Great idea. He needs to reshape his reputation as a down to earth and his encyclopaedia football knowledge for him to have any chance he becomes a coach again

With Belichick’s reputation obviously most GM would feel uncomfortable working with him, there is no need for a genius like Florio to point it out.

I love how you guys think you know the future. No one knows how things are going to work out. If Bill did not make a lucky sixth round pick over two decades ago Bill would have been gone many years ago. Hit on a QB and all is possible, it not your the Jets for decades . I very much doubt Bill will ever be a head coach again. If he does coach he will not be picking the groceries again. Teams have seen Bills four year rebuild in NE and it’s an utter disgrace.
@Tsepete4 ай бұрын
You're just a hater regurgitating media talking points "lucky pick". Please. The draft is all luck. Good luck and bad luck. No one really knows who or what they are getting until multiple seasons later.
@mtadams20094 ай бұрын
@@Tsepete Yes but acting like Bill actually had a clue about Tom when he picked him in the 6th round is luck. I guess you could call Harry, Mac, Sony and Strange in the first round bad luck. I like Bill the coach but Bill the GM not so much especially on the offensive side of the ball.
@mikeadams42304 ай бұрын
He’s a great defensive coordinator. Bill was a shitty head coach before Brady and exposed as a shitty head coach/player personnel guy post Brady. Having the greatest QB to ever play run your offense fixed a lot of things.
@Tsepete4 ай бұрын
@@mikeadams4230 A head coach needs elite players to win championships. In every team sport. Once he gets those players, he becomes great when he surronds his top player or players with well rounded teams every year for a long time. Andy Reid is the current example of that. He wouldn't have 3 rings without Mahomes and would not have had success in the past without the McNabbs and Alex Smiths who were both solid QBs. When Bill had elite players, he won Superbowls, as DC and as Head Coach. I checked the 5 Cleveland teams and could not find a single Hall of Famer. Now look back and tell me which coach won consistently without elite players. You won't find one. Bill said it over and over again, it's a players game. They can play without coaches, but coaches can not coach without players. This is why the "without Brady" arguement is silly.

Hell a lot of owners would probably be a bit nervous around Bill.

"All models are wrong, but some are useful" applies to analytics in sports like anything else. Blindly following a percentage model based on an average of all NFL teams and games is as foolish as blindly ignoring that model. A head coach should treat analytics as just another piece of information to consider when making a judgement call in a game.

Going for it on 4th 3 at your own 48 is much different if you have the Detroit Lions offense relative to almost any other offense in the NFL. Campbell knows he has the best offense in the NFL....end of story!

Broad historical averages based on misspecified models with incomplete and unreliable data should never be used to make situation specific decisions. In other words, 4th and 1 against the mid-70s Steelers, 1985 Bears, or 2000 Raven defenses is not representive of the "statistical average".

@tjk92634 ай бұрын
Dan Campbell coached like that all season. If he would have taken a step back and realized that the way Detroits defense was playing, there was no way that Brock Purdy was going to lead 3 scoring drives in 21 minutes.
@peterladetto7084 ай бұрын
@@tjk9263 You're acting as if the Coach mates those decisions. They do not. Vegas makes these decisions based upon how they can shave points or bait people into live betting losses. The NFL isn't, and never was genuine competition. The original owners of the first trans in the NFL were all heavily involved with illegal gambling and horse racing. The NFL was created to be a money maker for their gambling industry. There only way then to guarantee an attractive narrative and keep the score in favor of Vegas, and that is to play pretend football abd decide ahead of time who wins.

Let's face it Bill became a cranky, nasty old bastard after Brady and Kraft made him get rid of Jimmy G. I think he came to the realization that Tom was the one player that didn't support Bill's narrative that you get rid of someone before they are toast. Tom played til he was 45 and probably could have played a few more years.
