Here's a reminder for new writers that you don't need to pay for any software to start writing- you can literally just use google docs and a few folders and it'll be just fine. ya just gotta know what you're doing (aka the hardest part)

If you really do want a “software” Reedsy is really fun. You don’t have to pay for it, and once you export it, it’s already in format for you, and it also includes a copyright page! You can make chapters, parts, and even prologues/epilogues. It’s really fun to play with and it even tracks how many words you write as well as delete. (You can even set up a finish goal) all for free! Edit: it also isn’t a software at all, and is a online website. So you don’t have to download anything if you don’t want to.

This comment is really useful since I’m just getting into Writing and I’m thinking of publishing my first book :D ( even if I was born in 2010 and am still in Middle school, can middle schoolers be authors? )

@@luvvx_dj Of course! You may not publish at that time but it's always good to start whenever you want to. I started my novel in sohpmore/junior(?) year of HS and just before I graduated I finally finished the book. Obviously it's still a first draft, still revising some of the stuff, but I'm really proud of myself for accomplishing that.

The book I'm working on I've had in my head for eight years, and I just now feel like it's finally at the point where I'm ready to write it. Not saying it will always take that long, or that it can't be done in a few months, just that no matter how long it takes you, remember it's worth it and you're the only person who can tell that story! 😊

In elementary school in my gifted pullout class (for the students with high iq, to put it in a few words) we all had to do projects of our choosing. You could research a topic, build something, etc, and then you would present it to the class. Most kids went through 4+ projects a year but I only ever did three projects in the two years I was in that program before I moved to middle school. One of my projects was writing a book. I’ve read it again recently and it was a good 60 pages long, but considering I was 10 or something at the time, it was ridiculously impressive. That project took me the whole year of gifted pullout plus working on it in every second I had of free time. I’d have a heck of a time trying to publish it though because it’s too advanced for a younger audience, but I doubt a middle school/high schooler would be interested in a ‘girl moves away from the city to a ranch, hates horses but then loves them’.

It's been a long journey and I don't plan on giving up on it. My point of this message to other writers is never to give up on somthing you love. It is okay if your work changes. It's worth it if you love it ❤

Here's a tip that I use: I make relationship charts and character sheets. They help a lot when I'm writing. Whenever I'm stuck on how a character would react to certain information, looking at the character sheets and relationship charts help out a lot! I actually got this idea from me being a Dungeon Master in a Dungeons and Dragons game I played with my family, saves a lot of time, you can always change it, and it helps a lot!!

I’ve noticed how hard it is to write one the notes app, and I also noticed how school would be easier if I had a laptop or computer. My parents agreed, and now we’re just waited for my dad to get paid for moving. Hey! Great questions. It sounds like you have some solid ideas for a book, but want help getting from point A to point B. Remember, the story is all in your head till you put it on paper, and your readers only know what you tell them. Build your world: What's in the world? What's the time period? How's it different from our world? Whose in charge? What's the law like? You want every single detail written down, then select what is necessary to the story and write that in as your character perceives it. Character building: What's their name? How old are they? What's their family like? How do these events make your character mature or grow? What's their view? Favorite food? Likes an dislikes? What do they look like? Do they have friends? A love interest? What's their goal? What's their skill set and how do you want to develop it? Finally the plot, outline your events. What order they go in and remember that evey scene and every detail points to something greater. Finally, give your readers what they want, but give it in an unexpected way. Know your end game and make every scene lead up to that and give your readers a way to personally connect with the character to make for an epic emotional journey. Finally, have your friends read your story back to you, outloud as written. Let them ask questions, maybe you need more info, maybe there's there's much and remember, you will probably rewrite most of your first draft and that's ok. That's how writing works and that's that's makes a good book. I hope this helps!!!!

i would suggest continuing to write for a while, because it improves your skills profoundly! it takes a lot of patience, but if you keep practicing, you’ll be even better than you are right now and it’ll allow for your writing style and skills to improve and grow. (when i compare my writing from when i was twelve to now, there’s a HUGE difference and just as big an improvement.) also, publishing comes with a lot of work that you might be too young for at the moment, so it would be better to focus on your writing in the meantime!

@@Charlie_IsHereee even thought you should have an editor, if you can’t have one here’s some tips: Re-read the book 1-2 times by yourself and edit it. Then Get someone else (a friend of family member) to read the book and tell you parts that have errors or are hard to understand. Use Ai to help with editing parts (e.g “write this as if it was in a novel.”) but only use some ideas and parts that match up. You will need to re-read and edit your first draft A LOT. For publishing, there are lots of self publishing platforms. The most popular and easier one is Amazon where you can publish and sell for free. For writing a lot of words, have a goal (like 41k words) even if you think you’ll never reach it (if you have a high goal and don’t reach it, you might still have like 25k+ words) Read A LOT!! I hope your journey goes perfect and smoothly
