today we are going to be deep diving into and investigating the most disturbing, intruiging, and bizarre obscure lost media r/tipofmytongue posts you should know about. these come from a subreddit on reddit dedicated to lost media, the type of content blameitonjorge covers. these are internet mysteries and reddit stories. despite all things lost it is still important to keep the community fresh with obscure content. here we cover an iceberg rabbit hole of a lost children’s show from a cult called the children of god or the family international treasure attic. aka the cult river phoenix was sadly a part of. but some of the shows have pink morning cartoon vibes. we also have another mysterious song on the internet from the blue chin vaporwave era, and i mention the mandela effect. there is also a disturbing youtube channel featured that no one can find. nobody can solve these mysteries. watch my deep dive to investigate each one!

I wonder if the person who remembered Cube being in a desert ever played '9 Hours 9 Persons 9 Doors'. 8:20 I've heard music like this before at very small outdoor festivals. You could barely call them festivals. In Maine they'd be something local where a few dozen people get together to drink Moxie and have BBQ and burgers. This is the kind of music dads play in their old bands that never got signed, songs they wrote in the 60s and 70s and this is like a recording made of them in the 90s or early 00s. Still playing their old stuff, holding on to memories and feelings from their youth. It really sounds like this to me. It's very unlikely this will ever be identified, but I'm glad a snippet of it exists. It sounds a lot like the late hippie singer-songwriter music of the 70s. Think James Taylor. But somebody still playing it two or three decades later. Real hauntological stuff.

I feel like their could have definitely been an alternative ending to The Cube during the initial release. It’s been common for filmmakers to change certain things to their films after it was already released. For example, The Shining (1980) had an alternate ending when it was first released, there was an extra scene at the end of the movie involving Wendy and Danny but Kubrick didn’t like it so he cut it from the film and it probably made for a better ending.

I'm virtually positive that the mysterious song is _not_ from the 1960s or 1970s. It sounds like a specific flavor of C86-style jangle pop from the 1980s-there _was_ kind of a 60s revival going on at that time, and it definitely influenced the indie scene. I'd just as soon be looking at Creation, Rough Trade, maybe Cooking Vinyl, and other similar labels from that period. I don't know a ton about jangle pop, but I do know that the indie music scene was exploding around this time, so it could just as soon have come from a self-pressed 45, mailorder-distributed tape or some other super low-run release.

The "Cube" entry compelled me to leave this comment as it unlocked a memory for me. Once upon a time, I was in grade 12 at an international school in Japan. My dormmates & I would go to a DVD rental store at least once a week & they had the most random stuff, I swear. They would have all of the big/popular/recent Japanese & Hollywood movies, but they would also have the most obscure & low-budget American movies that no Redbox or streaming service would ever carry. The standout was essentially a blatant rip-off of the "Saw" franchise. I'm talking ridiculously, illegally similar. To this day, I have never been able to find the movie itself, the title, or any record whatsoever of this its existence outside of that DVD rental shop in Sapporo. I'm sure it did (does?) exist, but maybe the plagiarism was so intense that it could only legally be released abroad? It even had a grown man made up to look like Billy (the puppet who rides the tricycle) & he looked ridiculous. I'm sure it was an absolutely hot mess of a movie & I wish I had watched it *16 years ago* (😖😣😫😭) when I had the chance. Hopefully I will stumble across it again one day.😂

A Kylie video to start the day! How lovely! EDIT: Finished the video. I am SO intrigued by the old KZbin animations. Lost media always punches me in the gut because it's art that is lost. Someone put time and effort into those animations, songs, whatever it may be, and whenever it's a project presumably made by just one person, it feels like it's all the more hard-hitting. The premise of the first video, with the girl calling 911, also feels like it could be an interesting psychological horror short film. I hope all of these cases are solved someday.

I would've put money on the movie one at the end being Maze Runner, I was super into that as a middle schooler, and my undiagnosed adhd ass in 7th grade basically was able to memorize all of the lore. It doesn't just check some boxes for the missing film, it checks every single one of them. Characters must escape a giant maze they don't understand by figuring out a secret message encoded into the geometry of the maze itself, but only a small group survives. After getting out, they encounter a second puzzle set up for them, crossing a massive desert and traversing a crumbling city, something which had no foreshadowing whatsoever because the maze was actually built underground somewhere in Alaska. They were brought to the desert, and that's why it would've seemed so sudden, because before they were in a climate-controlled cave with no extreme weather. In the movies, they cut straight to the part where they're in the desert, and when they leave the maze at the end on helicopters they can see that the structure was somehow built in a desert of some sort, which means both the puzzle AND the desert are in the same movie. It's a perfect fit, and it's so frustrating that OP specifically said it wasn't that.

Treasure Attic?! I THANKFULLY did not grow up in The Family International but the stories I’ve heard about people who did grow up in it during the 70s and 80s are absolutely horrendous. Especially what happened to Ricky Rodriguez. The whole thing is a rabbit hole, no exaggeration. TFI also did a puppet show called “Life with Grandpa”, it’s about the cult’s founder and the children and younger adults living with him in his household (which I noticed playing in the background of you talking about “Treasure Attic”). Those puppets look scary enough but the ones from “The Luvvets” look so much worse, lol.

I have a tip of my tongue mystery i still havent solved. I've been searching for a short I saw years ago on youtube. It was a short, live action film but with animated elements into it. It followes two best friends, a guy and a girl, having dinner together. One eventually asks the other "would you still be my friend if I had pasta for hands" and it would cut to an animated sequence of the scenerio. The other replies that yes, they would be friends, and we go back to the live action dinner, except the girl actually has pasta hands from then on. The short continued in that fashion, one would ask if they would still be friends given a bizarre scenerio, we see an animated segment of it, and it would manifest in reality. As this goes on the animated elements become more and more prominent, eventually becoming fully animated. Finally, the girl asks the guy if he would still love her if he couldnt see, hear or feel her, he replies yes, and she disappears. I remember seeing this on youtube, the girl had red hair in a short bob, the guy had dark (bluish colored) hair and glasses

The desert one reminds me of "Nine Hours, Nine Persons, Nine Doors". Basically, the set up is nine people are trapped on a sinking ship. They are tasked with trying to escape within nine hours (which involves solving escape-the-room puzzles) or die. SPOILER It turns out the "ship" was actually a facility designed to test psychic powers as part of an attempt to cure prosopagnosia. When the characters exit the facility, it turns out to be in the middle of the desert.

I don't buy into the "alternate reality" bit, but I do think there's more to the Mandela Effect than just unreliable memories. A lot of things are obviously just the brain connecting concepts or "fixing" things (Curious George is monkey, and monkeys have tails). But there are some things that so many people can agree on with no reasonable nugget of truth that keep the concept open to me.
@joshjames582
@joshjames582 Жыл бұрын
I agree there's more to it, but I think it has more to do with how the human brain works than anything else, similar to the concept of multiple cultures with no contact developing similar religious myths, etc. You could assume this means these events actually happened, but I think it's more likely that the human brain simply conjures these images and thoughts for some reason we don't fully understand yet.
@theMoporter
@theMoporter Жыл бұрын
I think it's very interesting as a social phenomenon. The way neurology works is so complicated and doesn't match up with our perceptions. It's quite possible that people experiencing the Mandela Effect have a weak false memory that's similar, but it's overwritten 100% when they read someone else's false memory. The human brain is fascinating in how far it will go to convince itself of made-up nonsense.

I definitely remember the weird ads on Hulu/Twitch, but only saw them on Twitch. I believe there's a possibility I saw them on YT as well during the pandemic. The first time I saw them was Twitch airing Dr Who, which happened in 2018. My AdBlocker wasn't working on that site during the marathon, so I kept seeing ads. I couldn't have told you what product the ads were for- I'm fairly certain I believed they were some ARG or marketing crap to get people to ask about the ads and look into it, since they were so odd that all you could really do was ask questions about them. The second time I saw them was on KZbin during the pandemic, before I had premium, and on an iPad (So I had no AdBlock.) It was near the beginning of the pandemic, and the ads were very similar, but I don't believe they were the same exact ads as the first time. I presumed this time that it was a sort of "You can't leave your house, so we'll bring the nature to you" thing to advertise for some company/ARG/etc. All the ones I recall seeing took place in a field and had a man involved. I got to the point of learning to look away when they came on because they creeped me out.

27:50 I remember pirate DVDs back then. Before the movie officially came out on DVD, people would sneak a video camera into the theater and record the movie off the screen. So as unlikely as it seems, there is a slight possibility that that one pirate friend got a hold of a bootleg recording of Cube that just happened to have the alternate ending, and that's what OP watched.
@KookShanty
@KookShanty Жыл бұрын
Ehhhh... really unlikely that an alternate ending was actually playing in theaters. Before a movie is sent to theaters they watch over the final edit like a million times to make sure that everything is exactly right, and since the director has said he destroyed all copies of this alternate version, I don't think there is any way it would somehow wind up in a movie theater. The only possibility is that maybe someone on set was able to sneak a copy and that version was found on a piracy site, but it wouldn't be officially screened in any capacity. Ultimately I think this was either another movie or people are remembering wrong.

Basically it was a group of scientists that discovered a frozen man in ice and they thawed him out. They assumed he was a modern man that accidentally got frozen in ice cuz he was in modern clothes. Everything was going well until they started doing test on him to make sure he was ok after being frozen in ice and they where able to revive him. I just remember the moment he realized that the scientists were not the same as him after having a conversation he started to become violent. He had super human strength. His characters was probably in his late 20s to early 30s. He has short brown hair, a clean shaven face. He was no a caveman. That's one of the things people kept brining up. It was probably filmed in the late 90s to early 2000s. I remember watching it in middle school in the early 2000s. I feel like it was probably the modern outer limits or twilight zone. It was probably in that or a show with the same vibe, it could also be a film. I did look at all the links and names everyone sent me and it's not from the 70s or 80s.

Music really needs to be its own separate category of “lost media” or “mysteries”. It’s just too volatile a medium. I worked at a studio for a few years in 2009 and there were countless artists who would come through the door and record literally one song, and never show up again. Meaning that if you come across an obscure song these days it’s likely it was someone who had a song and recorded it. No album, no other songs. The end. Sometimes it’s a passion project that stalled. Sometimes just a guy with a guitar for fun. Sometimes a group that falls apart or runs out of money. Some were straight up demos that never got mastered. Like, hundreds. Now multiply that across the entire world. Every music studio that operates today has hard drives full of songs that were recorded by amateurs and professionals that will never see the light of day.

Love your videos! I follow several different internet mystery channels and you’re one of the only ones who highlights TOMT mysteries. The Twitch/Hulu ad thing is interesting. This theory might be a bit out there, but with the way they talk about how the ads don’t “advertise anything” I almost wonder if the purpose of the ads is to be unsettling and tell other people “hey I saw this ad” so those people will go to the service and watch it in hopes of seeing the ad for themselves, thus gaining the service ad revenue. If the ad were shown rarely enough, people would have to watch a lot of ads before seeing it again. I could be totally off-base, but it wouldn’t surprise me if advertisers noticed the interest in weird/obscure ads and decided to take advantage of it.

As a Canadian with a fondness for 90s culture I want to say that I also got super 90s Canadiana vibes from that mysterious song. It does sound a little dated for that time, but that was true for a lot of homegrown Canadian culture in that time period. (I remember a HIMYM joke being that Canada didn't get the '80s until 1993, which is only a partial exaggeration.) It reminds me a bit of bands like Blue Rodeo and 54-40 like the video mentions. There was a big cultural push for homegrown Canadian content at that time (sort of like the Cool Britannia thing that Britain went through in the 90s). I feel like it wouldn't be unrealistic for a band to have gotten famous enough regionally to have sold CDs and gotten some limited radio play before falling out of public consciousness before the Internet became popular enough to preserve the music properly. The problem is how the band had enough appeal for a random KZbin user put their song in a video without having enough exposure to be remembered by anyone else. I think something like the above is one way to resolve that dilemma. The other main possibility for me is that the music is actually connected to that random KZbinr in some way, like it was their older cousin's band from years ago or something.

I also remember this, and it might not have been Cube, since I usually binge a lot of movies at once and sometimes the more forgettable ones start to merge with the more memorable ones (like Cube) in my head. But I agree, it was an unnatural structure, it was full of horrific things and traps and stuff that needed to be escaped/survived, etc, but I do remember the desert having a meaning, not foreshadowing per se, but it had a meaning. From what I can remember, the whole movie they're talking about what kind of sick person built this thing and there's mentions of a mysterious company that had it made, or maybe some super rich guy that had it made, but the purpose of it is supposed to be some kind of testing or research for something very important. So when the guy escapes and sees it's just a structure in the middle of a desert, it's supposed to be the realization that no, it wasn't actually all for some grand important reason, it was all just pointless torture and he went through all of that for nothing because escaping meant nothing if he's just stranded in the middle of nowhere without food or water.

I didn’t spend much time on twitch in 2018, but from what I do remember, I have seen the ad of the guy walking into the lake. The thing about twitch ads is that users can’t make their own ads like KZbin, Facebook, Instagram, etc. Twitch gets paid by advertising, and since they don’t have permanent videos/streams, people can’t advertise their streams because they’d disappear after a few weeks. It really makes you wonder what they were trying to advertise, or if they just pulled a few random obscure videos off of KZbin just to get ad watch time up.

Great video, there is nothing like a perfect marriage or relationship, I learnt that in everything there is always a solution, 5 years ago I and my wife divorced because we were having some difficulties in our marriage but we are back together ,it was a really bad phase but we got through it

That’s so weird about the cube one because I swear I also remembered cube ending with the character walking out of the cube and walking around a desert, although I remember there being a road instead of just the middle of the desert. It must’ve been another movie or maybe the ending of one of the crappy sequels

When discribing the cube movie ending I instantly thought of krulls ending. I remembered a structure in the desert coming out of nowhere and disappearing! Good movie recommend

Assuming OP of the last post got memories mixed up, it is possible that they're thinking of portal 2. Similar thing: Solving puzzles, finally makes it out and you're in a vast empty (in portal not empty, just cornfields all around but you get the idea) space.

Could the “Film or Mandela Effect” one be AMC’s The Prisoner remake? I mean that miniseries aired like only once on TV and took place in a desert. It was a trip to watch too

That cult story makes me sad. As a Christian, it's sad how these cults make Christianity look bad.

You sound like someone who'd burn their hand on a stove and then get rid of it and buy a new stove, expecting the new one not to burn you. Please don't say something so silly about cults making Christianity look bad. Christianity IS a cult about abusing children. That's what it's about. I don't know if you're an abuser, or a victim, or both, but there is no "neither" answer here. Anyone currently in a Christian community needs to be aware that they are in danger. This is a still ongoing serious problem. So if your comment was sarcastic, you need to make that more clear. Don't want any children to get the wrong idea that they're in one of the good Christian communities. Because there is no such thing. I was lucky to get out of it while I was still young, and lucky that my parents were never part of it.

The voice of the mysterious song sounds an awful lot like David Hess, the actor in the orginal Last House on The Left (and also composed the soundtrack). He had an active music career in the 70s but wasnt very popular so the majority of his lyrics arent catalogued. Ive gone through some of the songs that are available on youtube and found a few close hits. His style tends to vary so i would say give a few songs of his a listen before you dismiss him from the running, and if dude that posted it was a troll would fit with a malicious spirit given he's noteworthy for being in a crazy violent movie

The most intelligent comment in relation to the "mysterious song". I'm not sure how I occasionally end up listening to one of these silly "mystery" videos, but the complete ignorance of how anything was created and where it may sit referentially from the beginning of time to only a few years ago is astounding. I don't know if I hear the Hess myself, but that LHOTL soundtrack is great.

My roommates were born into TFI... growing up around them it took one of them to throw an old TFI video that I used to make a YTP. Then after moving in with them we confirmed it after seeing some breadcrumbs from some daytime episodes of Unsolved Mysteries and some daytime TLC/Discovery Channel mini docs. Every time I brought the latter up one of the roommates asked "...do you remember the show? This needs to be brought to light." I'm just glad you're one of the few that have brought this to light.

I was dozing contentedly to this and popped WIDE awake. I watched Cube with my fiance last year and I was COMPLETELY stumped when it *didn't end with them walking into the desert*. I was full Mandela'd, and I would pin it on two things: 1) The ending of Cube is kind of squishy in the brain. The last moment deaths don't seem to stick as hard as an ending as the bright white light at the end of the *puzzle* does. Hell, I thought my dude Gumdrops made it out alive the entire time rewatching--I forgot it went on further than that. 2) One of the protags, early on, floats the idea that they're in the middle of a desert somewhere. I can't speak for anyone else, but my brain steps outside the building at that point and fully envisions a giant shiny metal cube in the desert, not far off from OP's visions. It's a very simple, specific image. I hate giving answers like this, because it means the source is lost in liminality and the brain splinter can't be pulled, but this is a fascinating Mandela and should be documented. Thanks for the great video! I'm usually more awake when I watch them, but I have insomnia and feel comfortable falling asleep when someone is doing some good storytelling, so please consider the doze a compliment!

For the last one I’m pretty sure Grave Encounters 2 has a scene where a character escapes the haunted asylum and finds himself in the desert. Not really similar to Cube but that’s the first thing that came to my mind.

I have seen that cube movie where it ends in the desert. It’s not a “cube” movie but it’s a similar genre. They have huge gaps in between the room and the only way they find they way out is by finding out that the starting room is also the exit. I’ll try to look for the name.
