As others have pointed out, Tony Curtis in the guise of “Junior” is doing a wicked impersonation of Hollywood superstar Cary Grant, explicitly mocking his accent. This movie played a key role in ending the Hays Code, and greatly increasing the kind of content movies were able to show. Its use of LGBT themes well beyond what movies had typically done before (this kind of content was part of movies from the beginning, but up until 1959 it tended to not go further than quick jokes based on campy behavior, like the bit with Cary Grant in a nightgown from Bringing Up Baby) forced it to be made without the Code's approval, and the success it had despite that was a big sign that any purpose the Code had ever served had been outgrown.

Tony Curtis was the husband of Janet Leigh and the father of Jamie Lee Curtis. You've also heard his voice in Rosemary's Baby, as the actor who was blinded. The two musicians went to pick up the car at the Clark Street Garage just in time to witness the St Valentine's Day massacre, a famous gangland multiple-murder during Prohibition. 'Daphne''s dirty old man is played by famous comedian Joe E Brown. There's a 2004 film called "Connie and Carla" that is somewhat similar to "Some Like It Hot": they witness a murder & hide out as 'drag queens' in a small drag club. Hello Sam, I really like that you've watched and reacted to this movie. 😊 This movie is so amazing and way ahead of its time. What a great story, actually quite simple, but excellently realized and as always with Billy Wilder with a good portion of social criticism. The dialogues are just great, the acting especially of Tony Curtis and Jack Lemmon are great and the ending with the sentence "Well, nobody is perfect" (which only became a figure of speech through this film!) couldn't be better. 😉 You have to remember that the film is from 1959 and not 2019 and there was a lot of controversy about the film at the time, but the overwhelming success with audiences finally silenced the prudish, uptight opponents of the film. After all, the film grossed nearly 10 times its production costs in the US alone. I think all the other fun facts have been told, e.g. that Tony Curtis wanted to act like Cary Grant and then they were both starring 'Operation Peticoat', one of my all time favorites and if you want to watch a great comedy, I can only recommend this movie. 😄 Btw, a thematically similar comedy movie, but with a completely different story is Victor/Victoria, very underrated, but really excellent.

The big joke with Joe's oil tycoon character is that his voice is an impression of Cary Grant. Gerald saying "Nobody talks like that" is a reference to how Grant's career hadn't yet started in 1929, but when this film came out in 1959 everyone would instantly recognize it (you might recall that North by Northwest was released the same year). And now it's amusingly evolved into a whole new joke, as Grant's famous "Transatlantic" accent fell sharply out of use after the '50s, and now people will probably just nod along with the line that nobody talks like that.

The movie was originally to be shot in color but was shot in B&W because it was easier to do the makeup on "The Girls". I don't see any reason for this movie to be remade, I don't think anything could be done better.

I agree with that! I only said that because we live in a world where remakes are so apparent, that if they were gonna remake it, they really need to get the right actors I would rathe they DIDNT remake it but yeah

It was because of 5 o'clock shadow on the men. Black and white hid the whisker growth better.

The olde..jello on springs🙂. Always thought the final line is the funniest last line in a movie.

Not sure if anyone has mentioned this but in case you didn’t know Tony Curtis is Jamie Lee Curtis’s father. I did see someone mention Operation Petticoat and that’s a great one I think you might enjoy that one

LOVE this movie! I get the feeling that the Wayans Brothers got part of their inspiration for White Chicks from this film.

George Raft (Spatts) was one of the original 30's movie gangsters, he invented the coin tossing bit.

I knew you'd enjoy this lol. It's just a fun classic for sure. I grew up watching quite a few classic movies on Tv, once cable came along it widened even more because both TBS and TNT would have them on pretty often, which was so great. Anyways, both Jack Lemmon and Tony Curtis were a fun duo. And I saw where some others mentioned about who Jamie Lee Curtis' parents were. 🎥🎬🎶🎶

The exterior scenes of this film were shot in San Diego, not Florida. BTW, the white shoe attachments were called "spats".

Tom Hanks first rose to fame in an early 80s sitcom called "Bosom Buddies" which borrowed HEAVILY from this movie. Rather than hiding from mobsters in an all-girl band, he and his "buddy" disguised themselves as "Buffy & Hildegard" in order to get rooms in a women-only hotel which happened to be the only place in the area they could afford. As with Some like it hot, they also appeared as their male selves with Hanks' character having a crush on Donna Dixon, a blonde hottie type hotel resident who basically filled Marilyn Monroe's shoes on the show. As you might expect the jokes were mostly about almost being found out. It was not a great show but it did last a couple seasons and launch Tom Hanks' career.

I enjoyed your reaction! While this isn't my favorite Marilyn film, its still such a classic. My favorites are Gentleman Prefer Blondes, Seven Year Itch & How to Marry a Millionaire with the AMAZING Lauren Bacall 🙏

Hi O. G. Bojangles, " Termites! " About a remake, I hope all remakers have a coronary. These are the right actors. They will always be the right actors. " Josephine isJamie Leigh Curtis' Dad, and husband to " Bates Motel's Janet Leigh. Those two can be seen in the movie " Who Was That Lady? ". Also, did you notice the Cary Grant impersonation? " Hey! " d:)

I guess this was your first Billy Wilder movie. He's one of the all-time great directors/screenwriters. His other movies include Double Indemnity, The Lost Weekend, Sunset Blvd., The Seven Year Itch, Witness for the Prosecution, The Apartment, Irma la Douce, and The Fortune Cookie. You can't go wrong by watching any of them. I'd love for you to react to The Apartment. The bit about Shell Oil actually has a basis in fact. The father of the founder of Shell Oil made his living selling seashells, and the son named the company after his father's occupation. Tony Curtis hated working with Marilyn Monroe. She was very difficult, showing up late, getting upset and locking herself in her trailer, forgetting her lines. . . It didn't help that she was trying to shed the ditzy blonde image that Sugar was the epitome of. Curtis once said that kissing her was like kissing Hitler. Billy Wilder also grew exasperated with her, and didn't invite her to the wrap party. None of this comes across on film, though.

Billy Wilder is one of the best ever. I'd also check out Sunset Boulevard and The Apartment, the latter of which won Best Picture.

If you ever feel like watching another Tony Curtis movie, "Sweet Smell of Success" is a masterpiece. The dialogue is amazing. I will warn that it is a very dark, cynical movie, and the opposite of this one. Also, keep watching Billy Wilder movies, they are great, whether comedy or drama.
