If you want to stay living in a pandemic economy there's not much to say. Comparing sale prices from back then to full retail today is disingenuous. Back then businesses would pay you to take millions of barrels of crude oil if you had a place to store it. If you want it today it will cost closer to the $85 a barrel. Some of what you are feeling today was caused by increased demand, some by increases in core costs manly driven by that increase cost in fuel, and some was caused by the stimulus money sent out . As we learned from the Japanese in the 80"s, not stimulating an economy that had been shut down would be devastating. And most of that surplus has already been pulled back out of the market by changes in Fed Treasury buys. The US has been producing more oil than any other country and at any other time in our history for several years now. The move over to renewable energy will also increase the available supply of fossil fuels by lowering the overall demand. If you want to push towards lowering core costs you should really be onboard for switching as much demand to renewables as possible.

If people think prices are falling, they hold off making purchases, hoping to get a better deal later. Companies get less revenue and then start cutting even more costs... usually in the form of layoffs of workers. Thanks for doing your part to support the Fed's disastrous monetary policies by cheerleading for them.
