I am fed up with the scammers on Ebay who know just how to game the system to extort money out of you. As such, I won't negotiate partial refunds, etc. any longer. If they complain about an item, I tell them to ship it back and I'll happily give them a full refund. Only one person has followed through and actually got off their butts to do so. Also, if they claim damage during shipping, I ask for photographs. If a fragile item is, in fact, broken, then they get a full refund instantly. I figure I make decent money on Ebay and this kind of stuff is an unfortunate cost of doing business. It is a pain, however.

I may have to adopt your policy because I get that from time to time as well. Do you include that in your listing?

A search of the ebay site for "no partial refunds" reveals apx 293,000 results, a lot of sellers are fed up as well it seems!

I simply advertise that I provide Ebay's no questions asked money back return policy. If I am contacted about an item damaged in shipping, I ask for photos of the item and the box and if it's legit, I refund their money.

I understand that returns is part of business but when you come across scammers it's just get frustrating. I've dealt with returns that was pleasant to deal with. Some customers just say they don't like it anymore and want to return it I'm cool with that hell I even give them the free postage for the return. When you get fishing scammers that's trying the get something for nothing that can get tiresome but like you said it's part of the trade business.

We had a scumbag who paid $45 for an old board game that wasn't in the best shape to begin with. We shipped it, all was well, and then we get a message saying that the game was in terrible shape and it was due to our bad packing job. I knew packed it very well, so I asked for photos and we never heard back from them. Dealing with buyers is the worst aspect of the EBay selling part. Always have photos of your items prior to shipping.

I just became a subscriber today to your channel I want to say, I've got a ton of respect for what you do. I used to buy and sell stuff with my dad when I was a teenager. We were going to the storage places all over the bay area in the early 80s. Was so much fun and we used to find just everything under the sun. My dad would get awesome stuff and we'd actually use a bunch of it in our house. This is a great way to make an honest living and it's really good to see someone just showing the trade. I really enjoy your videos. Thanks man.

Great video... Very well done. One thing to think about doing that I started doing was increase your prices from .95 to .99. Something you list at 49.95 is still going to sell for 49.99 plus add on the shipping of 12.99 versus 12.95. I know it doesn't sound like much but when you're selling 300 to 500 units a month... an extra 8 cents each unit adds up. At 300 to 500 units a month that's an extra $24 to $40 each month and up to $288 to $480 each year. That helps to pay your overhead... Lights, Internet, etc. Something to think about.

The Parker ink pen you were talking about is really cool to here about. My wife and I house sit for that family on a large saddle bred horse farm. We would stay there sometimes a month at a time. Lots of fun and many things to do. That doesn’t count all the great food and stocked bar. They had a killer pool with a built in hot tub. They had four wheelers to run around and search for Indian artifacts.Many stories about that farm.

I never knew how good vintage sewing machines did until I bought 5 at a auction. 3 were old singers one was a seamstress. The other had a odd name and was Japaneses. The one singer was foot powered in a desk. I paid $150 for everything not knowing anything about them. I was really happy when the first singer sold for $300 CAD GREAT VIDEO AS ALWAYS!!

2 months ago, I sold a $50 sony portable cd player. buyer complains that the lcd screen wasn't showing anything. I Know it worked before I shipped it and I shipped it very carefully. I talked with the buyer and we both agreed on a $20 partial refund since he didn't want to return it, and he leaves good feedback after that. He waits 2 months and he just did a Paypal chargeback on me for that item claiming he never authorized payment for it. What scumbags some people can be. Siigghh

Paypal seemed to return my funds for that purchase. However, they stated the investigation is still being reviewed by the buyers credit card company, so there's still a possibility they can take it back, well see. , sigghh

It goes over to the credit card company then. You have to prove to pp you sent it. Pp have to prove it was as far as they are aware a genuine transaction then the credit card company deal with it. I have only had about 4 over the years but i have never lost out. Good luck x

Love the video, very educational. Makes me wonder if I should do that instead of buying and selling toy cars on ebay. If someone extorts money from me on ebay, the only get to do it once. I block any complainers after the 1st time. I have less than 1000 sales on ebay and have been extorted at least a dozen times. It is almost always either electronics or women's items i.e. purses, shoes, that sort of thing. I will be looking for your videos. They are very helpful. Gotta go to bed now. " When I saw the Title of the Vid-I honestly busted out laughing-because I know you sell all quality items.!" LOL That mini boat motor was way too cool! Omgosh, I could kick my sister's butt-she was helping me clean out n bring to my moms all my belongings from a storage unit and my grandma gave me a huge box of Old Maps from all over the world. She traveled everywhere except Russia n another-super old maps n I just saw one from Japan sell for over $400 on eBay yesterday. Like I kick myself for letting her talk me into throwing box in dumpster. Everything was cool that you sold... Victoria Rocks- the pen actually sold higher for you-Congrats to you both. TFS! Keep the vids coming, Pete and stay cool-Peace!😀

I've had the "give me some money back" thing happen to me once. It made me mad, sorry to say, because it was a 14kt.gold ring with a real coral stone. He claimed the stone was plastic( I knew it wasn't, I purchased it from a retired jeweler I've known for years and trust ). When I told him to just ship it back to me and I would gladly refund his money, he told me "no", he would keep it. People don't realize how much work goes into selling on eBay and when they try to take advantage, it really upsets me. Glad you still made a profit, it sure sounds like he was trying to get something for nothing. So sad.....

Thanks so much for this video. I'm just looking into eBay selling, and really appreciate your telling about the average 50% overall profit, even after paying help. I think a net gain of $10,000 is amazing! I'm sure some months are leaner, some are fatter, but I'm only looking for a $2,000 profit a month, so I'm going to give it a shot.

Careful selling that medical stuff including the ice machine. I've sold several and then one time had a simple little donjoy ice machine get pulled by ebay and I missed the email. Listed another one and suffered a 7 day listing suspension. It is hit or miss, you can go into the completeds and solds and see hundreds of these listed or sold and a lot of sellers who you know aren't authorized to sell it. They spot check them. On the website for the game ready control unit it states "The Game Ready control unit is an FDA-regulated prescription medical device and should only be obtained from authorized sellers." Just watch your back or all that ebay money gets turned off.

I prevent scamming...one by requiring signature confirmation by an adult, second i put tamper free stickers...specially on high end items...and with a warning that if the stickers are removed no returns will accepted. Also..a note saying that if the item is returned the opening of the box will be recorded. I take time to describe all the features and issues of the item...so no issues will come later., many pictures and things showing lights, working, etc.

eBay used to be a lot of fun before this type of pro picker and eBay distributors showed up... I used to pick and sell on eBay, but I started all my auctions at $0.01 with shipping included. I got great prices, and let the bidders determine the value. No one does auctions anymore, it's all Buy It Now. Why not just go to Big Lots if you want some cheap Chinese-made crap? It's probably cheaper there, too.

Thanks Pete. Great video. I needed to hear you say you don't waste time on people who are fishing for money back - maybe due to buyer's remorse. I just got off the phone a couple of hours ago with eBay about a case that was opened against me and closed in a matter of minutes with the decision in the buyer's favor. This has never happened before, and now my Paypal is frozen, and I am very angry. I asked eBay to explain the 'Money Back Guarantee' and found that it is slanted in the favor of the buyer, not the seller. Furthermore, since the decision has already been made, there is nothing I can do in the appeals process to cover my losses. What a mess. Therefore, I have a question to everyone: Even though on every listing I make it clear that there are no returns, and encourage all potential buyers to ask me any and all questions before buying, what more can I do to protect myself against buyer's remorse, and just plain jerks? Help a girl out here, please.

Another great video Pete! I am a newbie and already have been approached by a "fisher" of sorts. Thank you so very much for the awesome information. Out here in California, the Goodwill Stores are holding back most of their valuable items (most likely to sell on their website) and it's getting a bit more challenging to find great things to sell. That doesn't stop me though, I will just get my items elsewhere. Keep up the great work and fantastic videos!

Let me teach you something about Singer sewing machines. The ones that are in demand are those models with all metal gears. Those are the ones that will sell. The Featherweight, I do believe my mother's old sewing machine was a featherweight. It's not for sale of course. I have bought three to four Singers with the slant needles, but not all of them are all metal gears. All of the Rocketeers are worth some money. I bought two models for around $100 and they were a superb value. They are worth more. Always look for the Rocketeers - always. If you are able, ask to see the inside of the machine and it should be obvious if they have all metal gears or not. All the Rocketeers are all metal. All sewing machines do not sell. Us ladies are smart in what we look for in sewing machines. Watch for Elna sewing machines as well. Look for metal gears on those too. I'm not sure if they started using plastic gears or not or when. I know the one we purchased new over 30 years ago is all metal and is a superb sewing machine. It cost $700 new.

I absolutely agree with you there Pete. Why waste time and ask him to ship it back. You sell tons of cool items and make good margin profit but for someone who makes pennies on dollar and deals with clothes such people could be costly. I had a return of shoes a woman bought from me with free shipping and a month later asked to return because the shoes "fell apart on her" turns out she stored them in trunk of her car for a month in Texas in 100+ temperature....the sole was rubber. So yeah maybe if you have listed huge volume of things it's ok to let it go, block and move on. Btw when you say "I made $80.00 profit" do you not calculate ebay/paypal fees? What about your time to post office/tear and wear on car finding garage sale, your time at garage sale/post office it's all time and time = money. Nevertheless great profit. Thanks for sharing.

The problem with doing this for a living i think is your money that you make is pretty much always tied up. You say you made about 10k profit for the month but how much of that 10k do you need to use for new product? And what were your operating costs for the store for that month like rent and utilities.
@jarrellidk
@jarrellidk 8 жыл бұрын
The store makes it's own money. (No I'm not "attacking you") But, to put things more into perspective: He buys items in the store and garage sells and ebay, etc. But he also SELLS in the store. So the store makes its own money and pays for itself, the money he makes from ebay is ebay. As for the question about buying need product, He said in his video, the profit he made AFTER fees, shipping, paying his employee, and the cost of the item itself was around 10,000+. Majority of the time, none of that 10,000 is going towards buying new inventory because the money that he made back from buying the original item that sold is most likely gonna go towards buying the new inventory. I hope that made sense, I know from experience and trying to word it was kinda difficult...And as for the cost of the store, well, idk lol.

Eddie you "skilled"-ness must not be math. If he generates $20k, he has two piles of $10k. Still with me. With one stack of $10k he buys new merchandise. The other stack of $10k he can but in his pocket and it stays there. Understand.

The biggest problem is the feedback system for ebay. If you could invisibly mark someone as a potential fisher/lier, then that would at least make it harder for them. I've had a guy go as far as to actually damage something I shipped him when I asked for photographs, even though I knew that theres no way that kind of damage would have happened in shipping (it was a crack in the side of a ps3). As it stands, there's nothing you can do. There's no way to prove that it's not your fault. Ebay should be way more cautious in enabling people like this though. Like I suggested, invisibly mark someone as a potential fisher (maybe there's already a way to do that? I don't think so), AND ebay needs to be more reluctant in general to give these people refunds. How often is someone going to waste time and money shipping something damaged or missing to someone? Almost never. So when you're constantly getting cases of people claiming damages or missing items, you need to trust the reputable seller more often. The feedback system is already broke.

Interesting and informative as always Pete. I understand where you are coming from with the guy who stiffed you a bit, However you might want to consider reporting this to eBay. I understand they do make a note of it, and if a pattern develops they will drop the guy from the platform. I know you are crazy busy, but it would help all of us if we communicate these things to eBay so they can have this information the next time the guy does this, and make no mistake about it, he will keep doing it until he is stopped.

Nice video, Pete. Did you end up blocking that buyer from your eBay sales after that?

That's what I do when there is a buyer who causes me grief. Dude got a great deal with a super working condition 8 track player. But he would NOT get a chance to screw me over again. Great point StivNagen!

Ebay needs to do a better job dealing with the scammers, both buyer's and sellers. I purchased a discharge tester from a Chinese seller and a capacitor on the board blew up and sent a fire ball across my living room. They offered to refund $3.00 for me to buy a new cap and replace it. I said no way, how do I know if that is the only issue. I asked for a new one and after a while got a working unit. Another seller sold me a headphone amp kit that never worked and when I told them that they called me a liar and a scammer. I wasn't scamming them, it didn't work at all and they didn't want to refund my money. Go figure, on the flip side I sold a photo printer that I knew worked perfectly and it was in mint condition. The buyer said it had been opened up and was missing parts. Nope, it had never been opened. Had to give a refund even though I knew it wasn't like that. Latter he was selling one of those printers. Really, he already had one. I think he used parts out of mine or he sent me his broken one for a refund either way now I use tamper stickers. I am very honest when selling and buying, but I have found there are a lot of scammers out there and I hate to give in to it.

Selling on Ebay to me is a waste of time. Think about it. We all sell on there due to the traffic. Anyone ever heard of FB? Its local and no fees, ( at least for Now ). And another thing he made 20k well don't get me wrong that's incredible but is that 20k net or gross?Then how much did you invest to get to that number? I'd hate to see his ebay fees each month. It cost to be the boss.

Hey Pete is is a question I have say you are at the Garage sale and see something that looks important like that tool you picked up how do you know it is worth picking up? Do you just use your phone and search for what it could be before offering an amount? Just curious. Thanks for the Great videos and any feed back is appreciated. :)

Hey Pete, you have a gold mind with Victoria, I think she needs a raise.... a regular employee would have just listed the parker pen for what you said, she made you an extra $100 in the same day. Treasure her because its hard to find good help.
