The difference between Zam and Latios is Zam gets much faster, which is why it is good. You could run a Scarf Zam, but it will be objectively worse than Scarf Lele. Mega-Zam gets to be fast and strong, which regular Zam does not get. Also, Mega-Zam can abuse certain abilities like Regenerator, which regular Zam can also not do.

Mega Latias and Latios are same speed and less damage output than their Life orb or Choice specs sets while being way slower than them on Choice scarf sets or less defensive than Assault Vest/Leftovers counterparts while from the 100 extra stats points 40 are for physical attack, 30 on special attack that is less than a 20% increase in damage, no extra speed and only 30 points of extra Bulk distributed on the other 3 different stats that is almost insignificant or even less than their counterparts on Special defense if we count Assault Vest sets without a change on speed. The only true advantage of Mega Latibros over normal Latibros is literally that they can use a 135 base physical attack uninvested Earthquake for Steel types that isn't even a common move on Megalatibros sets

Mega Alakazam is a LOT better than its regular form. The extra speed is pretty huge actually for getting the jump on stuff like Mega Lopunny or the Greninja forms. But the key kicker is Trace. It’s such a powerful ability when given to a Pokémon that can use it to set up, and it allows Alakazam a lot of versatile opportunities, either beating rain offense at its own game by tracing Swift Swim, healing off damage by coming in and forcing walls like Toxapex out and tracing Regenerator, setting up on Heatran by grabbing its Flash Fire, or taking Beast Boost/Soul Heart from Kartana/Magearna to set up a sweep. It’s an incredible tool on any offensive team that can immediately turn the tables and become a wincon, the thing is downright elite. Regular Zam, on the other hand, might be strong, but it lacks the ability to completely warp a game on its head by turning a switch-in into a game-breaking moment, despite the slightly higher power it has with Life Orb/Magic Guard.

Manectric is a weak Pokémon unfortunately but its Mega form is SO GOOD, it literally skyrockets Manectric up three whole tiers in both game in which it appears. A nudge of extra def and spd and a huge +30 in both Spe and SpAtk and changes Manectric's pointless abilities into Intimidate, like...sign me up everyday for it: this guy gave me so much satisfaction in Gen6 OU, I would use it everywhere. There is no way to elaborate against MegaManectric, it's actually quite possibly one of the best Megas when it comes to how much it buffs its Pokémon. Mega-Swampert...really just check any Rain team from Gen6/7 and tell me who is their Mega, I'll be waiting. Mega Audino is the only one a case can be made for because it loses Regenerator and yadda yadda yadda but...really Audino is kind of bad anyway. But hey, its Mega looks magnificent at least.

Mmm.. I think Alakazam's is good, and also Trace has some powerful implications too, like against Mega Swampert, taking that Swift Swim in the rain for example. Garchomp's is a clear downgrade in many situations though... I would say Abomasnow's isn't particularly great when the speed adjustments hit. Audino and Glalie aren't particularly great (partly due to the original forms being weak in the first place)

Nah, Mega Alakazam’s speed buff makes it fantastic. And trace is a way better ability than you’re giving it credit for. You can copy flash Fire and Water absorb and stuff and switch in safely, even restore health with the latter. Best of all, it can copy Regenerator and heal 1/3 HP when you switch out, allowing it to eventually break through stall with Psyshock

Alakazam's mega is horribly undervalued here. Being able to outspeed many scarfers without locking yourself into one move is GODLY, while Trace offers many switch in opportunities that Magic Guard doesn't (Heatran's Magma Storm being a great example), with Encore forcing the switch as you set up CM for the power. This isn't even a case of a Mon being a low tier warrior like Skuntank, I'm talking about being oppressive in OU. As for other megas like MLatios and MGarchomp, they get value in playing a different niche to their base forms. Mega Latios has value as a Dragon Dancer that can punish special walls for coming in, without being worn down through LOrb recoil. Meanwhile, Mega Garchomp in sand with SD is an unparalleled wallbreaker that will ruin ANYTHING that tries to take it on defensively. These megas are hard to say are worse, since their jobs are just completely different. Niche doesn't equate to bad - which is why Mega Sableye got banned at the end of Gen 6

Should've replaced MegaZam with MegaSlowbro. Mega Alakazam gets an unfair amount of mileage out of the speed it gets from MegaEvolving and giving up magic guards does not hurt nearly as much as giving up on that much Speed. On the other hand, MegaSlowbro gets a massive Def bump and a great SpA increase but loses Regenerator which is basically vital if it wishes to function as a pivot (AKA Slowbro's favourite role), not to mention that functionally Shell Armor is pointless as an ability.

The jump in speed with mega zam is pretty notable here. Even small increases can have huge implications. While yes a life orb boost is a bigger increase sp atk wise and no drawbacks from magic guard it's not like the sp atk increase from mega is weak. Trace is far from being a bad ability even if magic guard is generally better. In gen 7 mega alakazam was ou being one if the best megas in the tier while regular was uubl. If you start counting Nat dex then mega zam was banned because of nasty plot.

Mega Blaziken is clearly better than base, the base speed is very important and you also hit harder than base Blaziken without having to kill yourself faster because of Life Orb + Recoil

The issue isn't Garchomp is slower, it is that it falls below base 100 speed. That's a huge benchmark. Even losing three points, down to 99, would have killed M.Chomp. He has an insane attack increase, and Sand Force (when in sand) boosts EQ to stupid levels. However, Sand Force is niche, and giving up on Rough Skin + a different useful item (Rockey Helmet, lefties, Scarf, a berry, etc), you end up with the only mega on Smogon to consistently be ranked in the same tier as it's base form by technicality, not usage.

Bruh, Mega-Alakazam went to Ubers in National Dex for a reason. 150 Speed is what makes it way better than Life Orb or Focus Sash Alakazam. It outspeeds almost everything

Of the three listed, Latios does sometimes use EQ, as a ground move and a physical move. The latter not only helps break Blissey, but also can be used with no penalty after Draco Meteor. It would prefer that additional speed more, but it does use it on occasion. The bulk from the mega form also helps defensive CM + Roost sets Likewise Alakazam loves the speed boost. Base Alakazam can scarf, but then it is weaker and can only use one move. Trace also has a few matchups that are super useful, like intimidating Lando-T, or getting Heatran's flash fire Both of them, it isn't an absolute game changer bonus, but they are not downgrades; merely side grades at worst. The assessment that you're better off with other megas is *probably* true in most cases, but it's dependent on other stuff. Garchomp meanwhile... Loses access to two great defensive abilities for a niche offensive one, gets extra attack it doesn't need, drops below 100 speed... That one is a downgrade. To be fair, if it lost 10 in any other stat to keep it's old speed of 102, that would have been banned to Ubers, again.

That's what people thought at the beginning of gen 6. Look up some usage stats and you'll realize, mega Zam is a legit threat, mega latios has a niche with EQ/sometimes even DD, and mega chomp is viable.

MKazam gets a boost that compares to the Life Orb boost, while getting a huge speed boost. His def boost seems useless but it's actually a 30% upgrade of his def stat. Also Trace allows to steal Intimidate, Regenerator, Natural Cure... Regular Kazam can do things, but MKazam has way more going his way...

Latios actually becomes able to use a mixed set with EQ on mega. Its very deadly because midhigh ladder and below players don’t expect mixed sets basically ever, when they’re actually not bad on a lot of mons.

In the case of Latios, the Mega form actually has some very valuable niches: 1- You can use Earthquake, which is genuinely valuable for Heatran who usually stonewalls any Latios and can usually shrug off one Surf while doing something like exploding or poisoning Latios 2- Because of how mega stones work, you take the 65 base power version of Knock Off instead of the Base 97.5 power version of it when it knocks off an item. I agree with Garchomp tho, the loss in speed is not great, and it would actually be interchangable with the base form if Scale Shot arrived earlier because of Mega Garchomp's better potency at being a mixed attacker

back in gen 6 i loved running an annoying-ass sableye with prankster will-o-wisp, confuse ray, substitute, recover. when oras came out and mega sableye became a thing, i wanted to use it, but losing prankster was a huge drawback, even if magic bounce is also very good

Mega tyranitar is generally viewed as a side grade to base tyranitar, because it’s stats are much better the opportunity cost to tyranitar was never considered very high but in the mega form it’s is very high, while also being markably less versatile

Mega Garchomp should’ve gotten Sand Rush to compensate for its lower speed. Hell, if its speed stat wasn’t even touched and all the stat buffs went more to its Sp. Def or its already high Attack, it would’ve easily been one of OU’s best. Such a shame the only way you can somewhat alleviate the speed problem is Tailwind/Trickroom in Doubles, or a risky SD+Scale Shot in Singles. Alright, let’s say the Speed Drop was necessary. I would’ve just shaved off 2 points of speed to make it at least tie with Base 100s. I even like its design too so it’s a shame how disrespectful its stat distribution is.

For Latios (and Latias) it may be better to use the soul dew instead in gen 6. From its introduction in gen 3 to its rework in gen 7, the soul dew gives a 1.5x buff to Latios/Latias’ special stats, which is even better than the buffs from mega evolution. Problem is, the soul dew was banned before its rework, and after its rework it’s no longer as powerful. Now it gives a 20% boost to Latios/Latias’ STAB moves.

About mega garchomp, I think the reason he is slower that the regular form is because if you look at his hands there are no fins anymore which would make sense why he is slower.
