Using lots of fodder to soften up the mech is a lot of fun. It does not do a lot of damage but it does make our jobs a fair bit easier by getting rid of the melee units. It does come with an element of risk but having 6 extra troops to help out made things a lot more manageable.

I'm not sure if you realize or not but you can add up to 6 void sculptures in addition to your 4 shard beacons to increase your ritual's quality. There is also a search function that is from 1.5 the spyglass in the bottom right (also has a hotkey but I forget what it is)

You can use this to search for a lot of stuff including mineral nodes, steam geysers, mechs, pawns, buildings, etc

The thing with Draw animals ritual is that if you intentionally fail it you get attacked by a manhunter pack the same size as a randomly generated one with high threat points, while successful animal migrations are tiny in comparison In most cases, killing the manhunters yields much more food, even considering the fact that most animals will rot upon death from scaria infection Example - i use the ritual twice in a row on cooldown, first i get literally just 7 deer, while on the second try i get attacked by 55 manhunting elephants, and i end up with 14 intact corpses, while the rotten ones are fed to the harbinger trees If you have the firepower, intentionally failing this ritual is more beneficial IMO Best way for that - get a psychically deaf pawn wear a single piece of eltex gear for

This might be anecdotal but it feels like the man hunters seem to be on the larger side. The 3 times I had it fail on purpose it was bears, bears, warogs. Psyfoil helmets and psychically dull pawns are great for low quality.

Bioferrite gear for Warmachine will boost his psychic sensitivity my a lot. At least a helmet and a weapon since the kid's still growing. Also you may want to consider putting the ritual spot somewhere more secure than right next to the kill box. That way you don't have to worry about uninstalling/reinstalling the shard beacons or anything damaging/destroying it.

Paramedics can't be infected, but they also are way worse at figuring out if a person is infected by a metalhorror. Like they have 60% chance, while a 10 skill doctor has 99% chance. Risk/reward.

True - Using it on the doctor you want to do investigations is really the only real assurance you have. Still some risk, but that initial check is nothing but potential upside.

@@Grazui I wonder what the chance of passing on the infection is during surgery if the doctor is infected. You could potentially use prisoners to test by having your doctors perform surgeries on them and then executing the prisoners.

@bahhumbug2072 haven't had it happen but the reddit people who have think it's quite high. Seems to be a real danger of a colony wipe if your doctor is infected. Obviously take reddit with a grain of salt 😅

@@Grazui Honestly in this case, the higher the better. Being able to sacrifice prisoners to trigger the Horrors or confirm a colonist is clean before completing the Grey Flesh research would be incredibly valuable.

Got my mittens on Anomaly and I have to say, you need to use turret backpacks some more. They are incredible decoys that you get to build. It's an incredible failsafe when you're short on lances and burner shields.

@@hiredgoon4269 yes, but he mentioned concerns about the stores in the fridge. Yes he has a few thrumbos waiting but those are feeding the colonists paste (and potential guests as regular meals). And the bug meat is really just emergency rations for the ghouls taking up fridge shelf space at this stage. Seems like a better use of resources and food storage space to clear that out. Especially given Warmachine is next up in the tube soonish.

I'm sure you know this but if you build your hydroponic area with the walls hugging the outter basins you won't need a pillar for the roof. That way you can use those empty spaces for heaters.

Keep in mind, heaters generate light, so it'd be detrimental if going nutrifungus. Not going Tunneler meme here, so not applicable to @Francis' current playthrough, but it is worth keeping in mind for those who do play Tunneler (I learned the hard (more annoying, but still) way)

Bioferrite reactors give 4kw and require 6 bioferrite/day. They also only take up 2 squares. Gives a viable addition to steam without screwing around with unreliable sources or waste packs. I am sure you know, but sunlamps cover a larger area now. Actually, you mentioned it. No, with the old sunlamp design, you do not need pillars, as you do not exceed the 11 x X that requires pillas,as long as X>11. And, yeah, double wall it unless you hate your power supply and like using extra components.

One cool idea for this playthrough since you are playing as transhumanist would be if you looted some adjacent tiles for transponders, kinda like you did in your nomad wizard playthrough but the focus is the ancient exostrider midsection instead of the ancient danger. You could easily turn everyone in your colony into a mechanitor this way.

I think a chain shotgun might be a good complement to the boom box - great stopping power, is the log line. And you could probably convert it over to a triple boom box without too much challenge, assuming you've got the manpower to run it. I love this design - the constant explosion sounds belie the elegance of it

Learned today that if you use drop pod to send fresh corpses back to their homes you get insane rep per body. A single raid could net you a new ally of you just load up corpses and mail them off right away!

I always create a zone for raids that restricts my pawns to the base interior, minus the kill-box. That way the muppets never wander outside and only drafted pawns can enter the kill-box.

Mod: Compact Hediffs. See the HP bars of individual limbs (the bars only show if the limbs are injured). Makes it really easy to estimate pawn health at a glance, for both the player and viewers.

Don’t forget you need Smerk to be a knight if you want to trade with the empire. That’s 4 ranks not counting the first one that you get for 1 point. Might be better only using 2 neuroformers and saving the last for one of the lunks. I am also glad you didn’t use grenades for the turrets. Smoke + grenades = sadness these days.

Don't forget to install that void sculpture you got as a quest reward, placing them near the ritual spot increases void ritual efficiency. You can also craft more yourself with bioferrite, so you should pump out a few more, I believe the maximum you can attach to a ritual spot is 8. Also, please, do use the 'Draw Fleshbeasts' ritual. Zombies are cool, but you should try it out at least once in this playthrough, sooner rather than later.

Poor thing completely defenceless while solo (or with such small escort) if you could show it someone who will run circles with shield belt equipped... 27:15 "hydroponic". Same as with the wood issue. "there are some ways... strange ways... which will not eat all your components and power" (only for food, wood and medicine)

Just for the record you don't need pillars to roof in the hydroponics, as it's 13 tils from one wall to the next and that's the max you can go. The four spots were used for temperature (heaters) and firefoam for the power surge events, which have largely been stopped thanks to hidden power lines.

Roleplaying "good" would be difficult. No human leather, no enslaving people then killing them for titles, can you keep prisoners as blood bags even!. Yunners, firing toxic waste at people, betraying quest people to get new recruits. It would take away so many options.

I would have thought that Heavy SMGs or Assault Rifles would have better effective DPS against mechs than using flak grenades, especially with their armor and ability for more people to participate from longer ranges. Although I've never tried a grenade killbox myself, so interesting to see it working.

The grenade killbox is a bit of a hack. At low pawn counts you can't get enough guns on target to kill mechs as they enter a kill box. Since you are going to end up with multiple targets in the kill box it makes grenades more effective as they can hit multiple targets at once. Think of three centipedes in the kill box, with guns your damage does not change. With grenades you can potentially hit three targets at the same time, tripling your grenade damage.

I have not tested pollution retaliation. But my understanding is they are wealth related. I believe the quantity of waste you send just determines how likely they are to retaliate and how quickly. But again I have not tested this and this is just my subjective experience.

Yttakins make better Ghouls than Neanderthals. Both have Robust and Strong Melee but Yttakins have Naked Speed(instead of Slow Speed for Neans) and no learning speed penalty. Unless you jack them up with elbow blades, etc. Ghouls are mostly melee blockers, not damage dealers, so I wouldn't worry about lack of melee passion - they'll get there eventually. Ghouls can also benefit from Nuclear Stomachs, especially since most of their upgrades increase their metabolism. Also this may not be immediately obvious, but Ghouls can use all the Serums - and since they don't have a mood bar they get no penalties for doing so.

muffalo in the next playthru huh? what if you made a cowboy colony with a ranching ideology with muffalo as the revered animal and cowboy hats as required clothing. if you want to limit to everyone having a trait it could be careful shooter or trigger happy.
