The thing is, those numbers are out there anyway- it's not 'your' damage or 'your' healing/buffs because we can see on the UI how much healing/buffs we're receiving and we can see the red hp bars/blue defiance bars deplete.

i was and i am definitely a fan of the inability to inspect other players, it is simply wrong to be able to inspect other players so easily, you should at least get a popup message like "xyz wants permission to inspect your gear" or something like that so you have at least a minimum of social interaction if someone wants to inspect you and then you simply have to select "yes" or "No", or just no by default, that should just be possible. It was never an option from the start an that was a good thing, everyone who don't see a problem with that can't be helped anyway... Social interaction is everything in MMORPGS ...

I strongly support this feature. However, it would be beneficial to have a toggle option to allow users to unlock it for others if they wish. It is understandable that certain aspects like dyes and armor skins are obtained through key tokens, so forcing them to be accessible by everyone may raise some concerns. Anet should not require everyone to openly share these items just because there might be individuals who prefer not to communicate or request specific pieces. Nonetheless, I am enjoying this feature.

Only thing i would be upset about is that they not spend their time for much more needed QoL features like a CD timer for the seconds weapon bar, a targets target option or showing health bars outside of groups.

@@TheJanissary90 actually it is. whenever i see a nice skin, i can just inspect the fellow and see it. if it looks really cool i will send a whisper congratulating them. other wise, i have to whisper , hope they are not afk and wait for the reply. No matter how you look at it, it is a good welcomed feature and aside from the part where it is a fashion contest and you don't want the others to see your skins(which can easily be solved with a gear template swap like Darens suggested), i failed to see an actual legitimate negative. if you have a problem with people inspecting your bundle of pixels , then i am sorry to say but that is the least of your worries.

@@TheJanissary90 i think you are missing the point here... or i am :) The game has a bad ingame design. for a lot of information you need to search the wiki and/or youtube. Personally i felt like going thru university all over again when i started playing. Wooden Potatoes, Teapot and later Muk were my go to guys to learn the ins and outs. And while it still has a long way to go, baby steps are better than nothing in improving the quality of life. While I totally agree with you that the "endgame" fashion wars are basically epilepsy triggering lightbulbs there are some out there that use skins that are pleasant to look at and don't induce seizures. A perfect example for this happened to me 2 days ago in a strike group. i played this game for 4+ years and had no ideea about cultural armors, specifically the human sorceress one (for obvious reasons ^^). i've seen it in game a couple of times but every time i whispered the players about it, they were either afk or just didn't respond. All of that could have been skipped with a simple inspect and no screenshotting to ask on forums/redit. so to end this debate... yes, the inspect feature is good. just wish i could see the infusions also, in case i decide to become a light bulb myself one day XD

For fashion contests, you don't even need another equipment template. Just put on an outfit until you get judged, as that hides the actual armor pieces from the inspect. The fact that of all MMOs, only in Gw2 people find a problem with this feature shows how insane a part of the community is. If you are at the point where you genuinelly get angry because someone can see your fashion, it's time to re-evaluate how much of your self worth you are linking to a videogame and if it's healthier to take a step back.

This whole thing is just blown out of proportion. IMO, the only gripe people should have is the one about the no effort. True, if someone is going to copy your look, then they're going to copy it. However, before there was effort involved. Either the copier took the effort to look the items up, or they took the effort to ask about your appearance. I will add that when someone asks you what equipment or dyes you're using, that also opened up the chance for conversation that could also lead to them playing the game together, which is what, I believe, Anet's original goal was for the game. That being said, I do appreciate the Inspect Tool, but can also agree with a request for the toggle.

i dont care much, but i think youre a little optimistic that people wont copy 1 for 1. this is a slight negative in my eyes, but not enough to whine about. i think it'd be cool if they added an Opt-Out feature, but it is what it is. Since this fashion related, you can check ALL wardrobe unlocks via bank (can "try on" any and all gear) and see how it looks. dont get too butthurt gents

Well lets talk about the fact that you can still see weapon sets and could already see if people playing off meta weapons, which i like to do for a lot of heal build which i play, so there is room for toxicity here. Secondly I do understand that people dont want to be copied that easily (including myself), at least let us decide if we want to get inspected or not. Make it a general feature or just a "X wanna inspect you, wanna permit it?" Or something.... Yes you can see the skins anyways but not the exact dyes used and dyes actually make a outfit work or look horrible. I think people saying that they want the people copying something to put at least effort in is compromise to the time YOU put in to make it work. And I read a lot of comments on, that people not answering about their skins/colours used. I do ask a lot and 95% of the time i do get an answer often have a small chat with them. PS. I am neither pro or contra right now on this feature, but adding an option to turn it off would be nice.

And most of the time people will only care about a few pieces of the fashion and not the whole thing, because most people don't wanna steal a whole look that might not even work for their own character due to race/skin color not matching the dyes the "original" fashion has. I myself have only asked about some chestpieces that ended up being race locked so i couldn't try it on the bank.

It's just skin combinations, gw2 vets will know what youre wearing by just a glance. This tool is good for newer people to get into fashion wars and learn combinations. It's a great tool imo

The ones complaining are the elite fashion end game. Which happens to every elite endgame content lover. Weve seen it many times from raid to strike to pvp to wvw. Its their given right to make a bigger deal out of it then what it is because its their passion. Once they start looking at it objectively they'll see its not a big deal and ppl will barely use it, they'll forget its even there and they'll still get pmd about there fashion. Problem with their opt in solution is then it becomes a bigger step closer to build or gear inspection since those would be opt in aswell. So its a tough spot for anet. In reality the fashion inspection is the useless part of the qol, the showing you where to get the item in game is the better part of it, specially if it opens the tp for you. Less 3rd party stuff the better.

People wanting to be unique within a MMO has always been a thing since dawn of time. People try and do this IRL. However, despite a feature that wouldn't ruin anything for most people... the community as a whole decided to be very toxic and abusive towards these minority, really bringing into doubt the whole "friendly community in mmo" For, against, both sides.. doesn't matter... this feature while welcomed has been ruined by the toxic community as a whole towards people asking for a simple opt out issue. The skins and visible to everyone ALL the time, people complaining is nonsense to me. I will probably hardly ever use this new feature becasue I already recognize all the armour pieces. On the other hand, being able to see the dies is going to help me if I see someone with a nice armour/die combo. If people are jelous of which die they use on a specific armour piece, well it's just petty.

Problem with on/off is then there wouldn't be any reason to not put gear inspect, build inspect if we can just opt out. So it'll just open another can of worms. My one tablet game added opt in for everything including their name in the rankings and its just annoying lol.

This "feature" will simply cause me to cover my skin collage with a simple outfit and use standard colors until I can disable this inspection. I often sit for a long time putting together suitable skins from head to toe, including suitable weapon skins and armor coloring additional time, BUT I DON'T do that so that anyone can just copy it. Both the armor and the weapons were designed by Arena-Net (apart from those from the weapon design competition), but there are countless combinations when you include the colors. So the combination of different armor skins, the colors I used for them and the matching weapons are MY CREATION! You're just acting like you have a right to spy on other players. This is just ridiculous! AND if someone e.g. is looking for a weapon skin -> there is a gallery in the wiki for EVERY weapon type, it takes a bit of time, but you'll find what you're looking for there!

It bother's me personally because im a very reserved guy. I value my comfort zone and it's borders a lot. Im fine telling someone what they'd like to know if they ask me. But this feature to me just feels like gettin stripped of my privacy without even asking me if im ok with it. You said yourself that an mmo is about interactions. My dude, people have eyes: they can SEE the armor you're wearing, you're acting like it's a violation of privacy for them to be able to view a nametag on an item in a video game. It's beyond absurd, and even though I agree that there are some amount of small interactions that might be taken away, you're acting like this is an issue of rights (please.) rather than an issue of sometimes people who will never talk to each other again will...well, never talk to each other, sans the one sentence they typed to communicate an armor set.
