an animated movie or show of the story? perhaps they made an anime off of the movie? (it’s such a good movie though i think everyone should watch it)

The empty show could be some real horror thing or an evil farming game effect, if it is an evil farming game effect I have a proposal if it wasn’t from the tumblr post: There’s a Jonny razor short where he does his “bad show idea” thing. (Note that I’m writing this from memory of the short) I believe it was a sitcom where every episode starts with the characters having a conversation before they get a knock at the door and the episode’s plot begins. At the end of every episode they try to finish the conversation but are cut off before they can At the end of every season they decide not to answer the door and one of the characters realizes they’re in a show and leaves, I think at the very end the final episode would be just complete silence. I think the tumblr post is a likely source if it is an evil farming game effect but since multiple people seem to remember it one of them could’ve gotten it from this short. I wouldn’t be surprised if it did exist though, this is the type of thing horror people on KZbin might make or it could be some obscure anime

So a few things regarding the show opening with a missing character; Firstly, the site Anilist has a huge library of anime and a search function that lets you filter by genre, year, and many other things. The tumblr post was from Feburary of 2014, so searching per year under the horror tag starting from that date could probably prove useful, IF op is in fact remembering an anime. Secondly, I highly doubt this to be the find considering both how popular the franchise is and that it's a 2016 anime, but this reminded me of Danganronpa 3's despair arc opening; There are two versions of it where a character who dies appears in one but not the other. And I guess it would maybe present itself in a way where you wouldn't expect character deaths, but that's more likely if you're jumping into a random episode with no knowledge of the series, since again it's very popular.

For the "empty show", is it Mayoiga? It's a pretty obscure and bad anime from 2016 where a bunch of characters go to a haunted village and die off every episode. I can't find good rips of the OP but it definitely showed the entire cast in the OP, so it's possible they were removed when they died in subsequent airings, since there exists a version of the OP which is completely devoid of any character being shown with only their names showing up.

Here's at least one answer for you. While there are certainly a handful of anime out there that change their openings and/or closings as the cast roster changes, the only anime I remember doing it like how the OP describes is the 2013 anime "Devil Survivor II: The Animation". That series has characters being added to the opening and closing as they join the story as well as vanish from the opening and closing as they die. Devil Survivor 2 sticks out to me because it was the first time I had seen a series commit hard to consistently altering openings and closings to reflect the plot in such a way, and it drove home the loss of those characters even more. I enjoyed Devil Survivor II, and my only complaint is they crammed the series into a single standard season. That show deserved more time.

I know it’s probably a long shot but, there is a chance the Whip Cream one is from a UK claymation comedy skit called “Angry Kid” even though it was claymation it was targeted towards adults it was on the same level as Family Guy in terms of humour. When it was 1st seen on TV it was shown during commercial breaks as 1 skit would last a few minutes. I don’t think there was a skit that involved whipped cream but there was one in which the kid was in the bathroom and his parents would keep asking him to come out as he was always getting up to stuff that ended badly. As he is messing around he picks up his dads shaving cream and he thinks it is edible so he puts it in his mouth and squeezes a bunch of the shaving cream in his mouth but because shaving cream expands in volume it quickly fills up his mouth causing the cream to squirt out of his nose and ears and it causes him to be violently sick to the point his face turns green and he passes out. The accents in the show are distinctly British similar to the one the guy made. I tried to find this particular skit but there are literally hours of footage as they’ve been making them from the late 90s and are currently still making them but the good news is that it does look like every single skit they’ve ever made is uploaded on KZbin it has its own channel obviously named “Angry Kid”. There is a lot of gross out humour to it so it’s not exactly gonna be to everyone’s taste.

I must say that every single thing -except for one- has been found on tip of my tongue. I had all these weird memories of weird shows from the 90s and 80s, and I just have to describe half of it and literally they find it in two seconds! Honestly, using the hive mind of Reddit is amazing… the only one they cannot find is the satanic video… So I will describe it here hopefully somebody remembers the same thing… everything that has been suggested is not it. So it is a movie that I saw in the 1980s when I was 11 years old. Which must’ve been 1987. I have very little memory of the beginning of this movie. I just know that the guy and his wife have moved to New York and he’s working at a new place and there is this building where he goes and they hold these rituals. The whole thing is that at the very end there is a black and red cake which is a blood cake. And they all eat from it, and I just remember being really creeped out about that. It is not Rosemary‘s baby, I have seen that before. Also it is not the brotherhood of Satan. A few of us literally went through every single Satanic panic movie in the 80s and it is none of them. I saw it only one time, so it’s pretty hard to remember details, but I’ll never forget that cake. There is other movies that have cakes that are similar, but it’s not that one. Also, they were in a stone ritual ceremonial place. It was inside of a building that’s all I remember. Also hoods…cloaks i guess…Black and red hoods and old men. Also I vaguely remember a conflict between the wife and the main protagonist of the story maybe that she thought they were bad and he was trying to deny it and then that’s where at the end when they present him with this cake he realizes that they are satanic I don’t know… Something like that. I have been looking for this movie for decades. I would also like to add that all of my other descriptions were pretty correct. Apparently I have a photographic memory for weird and creepy things that I’ve seen.

Some of those people who recall the "On Top of Spaghetti" short from the 90's might be thinking of those children's song compilations, specifically the All Time Children's Songs Commercial which would line up with Doug and Ren & Stimpy airings comment. The dang whistling meatballs from that commercial would be something I remembered (or would haunt my memories, if you prefer) from time to time, eventually forgetting about them until someone aired on a stream I was watching.

I remember the spaghetti bumper! It was definitely a Nickelodeon bumper that aired between shows or during commercial breaks. Though I think I remember the spaghetti being claymation rather than CGI. The time frame would be late 90s to early 00s, when shows like Rugrats, Rocko's Modern Life, and Hey Arnold were in the line-up. I think it was pre-Spongebob.

okay so that british tv fat kid cream scene sounds like a scene from a show called 'Stupid!' or something like that - had a bunch of recurring characters, and the main gist was that there was a king who would fuck things up for people by pulling a lever. EG - there was a piano teacher that only taught his student Chopsticks, the sketch 'BENDY WENDY' and 'DEVIL FINGER!' both come from that show I believe, or a very similar show. Anyway, it was full of ridiculous stuff, and I'd be willing to bet it is from there.

For that empty one, I scrolled through that tumblr post's replies and the only ones that stuck which weren't what the poster already debunked were Kamen Rider Ex-aid, Space Patrol LuLuco (the second op has a character missing but not like op states), Gun x Sword had characters in silhouette or grayed out if they weren't met or died, Full Metal Alchemist brotherhood had those title card eye catches that gave a moment of silence for dead characters, Edgar Allen Poe's party just omitted the cards for characters in the opening, making it shorter and shorter, and Devil Survivor 2's ending apparently cuts people out. Can't scroll back further than December 2016 for some reason and that tumblr post is dated February 2014. But the vast majority of the posts in there are School Live/Gakkougurashi and Too Many Cooks. There was an additional mention of Mother's Basement doing a review of an OP that covered it for some Halloween, but that may just either be Shiki or School Live/Gakkougurashi again

As somebody who lives in Germany (was born in there) I had a fear of a TV show called "Bernd Das Brot". It was a strange piece-of-bread-loaf guy that talked about sometimes random and weird shit. I remember it would always be on in the night times, maybe because it was a lullaby(?) show that teaches you facts before you go to sleep. While a lot of kids enjoyed this show (including my brothers) I found it creepy. Every time I was watching it at night (because I didn't wanted to sleep) when I tried to move away from the TV, left or right. I saw that Bernd was always looking into my direction I moved to. Thankfully some years later the TV show stopped. Still after I've watched Bernd Das Brot, I couldn't have the urge to sleep even more. So yeah, you can search some more information that I have missed about it somewhere on the internet. Safe search. 🧤🎭 P.S: The channel the TV show aired on was called KiKA

After looking for bit on that empty show lost media, I think it is either an obscure anime or it doesn't exist. I've found a couple reddit posts that predate the op's post and they suggested anime that the op already debunked. So either is a false memory or it is an anime that is relatively unknown in the english market

The fat kid eating the squirty cream was from a UK comedy sketch show, but I can’t remember which off the top of my head. Something along the lines of Not the 9’Clock News but not that as this was much later. It was live action not CGI but done in the style of a cartoon, with vibrant, whacky clothes and furniture. It was possibly even done with American accents or a stereotypical American show styling, despite being British, and if I recall correctly was one of a few skits featuring this kid and getting into trouble.

I just discovered your channel. I know this is late, but for the character disappearing from the opening, my first thought was Corpse Party. I never watched the anime adaptation, so I don't know if this was in the opening, but in the game, there's a picture of all the characters together. Later, all the characters that died have their faces blacked out as they have been erased from existence.

One thing similar that I've currently experienced is a Wallace and Gromit-style claymation short I watched 15+ years ago. I'm fairly certain it was a bonus feature on a DVD checked out from my local library. The short takes place inside an old movie theater with three notable characters: A man and his wife, perhaps the owners/operators of the venue, and a piano player/organist who provided musical accompaniment to the silent films the theater screened. The husband had a sort of obsession with hiding in a wicker basket that was kept in either a storeroom or a sort of "backstage" area and the short ended with the theater catching fire and burning down. Aside from that, there are three scenes I remember vividly. The first was one of the theater operating normally, the silhouette of the musician, a heavyset man with a rounded head, playing the piano cast against the screen before the musician is slowly lowered out of sight. The next is the wife holding back her husband from running into the flames while he says something along the lines of "I have to get back to my basket." The last was the husband being saved from the fire by the musician activating the stage lift while playing his piano. The husband makes to leave the theater, but looks back, giving the only good look at the musician that I remember. He was normal aside from his head, which was either like a carved pumpkin or the sackcloth face of the Oogie-Boogie Man. The musician says two words in a reverberating voice "Going down" before he resumes playing as the lift descends back into the fire. The short ends with the couple outside, watching the building burn down.
That's definitely "Stage Fright," featured on the DVD for Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of The Were-rabbit. I watched it some days or weeks ago. It's very enjoyable and has its own commentary. I'd highly recommend you'd find and rewatch the short, it's very well done.

As someone who has gone through every anime seasonal chart from 1998 to 2022, I'm convinced the "The Empty Show" one isn't an anime considering the more obscure unmentioned shows that would match that description (eg: Narutaru, Alien 9) or more recent ones (eg: Mahou Shoujo Ikusei Keikaku) doesn't have that on their openings. I would've mentioned Mayoiga, but OP has already confirmed that it's not it either, and considering OP said that the artstyle isn't old based on why OP said Vandread didn't match up, I'm sure that this was something OP's mind made up.
