Clemente cards, Koufax cards, Mays cards below fifty bucks with higher grades than before. No Spahns, Marichals, Brocks, ets. I paid more for the 68 Seaver and 60 Mantle Boyer cards 25 years ago. The Holtzman card just a bit high. He was a hell of a pitcher. I use to bowl with him in junior league as a kid. He just passed this year.

This episode was mind blowing. You could not give me those common 10 grade cards. I will take those Clemente’s and Mays all day long. Great show

Graig, my explanation for any high end sale in this hobby is that those collectors don’t care about comps. They are extremely wealthy and just want high grade cards and will pay anything for them. They are living in a different world than 99% of the collectors and that’s why these sales don’t make any sense to you and I. It’s no different than the people who buy court-side seats at a basketball game, or a luxury apartment in NYC, or a membership at a big name private golf course. The price is irrelevant to them, as they are paying for their social status in society.

This time of year is a huge buying opportunity! Definitely need to pay more attention to eBay auctions. I still prefer the hunt for special raw cards, but the prices for graded copies are amazing right now.

Love seeing the crazy sales. Good job Graig.

Sounds like the buying opportunities continue. I live in the 2-5 grade range, so I’m ok with it.

I have a 1964 Philadelphia Johnny Unitas PSA 8 to sell, but I am sure as hell not putting it into an eBay auction and seeing it in next month's under $50 showcase! 🤯

Hi Graig, Thank you for one of my favourite parts of your channel: the great cards for under $50.00! This is pure pleasure for me. I have been picking up Roberto Clemente cards at great prices lately and I don’t understand how they can be so inexpensive! You provide such great entertainment and I really don’t appreciate people who criticize your efforts. If they don’t like it then don’t watch but keep your vitriol to yourself. Best Wishes, Peter

Inflation hits middle class collectors the hardest plus it seems high end collectors are narrowing their Mt Rushmore of cards: Mantle, Jackie, Nolan Ryan

I’ve always loved the 62 Koufax. Also Mantle Boyer and Bomber’s Best. Thx for showing these. Cheers.

Hi Graig. Like you said, crazy to think how cheap some of these star cards are being picked up for, and how expensive high grade commons have sold for. Mantle is Mantle. Thanks for sharing my friend, talk soon pal.

Those PSA set registry guys are nuts, and some of them have deep pockets. Some 25 years ago my Bench collection ranked near the top of the registry, and I paid $300 for a 1979 Topps Bench PSA 10 that should not have cost one-third that price at the time. I already had a 9, but the 10 nudged my registry GPA up a smidge into 2nd place for a few days! Like I said, registry guys are nuts. Silver lining: Now the card is worth double what I paid.

You are right that John Havlicek RC was definitely mind blowing, that particular card is on my radar screen.

Graig, what do think of this? I see a bifurcation of the card market for ‘60s cards. Prices of cards in the 3-6 grade range have declining prices, and the very high grade range 7-10 is increasing in prices?

Crazy cheap! Except high grade Mantles are nuts! Lol That Nettles though! 🤯 Great video Graig!

A lot of nice buys for the average collectors. But man, those high grade commons at those prices. The set register guys are a breed of their own ! 😂. I’ve seen nice Goudy Ruth’s you could buy in a 1-3 grade range for the price of the Holtzman 10 ! What are we doing !!!

We’re doctoring cards at an alarming rate and calling them fresh to the hobby, that what.
@markstein1916Күн бұрын
It's really not baffling. Rampant (non-transitory) inflation has caused the prices of gas, food, travel, entertainment, health care and home heating all to skyrocket. When prices of staple items escalate, then nice-to-have items' prices decline. Those 1960s cards are all quite common, and are available in large supply any day of the week. So it only figures that the prices would come down. As for the registry nonsense... there is no accounting for poor judgement, and inflation does not impact that type of collector. The current REA auction will be a far better barometer of the current state of the higher-end market.

The '63 Topps Rose BVG 8.5 is way overpriced. If you look that sale up you can see the card and you can certainly assume there's no way it would even grade a PSA 8. It has a fugly upper right hand corner and spotting throughout the card. A PSA 8 goes for around $10k these days. BVG cards are commonly over graded if you were to compare a BVG grade directly to a PSA grade. I would expect that card to grade a 6, maybe a 7 on a lucky day, if sent to one of the big grading companies. You can find a Rose rookie in a PSA 7 for anywhere between $4-$5k. Buyer didn't buy the card, they bought the grade.

Graig, i forgot what KZbinr mentioned a ‘centering tax’ we all pay for a centered vintage card. I think it would be interesting to do a video and see what is the average value we should pay more for a centered card? What would be that centered tax after normal comps? 10%? 15%? 20%?

Great video Graig. I’m sort of glad that I’m not a registry guy. I like buying what I see as a great card at a fair price regardless of grading company or even grade. I’m not putting down the registry guys, it’s just not for me. I would rather have an epic prewar card in a mid-grade than a PSA 9 1968 Mantle.

Low grade star cards are going for dirt cheap. Clemente cards are crashing from just a few years ago. Hard to figure how he's having a bad year 50 years after his passing. Koufax, Mays and Aaron down? Makes no sense.
@ACD1994Күн бұрын
There certainly are more Clemente's, Aaron's and Mays on this list. Than they were when you first began doing this type of video. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing, imho. Could be some pretty good buying opportunities. Like you said. They are great players. The hobby does not have to be expensive.

The dealers sold at the peak and are now buying back as the market crashes

The hobby proves once again the grading companies rule the day…the prices are astronomical for.commons in high grades yet the Hall of Famers like Mays and Clemente are literally going begging with grades in the 3-4 range. Frustrating!!!!
@jasonperlmutter44022 күн бұрын
Supply and demand. There are tons of low grade stars available.
@mrmjmillerКүн бұрын
The super rich are taking over the high priced market when they pay thousands for high grade commons and peanuts for low grade super stars. There is definitely something startling going on in the hobby.

Let me tell you something. You're to young to have experienced Broadway Joe Namath. But, yes, he was one of the best. He had a cannon of an arm. Don't let these distorted statistics of today fool you. If he was babied like today's quaterbacks, his statistics would have been through the roof. Just sayin......

Why do you keep on talking about cards that people like you can afford when you document just about monthly cards you buy for much more than that at this point and which you clearly can afford based on your assets you regulary talk about? Regarding your previous pondering about your "legacy", you might want to consider Mike Tyson's recent comment that legacy is all ego. Is this question to yourself in line with at least trying to position yourself as a humble guy?
